Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 11 Continues
யேசாऽஸ்ய ஸசிவா: கேசித்
ஸம்ஸ்ரிதா மாமகம் வநம் ॥
ந ச தைரிஹ வஸ்தவ்யம்
ஸ்ருத்வா யாந்து யதாஸுகம் ।
yēcā'sya sacivāḥ kēcit
saṃṡritā māmakaṃ vanam ॥
na ca tairiha vastavyam
ṡrutvā yāntu yathāsukham ।
May all his aides who made this their abode
and roam around in my Vana leave, for their own good,
in deference to my words!
தேऽபீ வா யதி திஷ்டந்தி
ஸபிஷ்யே தாநபி த்ருவம் ॥
வநேऽஸ்மிந்மாமகே நித்யம்
புத்ரவத்பரிரக்ஷிதே ।
பத்ராங்குரவிநாஸாய
பலமூலாபவாய ச ॥
tē'pī vā yadi tiṣṭhanti
ṡapiṣyē tānapi dhruvam ॥
vanē'sminmāmakē nityam
putravatparirakṣitē ।
patrāṅkuravināṡāya
phalamūlābhavāya ca ॥
If they stay in this Vana,
which I guard as if it were my own son,
destroying the sprouts and leaves
and denuding it of fruits and roots,
I shall certainly deliver a curse on them too.
திவஸஸ்சாஸ்ய மர்யாதா
யம் த்ரஷ்டா ஸ்வோऽஸ்மி வாநரம் ।
பஹுவர்ஷஸஹஸ்ராணி
ஸ வை ஸைலோ பவிஷ்யதி ॥
divasaṡcāsya maryādā
yaṃ draṣṭā ṡvō'smi vānaram ।
bahuvarṣasahasrāṇi
sa vai ṡailō bhaviṣyati ॥
They have a day (to leave).
If I see any of them tomorrow in this Vana
they will turn into stones and
remain so for many thousands of years.
ததஸ்தே வாநராஸ்ஸ்ருத்வா
கிரம் முநிஸமீரிதாம் ।
நிஸ்சக்ரமுர்வநாத்தஸ்மாத்
தாந்த்ருஷ்ட்வா வாலிரப்ரவீத் ॥
tatastē vānarāṡṡrutvā
giraṃ munisamīritām ।
niṡcakramurvanāttasmāt
tāndṛṣṭvā vālirabravīt ॥
Then, those Vānaras,
hearing the words pronounced by the Muni
left the Vana; seeing them, Vāli said:
கிம் பவந்தஸ்ஸமஸ்தாஸ்ச
மதங்கவநவாஸிந: ।
மத்ஸமீபமநுப்ராப்தா
அபி ஸ்வஸ்தி வநௌகஸாம் ॥
kiṃ bhavantassamastāṡca
mataṅgavanavāsinaḥ ।
matsamīpamanuprāptā
api svasti vanaukasām ॥
Why have all of you, who live
in the Vana of Mataṅga, come here to me?
I hope all is well for the dwellers of the Vana!
ததஸ்தே காரணம் ஸர்வம்
ததா ஸாபம் ச வாலிந: ।
ஸஸம்ஸுர்வாநராஸ்ஸர்வே
வாலிநே ஹேமமாலிநே ॥
tatastē kāraṇaṃ sarvam
tadā ṡāpaṃ ca vālinaḥ ।
ṡaṡaṃsurvānarāssarvē
vālinē hēmamālinē ॥
Then all those Vānaras told
Vāli, who wore a golden chain,
the reason and the curse laid on Vāli.
ஏதச்ச்ருத்வா ததா வாலீ
வசநம் வாநரேரிதம் ।
ஸ மஹர்ஷிம்ததாऽஸாத்ய
யாசதே ஸ்ம க்ருதாஞ்ஜலி: ॥
ētacchrutvā tadā vālī
vacanaṃ vānarēritam ।
sa maharṣiṃtadā'sādya
yācatē sma kṛtāñjaliḥ ॥
Hearing those words mentioned by the Vānaras,
Vāli went to the Maharshi and
and begged him (for forgiveness)
with palms joined in reverence.
மஹர்ஷிஸ்தமநாத்ருத்ய
ப்ரவிவேஸாஸ்ரமம் ததா ।
ஸாபதாரணபீதஸ்து
வாலீ விஹ்வலதாம் கத: ॥
maharṣistamanādṛtya
pravivēṡāṡramaṃ tadā ।
ṡāpadhāraṇabhītastu
vālī vihvalatāṃ gataḥ ॥
The Maharshi ignored them and went into his Āṡrama.
Vāli, with a curse on him, started shaking.
ததஸ்ஸாபபயாத்பீத
ருஸ்யமூகம் மஹாகிரிம் ।
ப்ரவேஷ்டும் நேச்சதி ஹரி:
த்ரஷ்டும் வாபி நரேஸ்வர ॥
tataṡṡāpabhayādbhīta
ṛṡyamūkaṃ mahāgirim ।
pravēṣṭuṃ nēcchati hariḥ
draṣṭuṃ vāpi narēṡvara ॥
O lord of people! Since then,
afraid of the dreadful curse,
that Vānara never tried to
enter the great Ṛshyamūka mountain,
nor even cast an eye on it.
