Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 23
In this Sarga, the Rākshasis surrounding Seetā extoll the strength, power, riches, greatness and lineage of Rāvaṇa and try to coerce Seetā to become the wife of Rāvaṇa.

ராவண: ஸத்ருராவண: ।
ஸந்திஸ்ய ச தத: ஸர்வா
ராக்ஷஸீர்நிர்ஜகாம ஹ ॥
ityuktvā maithilīṃ rājā
rāvaṇaḥ ṡatrurāvaṇaḥ ।
sandiṡya ca tataḥ sarvā
rākṣasīrnirjagāma ha ॥
After speaking thus to Maithili
and instructing all the Rākshasis,
Rāvaṇa, the king who made his enemies wail, left.

5.23.2 ஈ நிஷ்க்ராந்தே ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரே து
புநரந்த:புரம் கதே ।
ராக்ஷஸ்யோ பீமரூபாஸ்தா:
ஸீதாம் ஸமபிதுத்ருவு: ॥
niṣkrāntē rākṣasēndrē tu
punarantaḥpuraṃ gatē ।
rākṣasyō bhīmarūpāstāḥ
sītāṃ samabhidudruvuḥ ॥
As soon as the Lord of Rākshasas left
and went back to his private quarters again,
the Rākshasis of frightful appearance rushed to Seetā.

ராக்ஷஸ்ய: க்ரோதமூர்சிதா: ।
பரம் பருஷயா வாசா
வைதேஹீமிதமப்ருவந் ॥
tataḥ sītāmupāgamya
rākṣasyaḥ krōdhamūrchitāḥ ।
paraṃ paruṣayā vācā
vaidēhīmidamabruvan ॥
After reaching Seetā, those Rākshasis
who were outraged and had lost their senses,
said these harshest of words to Vaidēhi:

ராவணஸ்ய மஹாத்மந: ।
தஸக்ரீவஸ்ய பார்யா த்வம்
ஸீதே ந பஹுமந்யஸே ॥
paulastyasya variṣṭhasya
rāvaṇasya mahātmanaḥ ।
daṡagrīvasya bhāryā tvam
sītē na bahumanyasē ॥
O Seetā! You do not appreciate what an honor
it is to be the wife of the mighty
Ten-necked Rāvaṇa, the foremost
among the descendants of Pulastya.

ராக்ஷஸீ வாக்யமப்ரவீத் ।
ஆமந்த்ய்ர க்ரோதாதாம்ராக்ஷீ
ஸீதாம் கரதலோதரீம் ॥
tatastvēkajaṭā nāma
rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ।
āmantyra krōdhātāmrākṣī
sītāṃ karatalōdarīm ॥
Then a Rākshasi by name Ēkajaṭā
shouted at Seetā of slender waist saying these words,
with her eyes turned red with anger:

சதுர்தோ ய: ப்ரஜாபதி: ।
மாநஸோ ப்ரஹ்மண: புத்ர:
புலஸ்த்ய இதி விஸ்ருத: ॥
prajāpatīnāṃ ṣaṇṇāṃ tu
caturthō yaḥ prajāpatiḥ ।
mānasō brahmaṇaḥ putraḥ
pulastya iti viṡrutaḥ ॥
The fourth among the six Prajāpatis,
born out of mere intention of Brahma,
is famously known as Pulastya.

5.23.7 ஊ புலஸ்த்யஸ்ய து தேஜஸ்வீ
மஹர்ஷிர்மாநஸ: ஸுத: ।
நாம்நா ஸ விஸ்ரவா நாம
ப்ரஜாபதிஸமப்ரப: ।
தஸ்ய புத்ரோ விஸாலாக்ஷி
ராவண: ஸத்ருராவண: ॥
pulastyasya tu tējasvī
maharṣirmānasaḥ sutaḥ ।
nāmnā sa viṡravā nāma
prajāpatisamaprabhaḥ ।
tasya putrō viṡālākṣi
rāvaṇaḥ ṡatrurāvaṇaḥ ॥
Viṡravasu, a Maharshi of supreme radiance,
who rivaled the Prajāpatis in his brilliance,
was born from the mere intention of Pulastya.
O wide eyed one! Rāvaṇa, who makes
his enemies wail, is his son!

