தாம்ரவக்த்ரோ மஹாபல: ।
வஜ்ரதம்ஷ்ட்ரநகோ பீமோ
வைதேஹீமிதமப்ரவீத் ॥
hariḥ parvatasaṅkāṡaḥ
tāmravaktrō mahābalaḥ ।
vajradaṃṣṭranakhō bhīmō
vaidēhīmidamabravīt ॥
The mighty strong Vānara of red face,
his teeth and nails sharp like Vajra,
looking fiery and humongous like a mountain,
said these words to Vaidēhi:

ஸபர்வதவநோத்தேஸாம்
ஸாட்டப்ராகாரதோரணாம் ।
லங்காமிமாம் ஸநாதாம் வா
நயிதும் ஸக்திரஸ்தி மே ॥
saparvatavanōddēṡām
sāṭṭaprākāratōraṇām ।
laṅkāmimāṃ sanāthāṃ vā
nayituṃ ṡaktirasti mē ॥
I have the strength to carry off
this entire Laṅkā with its
mountainous and forest areas,
with its forts, ramparts and gateways,
along with its lord.

ததவஸ்தாப்யதாம் புத்தி:
அலம் தேவி விகாங்க்ஷயா ।
விஸோகம் குரு வைதேஹி
ராகவம் ஸஹலக்ஷ்மணம் ॥
tadavasthāpyatāṃ buddhiḥ
alaṃ dēvi vikāṅkṣayā ।
viṡōkaṃ kuru vaidēhi
rāghavaṃ sahalakṣmaṇam ॥
Hence, O Dēvi, make up your mind
and lay all your apprehensions to rest.
O Vaidēhi, free Rāghava and
Lakshmaṇa from their grief.

taṃ dṛṣṭvā bhīmasaṅkāṡam
uvāca janakātmajā ।
padmapatraviṡālākṣī
mārutasyaurasaṃ sutam ॥
Seeing that son of Vāyu
in that dreadful form,
the daughter of Janaka,
her eyes wide like lotus petals, said:

தவ ஸத்த்வம் பலம் சைவ
விஜாநாமி மஹாகபே ।
வாயோரிவ கதிம் சைவ

tava sattvaṃ balaṃ caiva
vijānāmi mahākapē ।
vāyōriva gatiṃ caiva
tējaṡcāgnērivādbhutam ॥
O great Vānara! I do know your strength and power,
and speed that rivals that of Vāyu,
and radiance that is amazing, like that of Agni.

பூமிமாகந்துமர்ஹதி ।

bhūmimāgantumarhati ।
udadhērapramēyasya
pāraṃ vānarapuṅgava ॥
How could any ordinary creature
have come to this place at all,
on the farther shore of the measureless
ocean, O bull among Vānaras!

ஜாநாமி கமநே ஸக்திம்
நயநே சாபி தே மம ।
அவஸ்யம் ஸம்ப்ரதார்யாஸு

jānāmi gamanē ṡaktim
nayanē cāpi tē mama ।
avaṡyaṃ sampradhāryāṡu
kāryasiddhirmahātmanaḥ ॥
I know the power of your speed
and your ability to carry me.
But we should carefully consider
how best the purpose of that Mahātma
might be served immediately.

அயுக்தம் து கபிஸ்ரேஷ்ட
மம கந்தும் த்வயாऽநக ।
வாயுவேகஸவேகஸ்ய
வேகோ மாம் மோஹயேத்தவ ॥
ayuktaṃ tu kapiṡrēṣṭha
mama gantuṃ tvayā'nagha ।
vāyuvēgasavēgasya
vēgō māṃ mōhayēttava ॥
I do not think I can go with you,
O best of Vānaras, O sinless one!
I will feel dizzy with your speed
that is equal to that of Vāyu!

அஹமாகாஸமாபந்நா
ஹ்யுபர்யுபரி ஸாகரம் ।
ப்ரபதேயம் ஹி தே ப்ருஷ்டாத்
பயாத்வேகேந கச்சத: ॥
ahamākāṡamāpannā
hyuparyupari sāgaram ।
prapatēyaṃ hi tē pṛṣṭhāt
bhayādvēgēna gacchataḥ ॥
Once I am in the sky at
a high altitude above the ocean,
and as you travel at a high speed,
I will fall off from your back out of sheer fright.

பதிதா ஸாகரே சாஹம்
திமிநக்ரஜஷாகுலே ।
பவேயமாஸு விவஸா
யாதஸாமந்நமுத்தமம் ॥

timinakrajhaṣākulē ।
bhavēyamāṡu vivaṡā
yādasāmannamuttamam ॥
Falling into the ocean
that is infested with whales,
crocodiles and big fish,
I would no more be in my control
and will become a good meal for
those aquatic creatures.

ந ச ஸக்ஷ்யே த்வயா ஸார்தம்
கந்தும் ஸத்ருவிநாஸந ।
கலத்ரவதி ஸந்தேஹ:

na ca ṡakṣyē tvayā sārdham
gantuṃ ṡatruvināṡana ।
kalatravati sandēhaḥ
tvayyapi syādasaṃṡayaḥ ॥
I cannot go with you, O destroyer of the foe,
for without a doubt, you will put yourself at risk
burdened with the responsibility of my safety.

ஹ்ரியமாணாம் து மாம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
ராக்ஷஸா பீமவிக்ரமா: ।

hriyamāṇāṃ tu māṃ dṛṣṭvā
rākṣasā bhīmavikramāḥ ।
anugacchēyurādiṣṭā
rāvaṇēna durātmanā ॥
Seeing me being carried off,
Rākshasas of terrible prowess
will be sent by the wicked Rāvaṇa in pursuit.

தைஸ்த்வம் பரிவ்ருதஸ்ஸூரை:
ஸூலமுத்கரபாணிபி: ।
பவேஸ்த்வம் ஸம்ஸயம் ப்ராப்தோ
மயா வீர கலத்ரவாந் ॥
taistvaṃ parivṛtaṡṡūraiḥ
ṡūlamudgarapāṇibhiḥ ।
bhavēstvaṃ saṃṡayaṃ prāptō
mayā vīra kalatravān ॥
Surrounded by those Sūras with
spears and clubs in their hands,
you yourself, O Veera, who have
to protect me, will fall in danger.

ஸாயுதா பஹவோ வ்யோம்நி
ராக்ஷஸாஸ்த்வம் நிராயுத: ।
கதம் ஸக்ஷ்யஸி ஸம்யாதும்
மாம் சைவ பரிரக்ஷிதும் ॥
sāyudhā bahavō vyōmni
rākṣasāstvaṃ nirāyudhaḥ ।
kathaṃ ṡakṣyasi saṃyātum
māṃ caiva parirakṣitum ॥
With many armed Rākshasas
pitted against you in the sky,
how would you be able to move forward
and at the same time protect me?

யுத்யமாநஸ்ய ரக்ஷோபி:
தவ தை: க்ரூரகர்மபி: ।
ப்ரபதேயம் ஹி தே ப்ருஷ்டாத்

yudhyamānasya rakṣōbhiḥ
tava taiḥ krūrakarmabhiḥ ।
prapatēyaṃ hi tē pṛṣṭhāt
bhayārtā kapisattama ॥
While you fight with those Rākshasas of cruel deeds,
O best of Vānaras, I would fall off
from your back out of sheer terror!
