Shantadurga Kalangutkarin Temple is a famous Durga temple located in Nanoda village in Bicholim taluka in Goa. The temple’s presiding deity is Goddess Shantadurga – the calm and composed form of Goddess Shakti and is worshipped as Maa Vishweshwari.
Maa Shantadurga, also known as ‘Santeri’ colloquially, is worshipped as the goddess of prosperity, fortune, fertility, wisdom and courage. She is believed to be a calm embodiment of the fierce Goddess Durga who mediates disputes between Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu.
Originally constructed in 17th century, the temple was repaired and renovated in 1990. The architecture of this temple reflects a perfect blend of contemporary elegance and the ingenious acumen of the artisans. The temple complex has a Deepa Stambha and Agrashalas. The sanctum sanctorum houses an murti of the presiding deity, in the form of a lingam, believed to be 800 years old.
