    Sundara Kaanda Sargas 29

    Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 29
[This Sarga, like the previous one, which is set in long meter, though beautiful in its own right, is very likely unauthentic. Its content is a repeat of the last part of the Sarga 27.]
In this Sarga, Seetā sees many good omens, which assuage her sufferings and renew her strength.

    5.29.1 ஈ ததாகதாம் தாம் வ்யதிதாமநிந்திதாம்

    ஸுபாம் நிமித்தாநி ஸுபாநி பேஜிரே

    vyapētaharṣāṃ paridīnamānasām ।
    ṡubhāṃ nimittāni ṡubhāni bhējirē
    naraṃ ṡriyā juṣṭamivōpajīvinaḥ ॥
Just as those who enjoy living as dependents
gather around a person who becomes wealthy,
good omens came together to that
    auspicious and blemish-less lady
who was in such a dire situation
with all her joys wiped out and
    her mind extremely distressed.

    rājīvṛtaṃ kṛṣṇaviṡālaṡuklam ।
    prāspandataikaṃ nayanaṃ sukēṡyā
    mīnāhataṃ padmamivābhitāmram ॥
One of the eyes of that lady with lovely tresses,
the left one, black, white, wide and
beautiful with curved eye lashes fluttered a little,
like a red lotus rubbed against by a fish.

    parārthyakālāgarucandanārhaḥ ।

    Right then, her left shoulder,
which was beautiful, round and plump,
that once rested on her peerless beloved,
which deserved the best black Agaru and sandal,
also fluttered for quite a while.

    stayōrdvayōḥ samhatayōḥ sujātaḥ ।
    praspandamānaḥ punarūrurasyā

One of her two well-formed thighs that
    were pressed against each other,
plump like the trunk of an elephant,
    also fluttered, telling (her) that
Rāma was right in front of her.

And as she, with her beautiful figure, bright eyes
and teeth with sharp edges, stood there,
her lovely golden garment slipped a little bit.

    sambōdhitā prāgapi sādhu siddhaiḥ ।
    vātātapaklāntamiva praṇaṣṭaṃ

Prodded by these and other good omens,
which were known to forebode good times,
she of beautiful eyebrows felt elated,
like a seed that is all but lost,
dried up by heat and dry winds does,
    upon the fall of rain.

Her face, with its Bimba fruit like lips,
    beautiful eyes, eyebrows, curved eyelashes
and lovely white teeth, shone like
the moon emerging out of the eclipse by Rahu.

With her grief and fatigue gone,
    her sufferings assuaged and
    her strength renewed with joy,
that noble lady shone like the
    night of the waxing fortnight,
her face like the rising moon of cool rays.
