Sugreeva along with Jāmbavān,
supported by a huge army,
took position at the central area,
to the west of Rāma, not too far from him.

Those tigers among Vānaras,
with teeth strong as tigers’,
were excited and ready for the fight,
armed with trees and mountain peaks.

All of them had their tail up and curved.
All of them had teeth and nails for weapons.
All of them twisted their limbs in curious ways.
All of them sported wry faces.

descended on that city.

by that sudden siege by Vānaras
who, comparable to Ṡakra in valor,
were as huge as clouds.

kramayōgārthatattv avit ।
vibhīṣaṇasyānumatē
rājadharmamanusmaran ।
aṅgadaṃ vālitanayam
samāhūyēdamabravīt ॥
Thus organizing his forces for destroying the Rākshasas
after thorough deliberations and making critical decisions
in consultation with his ministers,
Rāghava wanted to complete the next logical step.
Keeping in mind the science of polity
and in consultation with Vibheeshaṇa,
he summoned Aṅgada, the son of Vāli
and said these words:

laṅghayitvā purīṃ laṅkām
bhayaṃ tyaktvā gatavyathaḥ ।
bhraṣṭaṡrīkaṃ gataiṡvaryaṃ
mumūrṣā naṣṭacētasam ॥
My dear Vānara, leap over the city of Laṅkā
and go to the Ten-Necked, whose riches and power
are all but lost and who is seeking death,
his senses impaired.
With no fear or worries whatsoever,
convey this as my message:

svayambhūvaradānajaḥ ।
tasya pāpasya saṃprāptai
vyuṣṭiradya durāsadā ॥
The time has come for you, O Night-Rover,
to reap the unbearable consequences of
your offences against the sages, the gods,
the Gandharvas, the Apsarasas, the Nāgas,
the Yakshas and the Kings,
which you, blinded by pride, committed.
And here deflates the arrogance bred in you
by the boon granted by the Self-Emergent.

and holding the punishing rod,
to deliver justice unto you.

கத்வா ஸோம்ய தஸக்ரீவம்
ப்ருஹி மத்வசநாத் கபே ।
லங்கயித்வா புரீம் லங்காம்
பயம் த்யக்த்வா கதவ்யத: ।
ப்ரஷ்டஸ்ரீகம் கதைஸ்வர்யம்
முமூர்ஷா நஷ்டசேதஸம் ॥
gatvā sōmya daṡagrīvam
bruhi madvacanāt kapē ।
laṅghayitvā purīṃ laṅkām
bhayaṃ tyaktvā gatavyathaḥ ।
bhraṣṭaṡrīkaṃ gataiṡvaryaṃ
mumūrṣā naṣṭacētasam ॥
My dear Vānara, leap over the city of Laṅkā
and go to the Ten-Necked, whose riches and power
are all but lost and who is seeking death,
his senses impaired.
With no fear or worries whatsoever,
convey this as my message:

ருஷீணாம் தேவதாநாம் ச
கந்தர்வாப்ஸரஸாம் ததா ।
நாகாநாமத யக்ஷாணாம்
ராஜ்ஞாம் ச ரஜநீசர ।
யச்ச பாபம் க்ருதம் மோஹாத்
அவலிப்தேந ராக்ஷஸ ।
நூநம் தே விகதோ தர்ப:
ஸ்வயம்பூவரதாநஜ: ।
தஸ்ய பாபஸ்ய ஸம்ப்ராப்தை
வ்யுஷ்டிரத்ய துராஸதா ॥
ṛṣīṇāṃ dēvatānāṃ ca
gandharvāpsarasāṃ tathā ।
nāgānāmatha yakṣāṇām
rājñāṃ ca rajanīcara ।
yacca pāpaṃ kṛtaṃ mōhāt
avaliptēna rākṣasa ।
nūnaṃ tē v igatō darpaḥ
svayambhūvaradānajaḥ ।
tasya pāpasya saṃprāptai
vyuṣṭiradya durāsadā ॥
The time has come for you, O Night-Rover,
to reap the unbearable consequences of
your offences against the sages, the gods,
the Gandharvas, the Apsarasas, the Nāgas,
the Yakshas and the Kings,
which you, blinded by pride, committed.
And here deflates the arrogance bred in you
by the boon granted by the Self-Emergent.

தஸ்ய தண்டதரஸ்தேऽஹம்
தாராஹரணகர்ஸித: ।
தண்டம் தாரயமாணஸ்து
லங்காத்வாரே வ்யவஸ்தித: ॥
tasya daṇḍadharastē'ham
dārāharaṇakarṡitaḥ ।
daṇḍaṃ dhārayamāṇastu
laṅkādvārē vyavasthitaḥ ॥
Here I am, worn out from (the grief of)
the abduction of my wife,
standing at the threshold of Laṅkā,
and holding the punishing rod,
to deliver justice unto you.

பதவீம் தேவதாநாம் ச
மஹர்ஷீணாம் ச ராக்ஷஸ ।
ராஜர்ஷீணாம் ச ஸர்வேஷாம்
கமிஷ்யஸி மயா ஹத: ॥
padavīṃ dēvatānāṃ ca
maharṣīṇāṃ ca rākṣasa ।
rājarṣīṇāṃ ca sarvēṣām
gamiṣyasi mayā hataḥ ॥
Slain by me, O Rākshasa, you shall go to
the blessed regions of the Dēvas, to which go
all the Maharshis and Rājarshis.
