ம்ருகாஸ்ச ரௌத்ரா பஹுதா விநேது: ॥
tasmiṃstataḥ saṃyati jātaharṣē
raṇāya nirgacchati cāpapāṇau ।
diṡaṡca sarvāḥ kaluṣā babhūvuḥ
mṛgāṡca raudrā bahudhā vinēduḥ ॥
When he thus went forth for a fight,
with all enthusiasm and a bow in his hand,
all the quarters were overcast and
fierce beasts emitted harsh cri

விநேதுருச்சை: பரமப்ரஹ்ருஷ்டா: ॥
samāgatāstatra tu nāgayakṣā
maharṣayaṡcakracarāṡca siddhāḥ ।
nabhassamāvṛtya ca pakṣisaṅghāḥ
vinēduruccaiḥ paramaprahṛṣṭāḥ ॥
There gathered in the sky Nāgas, Yakshas, Maharshis and
Siddhas who sojourn among the celestial constellations,
and hosts of birds, uttering loud and delighted cries.

தூர்ணமிந்த்ரஜிதம் கபி: ।

tūrṇamindrajitaṃ kapiḥ ।
vinanāda mahānādam
vyavardhata ca vēgavān ॥
Seeing Indrajit coming along
swiftly in his chariot,
the swift Vānara let out a great shout
and started increasing in size.

āsthitaṡcitrakārmukaḥ ।
dhanurviṣphārayāmāsa
taṭidūrjitannissvanam ॥
In response, Indrajit, seated in his
splendid chariot and holding a stylish bow,
twanged the bowstring, raising a din like thunder.

மஹாபலௌ தௌ ரணநிர்விஸங்கௌ ।

ஸுராஸுரேந்த்ராவிவ பத்தவைரௌ ॥
tatassamētāvatitīkṣṇavēgau
mahābalau tau raṇanirviṡaṅkau ।
kapiṡca rakṣōdhipatēstanūjaḥ
surāsurēndrāviva baddhavairau ॥
The Vānara and the son of the Rākshasa King met,
both possessed of terrible speed and immense strength,
each with the least doubt about winning the battle,
locked in enmity like Suras and Asuras.

sa tasya vīrasya mahārathasya
dhanuṣmataḥ saṃyati sammatasya ।
ṡarapravēgaṃ vyahanatpravṛddhaḥ
cacāra mārgē piturapramēyaḥ ॥
Swelling to a huge size, the Vānara
of unimaginable (strength) moved
with ease in the track of his father
making waste of the speed of the arrows
of that bow-wielding Veera, a super-charioter,
who was well-regarded in battle

5.48.28 ஈ ததஸ்ஸராநாயததீக்ஷ்ணஸல்யாந்
ஸுபத்ரிண: காஞ்சநசித்ரபுங்காந் ।
முமோச வீர: பரவீரஹந்தா:
ஸுஸந்நதாந் வஜ்ரநிபாதவேகாந் ॥
tataṡṡarānāyatatīkṣṇaṡalyān
supatriṇaḥ kāñcanacitrapuṅkhān ।
mumōca vīraḥ paravīrahantāḥ
susannatān vajranipātavēgān ॥
Then that Veera, a slayer of the foe,
shot long, shapely, and sharp-tipped arrows
that were decorated with beautiful feathers
and splendid golden rings, which fell swiftly
with the impact of the thunderbolt.

5.48.29 ஈ ததஸ்து தத்ஸ்யந்தநநிஸ்ஸ்வநம் ச
ம்ருதங்கபேரீபடஹஸ்வநம் ச ।
விக்ருஷ்யமாணஸ்ய ச கார்முகஸ்ய
நிஸம்ய கோஷம் புநருத்பபாத ॥
tatastu tatsyandananissvanaṃ ca
mṛdaṅgabhērīpaṭahasvanaṃ ca ।
vikṛṣyamāṇasya ca kārmukasya
niṡamya ghōṣaṃ punarutpapāta ॥
Hearing the sound of the rumble of the chariot,
the din of Mṛdanga, kettle drum and Paṭaha
and the twang of bowstring as it was drawn,
the Vānara sprang up again. This Ṡlōka seems to be out of place, possibly due to a shuffle of the palm leaves over the course of time. This Ṡlōka would flow well if it is placed between the 20th and 21st Ṡlōkas.

vyavartata mahākapiḥ ।
haristasyābhilakṣyasya
mōghayanlakṣyasaṃgraham ॥
Quickly gliding in between the arrows,
the great Vānara made those shots of his,
who was very good at his aim,
fail in hitting their target.

புந: ஸமபிவர்தத ।

punaḥ samabhivartata ।
prasārya hastau hanumān
utpapātānilātmajaḥ ॥
Then again, Hanumān, the son of Vāyu,
placed himself straight
in the track of the arrows, only to
spring again the next moment, stretching his arms.
