na cāpi triṣu lōkēṣu
rājanvidyēta kaṡcana ।
rāghavasya vyalīkaṃ yaḥ
kṛtvā sukhamavāpnuyāt ॥
There is no one in the three worlds,
O King, who committed an offence
against Rāghava and found peace.

தர்ம்யமர்தாநுபந்தி ச ।

dharmyamarthānubandhi ca ।
manyasva naradēvāya
jānakī pratidīyatām ॥
I hope you appreciate these words,
which bode well for your
past, present and future and
which are grounded in Dharma and serve Artha!
May Jānaki be returned to that Dēva among men!

labdhaṃ yadiha durlabham ।
uttaraṃ karma yacchēṣam
nimittaṃ tatra rāghavaḥ ॥
As impossible as (I thought) it could be,
I have seen the lady here.
Whatever is left to be done now, is up to Rāghava.

I have seen how extremely sad Seetā is.
You do not realize that you
have captured a five-hooded female serpent.

sāsurairamarairapi ।
viṣasaṃsṛṣṭamatyartham
bhuktamannamivaujasā ॥
No one is powerful enough to digest her,
be it Amaras with help from Asuras,
any more than one can, any food
mixed with copious amounts of poison.

யோऽயம் தர்மபரிக்ரஹ: ।

tapassantāpalabdhastē
yō'yaṃ dharmaparigrahaḥ ।
na sa nāṡayituṃ nyāyya
ātmaprāṇaparigrahaḥ ॥
It is not proper for you to ruin
this long lease of life you have gained
by putting yourself through harsh Tapa
and through the deeds of Dharma.

அவத்யதாம் தபோபிர்யாம்
பவாந் ஸமநுபஸ்யதி ।
ஆத்மந: ஸாஸுரைர்தேவை:
ஹேதுஸ்தத்ராப்யயம் மஹாந் ॥
avadhyatāṃ tapōbhiryām
bhavān samanupaṡyati ।
ātmanaḥ sāsurairdēvaiḥ
hētustatrāpyayaṃ mahān ॥
Perhaps you think of the immunity from death
that you earned through your Tapa
from the hands of the Dēvas and Asuras
but that left you with a bigger reason (to worry).
This Ṡlōka refers to Rāvaṇa asking Lord Ṡiva for the boon of immunity from death in the hands of the Devas and Asuras and, in his arrogance, not in the hands of humans and Vānaras. Hence, it is a reason for him to worry, now that his death in the hands of Rāma and Sugreeva are imminent.

tasmātprāṇaparitrāṇam
kathaṃ rājankariṣyasi ॥
This Sugreeva is neither a Dēva,
nor an Asura, nor a Rākshasa, nor a Dānava,
nor a Gandharva, nor a Yaksha, nor a Pannaga;
how would you save yourself from him, O king?

tadēva phalamanvēti
dharmaṡcādharmanāṡanaḥ ॥
The fruits of Dharma are never enjoyed
in conjunction with the fruits of Adharma.
It yields only what it is bound to.
But Dharma does not annul Adharma.

prāptaṃ dharmaphalaṃ tāvat
bhavatā nātra saṃṡayaḥ ।
phalamasyāpyadharmasya
kṣipramēva prapatsyasē ॥
No doubt that you have enjoyed
the fruits of Dharma thus far;
but very soon, you will
reap the results of your Adharma.

buddhvā vālivadhaṃ tathā ।
rāmasugrīvasakhyaṃ ca
budhyasva hitamātmanaḥ ॥
Keeping in mind the slayings in Janasthāna and
keeping in mind the slaying of Vāli, and
also the alliance between Rāma and Sugreeva,
think about what is good for yourself.

savājirathakuñjarām ।
laṅkāṃ nāṡayituṃ ṡaktaḥ
tasyaiṣa tu na niṡcayaḥ ॥
I can, all by myself, destroy Laṅkā
along with its horses, chariots and elephants.
But that is not what he (Rāma) has in mind.

haryṛkṣagaṇasannidhau ।
utsādanamamitrāṇām
sītā yaistu pradharṣitā ॥
Rāma took a vow, in the presence of
the hosts of Vānaras and bears, that
he would exterminate his enemies
by whom Seetā was wronged.

அபகுர்வந் ஹி ராமஸ்ய
ஸாக்ஷாதபி புரந்தர: ।

sākṣādapi purandaraḥ ।
na sukhaṃ prāpnuyādanyaḥ
kiṃ punastvadvidhō janaḥ ॥
Having caused harm to Rāma, no one,
even if it is none other than Indra,
can expect to find peace;
how then could any other, like you?
