The Soundaryaraja Perumal Temple is located in the heart of the Nagapattinam city. This temple attracted thousands of pilgrims due to the recently held Kumbabhishekam. The temple has a fascinating legend and a remarkable history. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in the form of Soundaryarajan, a synonym of love and beauty.
The main deity in this temple is referred as Naagai Azhagiyar in Thirumangai Azhwar’s "Periya Thirumozhi". The Lord’s body is marvelously gold colored with ornaments studded with emerald. The myth and the epic Brahmanda Puranam says the temple has been here for four yugas.
Idols of serpent gods, Adisesha and His Consorts, are seen in the premises of the temple. The temple has a majestic 70-feet Rajagopuram and a four-pillared mandapam at the entry. It has a holy Dwajasthambam and a Garuda Mandapam. The source for the holy water Soundarya Pushkarani and the Vasantha Mandapam are other attractions in this temple.
