Yuddha Kaanda Sarga 76
Yuddha Kaanda - Sarga 76
In this Sarga, Vānaras slay the Rākshasas Kampana, Prajaṅgha, Ṡōṇitāksha, Yūpāksha and Kumbha.
To begin with Aṅgada fights with Kampana and strikes him down in no time. Then Ṡōṇitāksha attacks Aṅgada. Aṅgada, after dealing a severe blow to Ṡōṇitāksha, leaves him alone to fight other Rākshasas. Then, Ṡōṇitāksha, regaining senses and accompanied by Yūpāksha and Prajaṅgha, pursues Aṅgada. Mainda and Dwivida join, to fight along with Aṅgada.
A fierce fight ensues between the three Rākshasas and the three Vānaras. Aṅgada slays Prajaṅgha, Dwivida slays Ṡōṇitāksha and Mainda slays Yūpāksha. Having lost its principal fighters, the Rākshasa army flees and seeks protection from Kumbha, son of Kumbhakarṇa. Kumbha, with his arrows, strikes hard, and the Vānaras, Dwivida, Mainda and even Aṅgada fall unconscious.
Vānara chiefs go and report to Rāma about the gravity of the situation. Rāma sends Vānara chiefs including Sugreeva to fight Kumbha under the leadership of Jāmbavān. Kumbha easily subdues Jāmbavān , Sushēṇa and Vēgadarsi. Then Sugreeva takes on Kumbha and a fierce duel ensues between them. Kumbha puts up a stiff fight, but at the end Sugreeva manages to break his bow and toss him into the ocean. Kumbha springs up from the ocean and continues the fight. Ultimately, Kumbha succumbs to a blow from the fist of Sugreeva and dies.
