And with his sharpened, glittering sword
Vāli’s son of tremendous strength
cut off Vajradaṃshṭra’s head.
This Sloka seems unauthentic. Vānaras use only trees and rocks as weapons, and not swords. Rāma, under oath, is in exile, and hence cannot use the assistance of any civilized species. Use of sword by any of his aides amounts to his taking the help of civilized species.
Also, the entire Sargas 53 and 54, about the fight between Aṅgada and Vajradaṃshṭra could be unauthentic; they are not present in the Eastern edition.