தஸ்யாऽப்ரவேஸம் ஜ்ஞாத்வாऽஹம்
இதம் ராம மஹாவநம் ।
விசராமி ஸஹாமாத்யோ
விஷாதேந விவர்ஜித: ॥
tasyā'pravēṡaṃ jñātvā'ham
idaṃ rāma mahāvanam ।
vicarāmi sahāmātyō
viṣādēna vivarjitaḥ ॥
Knowing that he will not enter this great Vana,
I move about here, free from worry, along with my aides.
ஏஷோऽஸ்திநிசயஸ்தஸ்ய
துந்துபேஸ்ஸம்ப்ரகாஸதே ।
வீர்யோத்ஸேகாந்நிரஸ்தஸ்ய
கிரிகூடோபமோ மஹாந் ॥
ēṣō'sthinicayastasya
dundubhēssamprakāṡatē ।
vīryōtsēkānnirastasya
girikūṭōpamō mahān ॥
This is the huge imposing skeleton,
which resembles a mountain crest,
of Dundhubhi that was thrown
with all the force and prowess.
இமே ச விபுலாஸ்ஸாலா:
ஸப்த ஸாகாவலம்பிந: ।
யத்ரைகம் கடதே வாலீ
நிஷ்பத்ரயிதுமோஜஸா ॥
imē ca vipulāssālāḥ
sapta ṡākhāvalambinaḥ ।
yatraikaṃ ghaṭatē vālī
niṣpatrayitumōjasā ॥
Here are seven Sāla trees of
immense girth with great overhanging boughs.
Vāli, taking one of these trees at a time,
would denude it of its leaves,
shaking it with all his strength.
ஏததஸ்யாஸமம் வீர்யம்
மயா ராம ப்ரகீர்திதம் ।
கதம் தம் வாலிநம் ஹந்தும்
ஸமரே ஸக்ஷ்யஸே ந்ருப ॥
ētadasyāsamaṃ vīryam
mayā rāma prakīrtitam ।
kathaṃ taṃ vālinaṃ hantum
samarē ṡakṣyasē nṛpa ॥
O Rāma! This is his unequalled prowess, that I just sang about.
O King! Tell me how you will be able to kill Vali in a fight?
ததா ப்ருவாணம் ஸுக்ரீவம்
ப்ரஹஸந் லக்ஷ்மணோऽப்ரவீத் ।
கஸ்மிந்கர்மணி நிர்வ்ருத்தே
ஸ்ரத்தத்யா வாலிநோ வதம் ॥
tathā bruvāṇaṃ sugrīvam
prahasan lakṣmaṇō'bravīt ।
kasminkarmaṇi nirvṛttē
ṡraddadhyā vālinō vadham ॥
When Sugreeva asked thus, Lakshmaṇa with a smile said:
What deed will make you convince that Vāli can be killed?
தமுவாசாத ஸுக்ரீவ:
ஸப்த ஸாலாநிமாந்புரா ।
ஏவமேகைகஸோ வாலீ
விவ்யாதாத ஸ சாஸக்ருத் ॥
tamuvācātha sugrīvaḥ
sapta sālānimānpurā ।
ēvamēkaikaṡō vālī
vivyāthātha sa cāsakṛt ॥
Then Sugreeva said to him:
‘Vāli, many a time, used to
shake these seven Sāla trees one by one’.
ராமோ நிர்தாரயேதேஷாம்
பாணேநைகேந ச த்ருமம் ।
வாலிநம் நிஹதம் மந்யே
த்ருஷ்ட்வா ராமஸ்ய விக்ரமம் ।
ஹதஸ்ய மஹிஷஸ்யாஸ்தி
பாதேநைகேந லக்ஷ்மண ।
உத்யம்யாத ப்ரக்ஷிபேச்சேத்
தரஸா த்வே தநுஸ்ஸதே ॥
rāmō nirdārayēdēṣām
bāṇēnaikēna ca drumam ।
vālinaṃ nihataṃ manyē
dṛṣṭvā rāmasya vikramam ।
hatasya mahiṣasyāsthi
pādēnaikēna lakṣmaṇa ।
udyamyātha prakṣipēccēt
tarasā dvē dhanuṡṡatē ॥
O Lakshmaṇa! If I can see the prowess of Rāma
demonstrated by his tearing apart of one of these
trees with a single arrow,
I will consider Vāli as slain;
or if he can throw this skeleton of the dead buffalo
by the force of a single kick now
to a distance of one hundred bows.
