Yuddha Kaanda - Sarga 72
In this Sarga, hearing that Atikāya is also slain, just as the strong Rākshasas like Dhūmrāksha, Akampana, Prahasta and Kumbhakarṇa already were, Rāvaṇa feels miserable and comes to terms with the fact that Rāma and Lakshmaṇa are extraordinary, as they could also free themselves from the bonds of Indrajit's arrows. He is unable to think of anyone else who can destroy Rāma and his army.
He instructs the Rākshasas to keep guard everywhere in the city, and a vigil on the movements of the Vānaras.

லக்ஷ்மணேந மஹௌஜஸா ।
உத்வேகமகமத்ராஜா

Hearing that Atikāya was slain
by Lakshmaṇa of extraordinary energy,
the king was shaken and said these words:

தந்வீ ஸஸ்த்ரப்ருதாம் வர: ।
அகம்பந: ப்ரஹஸ்தஸ்ச
கும்பகர்ணஸ்ததைவ ச ।
ஏதே மஹாபலா வீரா
ராக்ஷஸா யுத்தகாங்க்ஷிண: ।
ஜேதார: பரஸைந்யாநாம்
பரைர்நித்யாபராஜிதா: ।
நிஹதாஸ்தே மஹாவீர்யா
ராமேணாக்லிஷ்டகர்மணா ॥
Dhūmrāksha, foremost of bowmen,
whose wrath was formidable, and
Akampana, Prahasta and Kumbhakarṇa
were destroyed, along with their armies,
by Rāma, who does things with ease.
These Rākshasas of immense strength,
ever thirsting for fight, were valiant,
and only knew winning over the enemy forces,
and defeated their enemies as a matter of routine.

Many other heroic Rākshasas,
Mahātmas of huge bodies,
savants of all kinds of Ṡastras,
were also struck down.

புத்ரேணேந்த்ரஜிதா மம ।
யௌ ஹி தௌ ப்ராதரௌ வீரௌ
பத்தௌ தத்தவரை: ஸரை: ।
யந்ந ஸக்யம் ஸுரை: ஸர்வை:
அஸுரைர்வா மஹாபலை: ।
மோக்தும் தத்பந்தநம் கோரம்
யக்ஷகந்தர்வகிந்நரை: ।
தந்ந ஜாநே ப்ரபாவைர்வா
மாயயா மோஹநேந வா ।
ஸரபந்தாத்விமுக்தௌ தௌ
ப்ராதரௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ॥
The two brothers were bound by my son Indrajit,
who is renowned for his strength and valor,
with arrows that had been endowed with special
powers by the boon of the Dēvas,
from the dreaded bonds of which
no Sura or Asura, however strong they might be,
and no Yaksha, Gandharva or Pannaga, could free oneself.
I do not know what power or magic or trickery
those two brothers Rāma and Lakshmaṇa have,
to free themselves from the bonds of those arrows.

ராக்ஷஸா மம ஸாஸநாத் ।
தே ஸர்வே நிஹதா யுத்தே

Every one of the warriors
that went to fight by my command
has been killed in the battle by
Vānaras, surely of extraordinary strength.

யோऽத்ய ராமம் ஸலக்ஷ்மணம் ।
நாஸயேத் ஸபலம் வீரம்

I cannot find anyone today who can destroy
Rāma the Veera, along with Lakshmaṇa,
Sugreeva, Vibheeshaṇa and the army.

மஹதஸ்த்ரபலம் ச வை ।
யஸ்ய விக்ரமமாஸாத்ய

Ah! What tremendous strength and
mastery of great Astras does Rāma have,
unable to face whose prowess,
the Rākshasas have met their end.

பிஹிதத்வாரதோரணா ।
அப்ரமத்தைஸ்ச ஸர்வத்ர
குப்தை ரக்ஷ்யா புரீ த்வியம் ॥
It is for the fear of him
all the doors and gateways of
this city of Laṅkā are kept locked.
And, let this city be protected everywhere
by the troops in high alert.

யத்ர ஸீதாऽபிரக்ஷ்யதே ।
நிஷ்க்ராமோ வா ப்ரவேஸோ வா

Seetā also should be guarded in the Aṡōka Vana and
we must know who is going out or coming in at any time.

6.72.13 ஈ யத்ர யத்ர பவேத் குல்ம:
தத்ரதத்ர புந:புந: ।
ஸர்வதஸ்சாபி திஷ்டத்வம்
ஸ்வை:ஸ்வை: பரிவ்ருதா பலை: ॥
And the troops everywhere
must be reinforced by you,
as you take take position everywhere
supported by your respective forces.

வாநராணாம் நிஸாசரா: ।
ப்ரதோஷே வாऽர்தராத்ரே வா

Vigil must be kept on the movements
of the Vānaras, O Night-Rovers,
even in the evenings, middle of the night
and early hours of the day!

வாநரேஷு கதாசந ।
த்விஷதாம் பலமுத்யுக்தம்

Never underestimate the Vānaras.
Beware whether the enemy forces
are stationary or getting ready for an attack
or already on the move to attack.

ஸ்ருத்வா லங்காதிபஸ்ய தத் ।

Hearing those words of the lord of Laṅkā,
all the Rākshasas of immense strength,
took positions, as were told.

ராவணோ ராக்ஷஸாதிப: ।
மந்யுஸல்யம் வஹந் தீந:
ப்ரவிவேஸ ஸ்வமாலயம் ॥
Having instructed them thus,
Rāvaṇa, the lord of Rākshasas,
dejected and tormented by agony,
retired to his own residence.

நிஸாசராணாமதிபோ மஹாபல: ।
ததேவ புத்ரவ்யஸநம் விசிந்தயந்
முஹுர்முஹுஸ்சைவ ததா வ்யநிஸ்வஸத் ॥
With the fire of anger raging in him,
the Lord of Night-Rovers, of immense strength,
heaved deep sighs again and again,
his thoughts occupied by the fate met by his sons.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
யுத்தகாண்டே த்விஸப்ததிதம: ஸர்க:॥
Thus concludes the seventy second Sarga
in Yuddha Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
