sā'nucintayatē nityam
samāptavratamāgatam ।
kadā drakṣyāmi sītāṃ ca
lakṣmaṇaṃ ca sarāghavam ॥
She constantly thinks, ‘Ah, when will I see
Rāghava return with Seetā and Lakshmaṇa,
his vow fulfilled?”

bhartā'yaṃ tava jīvati ।
kāraṇāni ca vakṣyāmi
mahānti sadṛṡāni ca ।
yathēmau jīvatō dēvi
bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau ॥
Do not grieve, my lady, your husband is alive.
And I shall give you very good reasons
why I think these two brothers
Rāma and Lakshmaṇa are well alive.

The faces of warriors would not be filled with rage
as much as they would not be with joy
when their lord is slain in battle.

if these two had lost their lives.

An army loses its morale and initiative

It will spin like a ship that has lost its
rudder in the middle of the water.

You are worried (unnecessarily)!
This army is neither confounded, nor agitated;
it is engaged in the protection of Kākutsthas,
which I want to stress to you, to cheer you up!

sā tvaṃ bhava suvisrabdhā
anumānaiḥ sukhōdayaiḥ ।
ahatau paṡya kākutsthau
snēhādētad bravīmi tē ॥
You shall keep faith, because of
all these positive indications.
Take it that the Kākutsthas are not slain.
Let me say this with all my love (for you)!

Give up the grief, the delusions and the sobs
for the sake of Rāma and
Lakshmaṇa, O daughter of Janaka.
It is impossible that they should not live.

palms joined in a praying gesture.

which could fly at the speed of the mind,
was then taken back and the doleful Seetā
was lodged back in Laṅkā, by Trijaṭa.

Returning to the pleasure gardens
of the lord of Rākshasas that were
filled with many kinds of groves,
she pondered long on the plight of the princes
and remained overpowered by grief.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
யுத்தகாண்டே அஷ்டசத்வாரிம்ஸ: ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
yuddhakāṇḍē aṣṭacatvāriṃṡaḥ sargaḥ॥
Thus concludes the forty eighth Sarga
in Yuddha Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