ஏவமுக்த்வா து ஸுக்ரீவோ
ராமம் ரக்தாந்தலோசநம் ।
த்யாத்வா முஹூர்தம் காகுத்ஸ்தம்
புநரேவ வசோऽப்ரவீத் ॥
ēvamuktvā tu sugrīvō
rāmaṃ raktāntalōcanam ।
dhyātvā muhūrtaṃ kākutstham
punarēva vacō'bravīt ॥
Sugreeva, saying this to Rāma whose eyes were blood-red,
thought for a Muhūrta and then said to Kākutstha again:
ஸூரஸ்ச ஸூரகாதீ ச
ப்ரக்யாதபலபௌருஷ: ।
பலவாந்வாநரோ வாலீ
ஸம்யுகேஷ்வபராஜித: ॥
ṡūraṡca ṡūraghātī ca
prakhyātabalapauruṣaḥ ।
balavānvānarō vālī
saṃyugēṣvaparājitaḥ ॥
He is a man of valor and has killed many men of valor.
he is celebrated for his strength and heroism;
he has never known defeat in battle.
த்ருஸ்யந்தே சாஸ்ய கர்மாணி
துஷ்கராணி ஸுரைரபி ।
யாநி ஸஞ்சிந்த்ய பீதோऽஹம்
ருஸ்யமூகம் ஸமாஸ்ரித: ॥
dṛṡyantē cāsya karmāṇi
duṣkarāṇi surairapi ।
yāni sañcintya bhītō'ham
ṛṡyamūkaṃ samāṡritaḥ ॥
His exploits, which would be
out of reach even for the Suras, are very evident;
and I have taken refuge in Ṛshyamūka,
because the very thought of them grips me with fear.
தமஜய்யமத்ருஷ்யம் ச
வாநரேந்த்ரமமர்ஷணம் ।
விசிந்தயந்ந முஞ்சாமி
ருஸ்யமூகமமும்த்வஹம்॥
tamajayyamadhṛṣyaṃ ca
vānarēndramamarṣaṇam ।
vicintayanna muñcāmi
ṛṡyamūkamamuṃtvaham॥
Thinking of that angry lord of Vānaras,
who is unassailable and invincible,
I stay put, without leaving this Ṛshyamūka.
உத்விக்நஸ்ஸங்கிதஸ்சாபி
விசராமி மஹாவநே ।
அநுரக்தை: ஸஹாமாத்யை:
ஹநுமத்ப்ரமுகைர்வரை: ॥
udvignaṡṡaṅkitaṡcāpi
vicarāmi mahāvanē ।
anuraktai: sahāmātyaiḥ
hanumatpramukhairvaraiḥ ॥
Worried and scared, I dwell in this great Vana,
along with Hanumān and other
wonderful ministers who like me.
உபலப்தம் ச மே ஸ்லாக்யம்
ஸந்மித்ரம் மித்ரவத்ஸல ।
த்வாமஹம் புருஷவ்யாக்ர
ஹிமவந்தமிவாஸ்ரித: ॥
upalabdhaṃ ca mē ṡlāghyam
sanmitraṃ mitravatsala ।
tvāmahaṃ puruṣavyāghra
himavantamivāṡritaḥ ॥
O you who love your friends!
I gained (in you) a friend who is worthy of high praise!
O tiger among men! I take recourse in you
who is (imposing and steady) like Himavān!
கிம் து தஸ்ய பலஜ்ஞோऽஹம்
துர்ப்ராதுர்பலஸாலிந: ।
அப்ரத்யக்ஷம் து மே வீர்யம்
ஸமரே தவ ராகவ ॥
kiṃ tu tasya balajñō'ham
durbhrāturbalaṡālinaḥ ।
apratyakṣaṃ tu mē vīryam
samarē tava rāghava ॥
I know the strength of that
mighty strong evil brother of mine.
But, O Rāghava, I have never had the
occasion to see your prowess in fight!

விசராமி மஹாவநே ।
அநுரக்தை: ஸஹாமாத்யை:
ஹநுமத்ப்ரமுகைர்வரை: ॥
udvignaṡṡaṅkitaṡcāpi
vicarāmi mahāvanē ।
anuraktai: sahāmātyaiḥ
hanumatpramukhairvaraiḥ ॥
Worried and scared, I dwell in this great Vana,
along with Hanumān and other
wonderful ministers who like me.
உபலப்தம் ச மே ஸ்லாக்யம்
ஸந்மித்ரம் மித்ரவத்ஸல ।
த்வாமஹம் புருஷவ்யாக்ர
ஹிமவந்தமிவாஸ்ரித: ॥
upalabdhaṃ ca mē ṡlāghyam
sanmitraṃ mitravatsala ।
tvāmahaṃ puruṣavyāghra
himavantamivāṡritaḥ ॥
O you who love your friends!
I gained (in you) a friend who is worthy of high praise!
O tiger among men! I take recourse in you
who is (imposing and steady) like Himavān!
கிம் து தஸ்ய பலஜ்ஞோऽஹம்
துர்ப்ராதுர்பலஸாலிந: ।
அப்ரத்யக்ஷம் து மே வீர்யம்
ஸமரே தவ ராகவ ॥
kiṃ tu tasya balajñō'ham
durbhrāturbalaṡālinaḥ ।
apratyakṣaṃ tu mē vīryam
samarē tava rāghava ॥
I know the strength of that
mighty strong evil brother of mine.
But, O Rāghava, I have never had the
occasion to see your prowess in fight!
