    Panchamuga Anjaneya Temple Pondicherry

    Dear friends

I had been to the Panchamukha Anjaneyar temple at Pondicherry yesterday. It is my second visit to the temple. During my earlier visit during 2012 mid, the closed pathway was not there to reach the temple. Now closed pathway, arranged car parking and footwear keeping are there. I am not sure, the Anjaneyar is equal in size to Nanganallur Anjaneyar. Being Friday the crowd was not much. The temple is VERY NEAT and well maintained. The temple has a Rama sannidhi and Vinayaka Sannidhi. We performed Archana and ticket cost is 30-00 per family. For car parking 20-00 rupees is charged. The following is a COMPILATION about the temple from different websites. A few repetitons are there, worth repeating.

    Sincerely
    GopalaKrishnan 20-2-2016

    1 Introduction

Panchamukha Anjaneya Temple is in Panchavatee, a small village, on the high way leading to Tindivanam, about 12 kms away from Pondicherry (Puducherry).

The gigantic image of Anjaneya (Hanuman) that stands 36 feet high is one of the tallest Hanuman images in India. Panchamukha Anjaneya Temple is run by Pamchamukha Sri Jayamurthi Seva Trust including Parama Sri Ramani Anna. The temple land was donated by Santhanam Iyengar.

    2 History

This temple has been constructed on 12 acres of land and the area where the temple of Sri Panchamukha Anjaneyaswamy (Hanuman) is located is known as Panchavatee Kshetram. In the great Indian epic, Ramayana, Panchavatee was described as the forest area where Rama and his wife, Sita spent some years as part of their exile from Ayodhya. The Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy's Vigraham (statue) was installed on 11th June 2003.

    3 Pilgrims Visit

Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya's devotees throng this temple to offer him a garland of ulundu vadais (black gram savory doughnuts), known popularly as Hanumar vadais. The significance behind offering this garland is that black gram has cooling properties. This cools down the angry form of Anjaneya and makes him benign to his devotees. Another reason is that the black gram is also the dedicated grain for Lord Saneeswaran (Saturn) and the two snake planets, Rahu and Ketu. It is believed that devotees of Anjaneya do not get affected by the bad positions of these planets. On Saturdays, the day dedicated to Sani, many vadamalais (garlands of vadais) are offered to Anjaneya.

    4 Attractions

The Temple-Panchamukha Anjaneya Temple near Pondicherry (Puducherry) has two magnificent shrines. The first one is dedicated to Jayamangala Valampuri Maha Ganapathy and the other to Lord Rama (incarnation of Lord Vishnu). Rama is shown in his Pattabishega Thirukolam (coronation form).

The Anjaneya deity is a unique Viswaroopa image (universal image) with five faces. Hanuman's own face is shown in the center with the other four showing Garuda (kite, vehicle of Vishnu), Hayagreeva (horse-faced incarnation), Narasimha (lion-faced incarnation and Varaha (boar-faced image). This five-faced Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya is a symbol of the synergy that exists in Hinduism between animal, man and the divine!

As only four faces of Anjaneya are visible from the front, a small glass window on the rear wall allows you to see the fifth face at the rear as you take a pradakshinam (circumambulation) of the shrine.

In front of Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya's shrine, there is a vessel filled with water which has a floating stone said to weigh about 14 kgs, which was one of the rocks used by Lord Ram's Vaanar Sena (monkey army) to build the bridge across to Lanka. Rama was on a mission to attack his wife Sita's kidnapper, the ten-headed demon Ravana. Panchamuga Anjaneya Temple has been built at Panchavadi, a small village, on the high way leading to Tindivanam. It is just 12kms distance from Puducherry. The gigantic idol of Anjaneya which is standing 32 feet high is becoming popular day by day and attracts all worshippers, young and old, alike from far and near.
Located on the Tindivanam-Pondicherry National Highway, is the Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple around His Magnificient Viswaroopa form standing 36 feet tall and 15 feet wide - not seen anywhere else on this earth.

There are two magnificent sannidhis, one for Jayamangala Valampuri Maha Ganapathy and another for Sri Ramachandra Prabhu in Pattabishega Thirukolam (Coronation Durbar) showering their benign blessings on all devotees

This Temple has been constructed on a 12 acre land, located on the 29th kilometre on the Tindivanam - Pondicherry National Highway. This area where the Temple for Sri Panchamukha Anjaneyaswamy is located is known as Panchavatee Kshetram. The Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy's Vigraham, installed at the Panchavatee Kshetram on 11th June 2003, is in unique Viswaroopa posture (Thirukolam), 36 feet in height not seen anywhere else on this earth. Besides this sannidhi for Anjaneyaswamy, the Temple also enshrines Sannidhis for Jayamangala Mahaganapathi and Sri Ramachandraprabhu in Pattabhisheka Thirukolam.

The Consecreation (Maha-kumbhabhishekam) for this Temple was performed on 31st January 2007
