Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 58
In this Sarga, Jāmbavan, on behalf of all the Vānaras, asks Hanumān to tell about what he did in Laṅkā, how he found Seetā and what the wicked Rāvaṇa was doing.
Hanumān then explains everything as it happened, from the Maināka mountain offering him respite, Surasa wanting to devour him, Simhika seizing him by his shadow, his knocking down of the city of Laṅkā that appeared in the form of a Rākshasi, his searching for Seetā and finding her in the Aṡōka pleasance, Rākshasis and Rāvaṇa threatening Seetā, and Seeta taunting Rāvaṇa for his advances, Trijaṭa telling about her dream, his opening a conversation with Seetā by praising the lineage of Ikshwākus, Seetā inquiring about him and then trusting him, his passing on the ring given by Rāma to her and offering to take her back to Rāma, her insistence on Rāma destroying Laṅkā and taking her back, and giving him a jewel as a token of identification, his destroying of the Vana, Rāvaṇa sending Kiṅkaras, Jambumāli, sons of ministers, five army chiefs and his son Aksha, and his killing all of them, Rāvaṇa sending Indrajit finally, and Indrajit capturing hi m with the power of Brahma Astra, his being taken to the presence of Rāvaṇa, Rāvaṇa ordering him to be killed, Vibheeshaṇa counseling Rāvaṇa that an envoy can only be disfigured but not killed, Rāvaṇa ordering his tail to be set on fire, his burning down the entire city of Laṅkā, his getting worried about Seetā also being consumed by fire, learning from Cāraṇas that Seetā was safe, to his seeing her again, and finally taking off from the Arishṭa mountain and crossing the ocean.
Hanumān concludes saying that he had done what could be done in Laṅkā and it is for all of them to decide what is to be done next.
