In a short while the Vānaras beheld
Garuḍa, the son of Vinata, of immense strength,
dazzling like a tongue of flame.

nāgāstē vipradudruvuḥ ।
yaistau satpuruṣau baddhau
ṡarabhūtairmahābalau ॥
On seeing him come, the serpents
which, turning into extremely powerful arrows,
had bound those good men, slithered away.

dṛṣṭvā pratyabhinanditaḥ ।
vimamarṡa ca pāṇibhyām
mukhē candrasamaprabhē ॥
Garuḍa looked at the scions of the Kākutsthas,
congratulated them and gently touched them
with his hands on their moon-bright faces.

tayōḥ saṃruruhurvraṇāḥ ।
suvarṇē ca tanū snigdhē
tayōrāṡu babhūvatuḥ ॥
Their wounds were healed
at the touch of Vinata’s son,
and their bodies forthwith
became glossy and golden.

tējō vīryaṃ balaṃ cauja
utsāhaṡca mahāguṇaḥ ।
pradarṡanaṃ ca buddhiṡca
smṛtiṡca dviguṇaṃ tayōḥ ॥
Their prowess, valor, strength, and splendor as
well as the energy and enterprise that are priceless,
and their acuteness of perception, intelligence
and power of memory were all doubled.

தாவுத்தாப்ய மஹாவீர்யௌ
கருடோ வாஸவோபமௌ ।

tāvutthāpya mahāvīryau
garuḍō vāsavōpamau ।
ubhau tau sasvajē hṛṣṭau
rāmaṡcainamuvāca ha ॥
Garuḍa raised those men of extraordinary valor,
who were comparable to Vāsava and embraced them,
who rejoiced to see him. And Rāma told him:

rāvaṇiprabhavaṃ mahat ।
āvāmiha vyatikrāntau
pūrvavadbalinau kṛtau ॥
By your grace we have been rescued
from the terrible suffering
caused by the son of Rāvaṇa,
and have regained our former strength.

My heart is filled with joy with you here,
like it would be in the presence of
my father Daṡaratha or my grandfather Aja.

Who may you be, honored Sir,
with charming features and
adorned with divine garlands and unguents,
clad in spotless clothes and
wearing splendid ornaments?

Vainatēya, the king of birds, who was
endowed with immense strength and power,
was pleased to hear what he said,
and he answered him, his eyes beaming with joy:

Consider me as your friend, O Kākutstha,
and as your Prāṇa that happened to be outside of you.
I am known as Garuḍa and I have come here to help you.

ஸரபந்தம் ஸுதாருணம் ।
மாயாபலாதிந்த்ரஜிதா
நிர்மிதம் க்ரூரகர்மணா ॥
asurā vā mahāvīryā
dānavā vā mahābalāḥ ।
surāṡcāpi sagandharvāḥ
puraskṛtya ṡatakratum ।
nēmaṃ mōkṣayituṃ ṡaktāḥ
ṡarabandhaṃ sudāruṇam ।
māyābalādindrajitā
nirmitaṃ krūrakarmaṇā ॥
Neither Asuras of extreme valor
nor Dānavas of immense strength,
nor again the Dēvas along with Gandharvas
led by Indra, can free one from these
terrible arrow-bonds fastened on you
by Indrajit of cruel deeds, using magical powers.

ஏதே நாகா: காத்ரவேயா:
தீக்ஷ்ணதம்ஷ்ட்ரா விஷோல்பணா: ।

ētē nāgāḥ kādravēyāḥ
tīkṣṇadaṃṣṭrā viṣōlbaṇāḥ ।
rakṣōmāyāprabhāvēṇa
ṡarā bhūtvā tvadāṡritāḥ ॥
These serpents with sharp fangs
and deadly poison are the sons of Kadru.
Because of the magic powers of the Rākshasa
they turned into arrows and
wrapped themselves around you.

rāma satyaparākrama ।
lakṣmaṇēna saha bhrātrā
samarē ripughātinā ॥
O Rāma! O Dharmajña!
You of true prowess,
and your brother Lakshmaṇa,
who strikes down the foe in battle
are very fortunate.

tvaramāṇō'hamāgataḥ ।
sahasā yuvayōḥ snēhāt
sakhitvamanupālayan ॥
On hearing what happened,
I rushed here immediately
out of affection for both of you,
to do what is only expected of a true friend.

மோக்ஷிதௌ ச மஹாகோராத்
அஸ்மாத் ஸாயகபந்தநாத் ।

mōkṣitau ca mahāghōrāt
asmāt sāyakabandhanāt ।
apramādaṡca kartavyō
yuvābhyāṃ nityamēva hi ॥
You are now freed from these
terrible bonds of the arrows.
Both of you should be ever vigilant.
