Deepavali Gift
The needy and underprivileged in Vadapalani and Kodambakkam areas were overjoyed as they walked away with new clothes from the Sri Balavinayagar Temple in Saligramam on Sunday.
The women smiled brightly as they compared the colours and designs that were on the sarees they received. The men were also glad to receive new T-shirts. The Sri Balavinayagar Seva Trust organised this clothes distribution as part of its Deepavali celebrations on the temple premises.
“We were very happy to receive this as they lovingly gave us gifts from the temple for Deepavali,” said K Malarkodi from KK Nagar, who carefully packed her saree into a bag. The donations included T-shirts worth `280 each to 300 men and sarees worth `350 each to 350 women. Six hundred and fifty underprivileged men and women received clothes and sweets worth over `2 lakh from film actors Lekha Rajendran and Venu Arvind.
“This is the right occasion to donate and stand up to the ideology of the festival, making the deprived brethren enjoy the occasion as we do,” said K Subramanian, managing trustee of the Trust.
