    Yuddha Kaanda Sargas 48

    Yuddha Kaanda - Sarga 48
In this Sarga, Seetā cries pitiably on seeing Rāma and Lakshmaṇa lying in the battle-field, slain. She wonders how the prophesy of all those wise men who are well-versed in reading body marks could go in vain. She is puzzled at her fate, as she knows of no birth marks on her that portend widowhood for her. She thinks of her mother-in-law who eagerly awaits the return of her son along with Lakshmaṇa and Seetā.
Trijaṭa consoles Seetā, asserting that the brothers are still alive. She says that the army would not be as composed as it was, if their chief is slain. She points to the army, which is neither confounded nor agitated, but is carefully protecting the brothers. She asks Seetā to carefully note the signs of life on the faces of Rāma and Lakshmaṇa. Seetā wishes that Trijata’s words be true. Trijaṭa takes Seetā back in the Pushpaka to the Aṡōka pleasance.
