மலபங்கம் ப்ரவிஸ்யாஸு
மக்நஸ்தத்ர ஸ ராவண: ॥
sahasōtthāya saṃbhrāntō
bhayārtō madavihvalaḥ ।
unmatta iva digvāsā
durvākyaṃ pralapanbahu ।
durgandhaṃ dussahaṃ ghōram
timiraṃ narakōpamam ।
malapaṅkaṃ praviṡyāṡu
magnastatra sa rāvaṇaḥ ॥
He then got up quickly, bewildered, naked,
desolate, fearful, reeling under drink,
behaving like a lunatic and
uttering a stream of invectives.
Rāvaṇa then threw himself in a slush of excreta
that reeked with an intolerable stench and
drowned in it, in the darkness that resembled hell.

towards the direction of Yama,
with a cord tied around his neck.

Vibheeshaṇa was the only exception,
whom I saw, under a white umbrella,
clad in a white garment, wearing white garlands
and smeared in white sandal and other creams,
heralded by the booming sounds of
conch and kettle drums and
celebrated with song and dance.

caturbhissacivaiḥ sārdham
vaihāyasamupasthitaḥ ॥
Vibheeshaṇa got on a splendid elephant
with four tuskers, huge as a mountain,
its trumpet sounding like the thunder of a cloud.
He was in the sky along with four ministers.

along with its horses, elephants and chariots,
falling into the ocean,
with its towers and arches crumbling.

I saw in my dream this Laṅkā,
which is under the protection of Rāvaṇa,
being burnt down by a mighty strong Vānara,
an envoy of Rāma.

pītvā tailaṃ pranṛttāṡca
prahasantyō mahāsvanāḥ ।
laṅkāyāṃ bhasmarūkṣāyāṃ
sarvā rākṣasayōṣitaḥ ॥
While Laṅkā was reduced to a ghastly site of ashes,
all the Rākshasa women were drinking oil
and dancing and laughing, making loud noises.

All the bulls among Rākshasas such as Kumbhakarṇa
put on red clothes and plunged into a pool of cow dung.

sītāmāpnōti rāghavaḥ ।
ghātayētparamāmarṣī
yuṣmānsārthaṃ hi rākṣasaiḥ ॥
Get away! Get destroyed!
(It is certain that) Rāghava regains Seetā!
Enraged beyond imagination, he will
get you all killed along with the Rākshasas!

bhartsitāṃ tarjitāṃ vāpi
nānumaṃsyati rāghavaḥ ॥
Rāghava will not forgive (anyone)
frightening and threatening
his beloved and highly regarded wife,
who followed him to the Vana.

ētaddhi mama rōcatē ॥
Enough of your cruel utterings!
Let us strike a reconciliatory tone
and plead with Vaidēhi!
That is what I, personally, would like!

priyaṃ prāpnōtyanuttamam ॥
When a dream like this is seen while
a woman is grief-stricken, (it portends that)
she is bound to be relieved of all her sorrows
and the best of the best is bound to happen to her.

rākṣasyaḥ kiṃ vivakṣayā ।
rāghavāddhi bhayaṃ ghōram
rākṣasānāmupasthitam ॥
O Rākshasis! Let us plead with her
who is now very much frightened.
There should not be any debate over this!
Rākshasas have much to fear from Rāghava now!

alamēṣā paritrātum
rākṣasyō mahatō bhayāt ॥
If pled, O Rākshasis, she will certainly forgive!
Only she, Maithili, the daughter of Janaka
can save us from this great fear!

of the lord of Rākshasas
and the victory of Rāghava.