5.23.8 ஈ தஸ்ய த்வம் ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரஸ்ய
பார்யா பவிதுமர்ஹஸி ।
மயோக்தம் சாருஸர்வாங்கி:
வாக்யம் கிம் நாநுமந்யஸே ॥
tasya tvaṃ rākṣasēndrasya
bhāryā bhavitumarhasi ।
mayōktaṃ cārusarvāṅgiḥ
vākyaṃ kiṃ nānumanyasē ॥
Your every limb is beautiful!
(know that) you deserve to be his wife.
Why are you ignoring what I am saying?

ராக்ஷஸீ வாக்யமப்ரவீத் ।
விவர்த்ய நயநே கோபாத்
மர்ஜாரஸத்ருஸேக்ஷணா ॥
tatō harijaṭā nāma
rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ।
vivartya nayanē kōpāt
marjārasadṛṡēkṣaṇā ॥
Then, another Rākshasi by name Harijaṭā
said these words, rolling her eyes in anger,
which resembled those of a cat:

5.23.10 ஈ யேந தேவாஸ்த்ரயஸ்த்ரிம்ஸத்
தேவராஜஸ்ச நிர்ஜிதா: ।
தஸ்ய த்வம் ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரஸ்ய
பார்யா பவிதுமர்ஹஸி ॥
yēna dēvāstrayastriṃṡat
dēvarājaṡca nirjitāḥ ।
tasya tvaṃ rākṣasēndrasya
bhāryā bhavitumarhasi ॥
You should become the wife of the
Lord of Rākshasas who vanquished the
thirty three Dēvas and their king.

ராக்ஷஸீ க்ரோதமூர்சிதா ।
பர்த்ஸயந்தீ ததா கோரம்
இதம் வசநமப்ரவீத் ॥
tatastu praghasā nāma
rākṣasī krōdhamūrchitā ।
bhartsayantī tadā ghōram
idaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥
Then a Rākshasi by name Praghasa,
who lost herself completely to anger,
said these words, instilling terrible fear:

5.23.12 ஈ வீர்யோத்ஸிக்தஸ்ய ஸூரஸ்ய
ஸம்க்ராமே ந நிவர்திந: ।
பலிநோ வீர்யயுக்தஸ்ய
பார்யாத்வம் கிம் ந லப்ஸ்யஸே ॥
vīryōtsiktasya ṡūrasya
samgrāmē na nivartinaḥ ।
balinō vīryayuktasya
bhāryātvaṃ kiṃ na lapsyasē ॥
Why do you not want to be the wife
of a Ṡūra of immense strength
who never turned his back in a battle,
and who is endowed with valor, in which he revels?

5.23.13 ஈ ப்ரியாம் பஹுமதாம் பார்யாம்
த்யக்த்வா ராஜா மஹாபல: ।
ஸர்வாஸாம் ச மஹாபாகாம்
த்வாமுபைஷ்யதி ராவண: ॥
priyāṃ bahumatāṃ bhāryām
tyaktvā rājā mahābalaḥ ।
sarvāsāṃ ca mahābhāgām
tvāmupaiṣyati rāvaṇaḥ ॥
Rāvaṇa, the king of immense strength, will abdicate
even his beloved and most regarded wife,
who is the most fortunate of all, and cleave to you.

5.23.14 ஈ ஸம்ருத்தம் ஸ்த்ரீஸஹஸ்ரேண
நாநாரத்நோபஸோபிதம் ।
அந்த:புரம் ஸமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய
த்வாமுபைஷ்யதி ராவண: ॥
samṛddhaṃ strīsahasrēṇa
nānāratnōpaṡōbhitam ।
antaḥpuraṃ samutsṛjya
tvāmupaiṣyati rāvaṇaḥ ॥
Rāvaṇa will even abandon his harem,
rich with thousands of women
and a whole variety of precious stones
to devote himself to you.
5.23.15 அ
5.23.15 ஆ அந்யா து விகடா நாம
ராக்ஷஸீ வாக்யமப்ரவீத் ॥
anyā tu vikaṭā nāma
rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ॥
Yet another Rākshasi, by name Vikaṭā, said these words:

5.23.16 ஆ அஸக்ருத்தேவதா யுத்தே
நாககந்தர்வதாநவா: ।
நிர்ஜிதா: ஸமரே யேந
ஸ தே பார்ஸ்வமுபாகத: ॥
asakṛddēvatā yuddhē
nāgagandharvadānavāḥ ।
nirjitāḥ samarē yēna
sa tē pārṡvamupāgataḥ ॥
He who defeated, in many a fight and battle,
Dēvas, Nāgas, Gandharvas, and Dānavas
has come to stand by your side on his own!

5.23.17 ஆ தஸ்ய ஸர்வஸம்ருத்தஸ்ய
ராவணஸ்ய மஹாத்மந: ।
கிமத்ய ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரஸ்ய
பார்யாத்வம் நேச்சஸேऽதமே ॥
tasya sarvasamṛddhasya
rāvaṇasya mahātmanaḥ ।
kimadya rākṣasēndrasya
bhāryātvaṃ nēcchasē'dhamē ॥
O base one! Why do you not like to be the wife
of Rāvaṇa, the Mahātma, the lord of Rākshasas,
who has everything in plenty?
5.23.17 இ
5.23.17 ஈ ததஸ்து துர்முகீ நாம
ராக்ஷஸீ வாக்யமப்ரவீத் ॥
tatastu durmukhī nāma
rākṣasī vākyamabravīt ॥
Then another Rākshasi, by name Durmukhi, said these words:

5.23.18 ஈ யஸ்ய ஸூர்யோ ந தபதி
பீதோ யஸ்ய ச மாருத: ।
ந வாதி ஸ்மாயதாபாங்கே
கிம் த்வம் தஸ்ய ந திஷ்டஸி ॥
yasya sūryō na tapati
bhītō yasya ca mārutaḥ ।
na vāti smāyatāpāṅgē
kiṃ tvaṃ tasya na tiṣṭhasi ॥
O you of wide eyes! Why don’t you accept him,
afraid of whom the sun would not burn hot
and the wind would not blow strong?

தஸ்ய நைர்ருதராஜஸ்ய
ராஜராஜஸ்ய பாமிநி ।
கிம் த்வம் ந குருஷே புத்திம்
பார்யார்தே ராவணஸ்ய ஹி ॥
puṣpavṛṣṭiṃ ca taravō
mumucuryasya vai bhayāt ।
ṡailāṡca subhru pānīyam
jaladāṡca yadēcchati ।
tasya nairṛtarājasya
rājarājasya bhāmini ।
kiṃ tvaṃ na kuruṣē buddhim
bhāryārthē rāvaṇasya hi ॥
O pretty dame with beautiful eyebrows!
Why do you not want to be the wife of Rāvaṇa,
the king of kings, the king of Rākshasas,
scared of whom the trees rain showers of flowers
and on the whims and fancies of whom
mountains and clouds release waters?

கதிதம் ஸாது பாமிநி ।
க்ருஹாண ஸுஸ்மிதே வாக்யம்

sādhu tē tattvatō dēvi
kathitaṃ sādhu bhāmini ।
gṛhāṇa susmitē vākyam
anyathā na bhaviṣyasi ॥
O lovely lady of beautiful smile!
Accept this wholesome advice
that is given considering everything,
or else, you will not stay alive!
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
ஸுந்தரகாண்டே த்ரயோவிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க:॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
sundarakāṇḍē trayōviṃṡassargaḥ॥