The bird nestled in its nest on the bough
is uttering comforting sounds again and again,
delivering a welcome address (to Rāghava)
and stirring up (Seetā) excitedly.

vānarēṇa tarasvinā ॥
I saw in my dream this Laṅkā,
which is under the protection of Rāvaṇa,
being burnt down by a mighty strong Vānara,
an envoy of Rāma.

pītvā tailaṃ pranṛttāṡca
prahasantyō mahāsvanāḥ ।
laṅkāyāṃ bhasmarūkṣāyāṃ
sarvā rākṣasayōṣitaḥ ॥
While Laṅkā was reduced to a ghastly site of ashes,
all the Rākshasa women were drinking oil
and dancing and laughing, making loud noises.

sarvē rākṣasapuṅgavāḥ ।
raktaṃ nivasanaṃ gṛhya
praviṣṭā gōmayahradē ॥
All the bulls among Rākshasas such as Kumbhakarṇa
put on red clothes and plunged into a pool of cow dung.

ஸீதாமாப்நோதி ராகவ: ।
காதயேத்பரமாமர்ஷீ

sītāmāpnōti rāghavaḥ ।
ghātayētparamāmarṣī
yuṣmānsārthaṃ hi rākṣasaiḥ ॥
Get away! Get destroyed!
(It is certain that) Rāghava regains Seetā!
Enraged beyond imagination, he will
get you all killed along with the Rākshasas!

vanavāsamanuvratām ।
bhartsitāṃ tarjitāṃ vāpi
nānumaṃsyati rāghavaḥ ॥
Rāghava will not forgive (anyone)
frightening and threatening
his beloved and highly regarded wife,
who followed him to the Vana.

abhiyācāma vaidēhīm
ētaddhi mama rōcatē ॥
Enough of your cruel utterings!
Let us strike a reconciliatory tone
and plead with Vaidēhi!
That is what I, personally, would like!

yasyāmēvaṃvidhaḥ svapnō
duḥkhitāyāṃ pradṛṡyatē ।
sā duḥkhairvividhairmuktā
priyaṃ prāpnōtyanuttamam ॥
When a dream like this is seen while
a woman is grief-stricken, (it portends that)
she is bound to be relieved of all her sorrows
and the best of the best is bound to happen to her.

ராக்ஷஸ்ய: கிம் விவக்ஷயா ।

rākṣasyaḥ kiṃ vivakṣayā ।
rāghavāddhi bhayaṃ ghōram
rākṣasānāmupasthitam ॥
O Rākshasis! Let us plead with her
who is now very much frightened.
There should not be any debate over this!
Rākshasas have much to fear from Rāghava now!

மைதிலீ ஜநகாத்மஜா ।
அலமேஷா பரித்ராதும்

maithilī janakātmajā ।
alamēṣā paritrātum
rākṣasyō mahatō bhayāt ॥
If pled, O Rākshasis, she will certainly forgive!
Only she, Maithili, the daughter of Janaka
can save us from this great fear!

I do not see even a single imperfection,
even the minutest of the minutest,
on any limb of this wide-eyed one.

Even this imperfection in her complexion,
I think, is because of the grief this princess,
who deserves celestial joys and not grief, is in.

I see that Vaidēhi is about to
realize her cherished wish,
and see the imminent destruction
of the lord of Rākshasas
and the victory of Rāghava.

seems to be twitching, foreboding that
she is about to hear some great news.

dakṣiṇāyā hyadakṣiṇaḥ ।
akasmādēva vaidēhyā
bāhurēkaḥ prakampatē ॥
The left arm alone, of this capable lady Vaidēhi,
seems to quiver a little with joy, all of a sudden.

vēpamānaḥ sūcayati
rāghavaṃ purataḥ sthitam ॥
And her left thigh, par excellence,
which resembles the trunk of an elephant,
is trembling as if Rāghava is
right in front (of her).

pakṣī ca ṡākhānilayaṃ praviṣṭaḥ
punaḥ punaṡcōttamasāntvavādī ।
susvāgataṃ nācamudīrayāvaḥ
punaḥ punaṡcōdayatīva hṛṣṭaḥ ॥
The bird nestled in its nest on the bough
is uttering comforting sounds again and again,
delivering a welcome address (to Rāghava)
and stirring up (Seetā) excitedly.

ஸுந்தரகாண்டே ஸப்தவிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க:॥
