Sundara Kaanda Sarga 15
Sundara Kaanda - Sarga 15
In this Sarga, perched on the Ṡiṃṡupa tree, Hanumān scans the entire beautiful Aṡōka Vana. He then sees a worn-out woman surrounded by Rākshasis, like a fawn separated from her kind and hemmed in by a pack of hounds.
Hanumān, based on the resemblance of her yellow garment to the upper garment that had been dropped on the mountain, and the match of her ornaments to Rāma’s description of the same, and based on her plight, concludes that she must be Seetā.
His heart is wrenched at the plight of Seetā and goes in for praises for Rāma, who could manage to live even after losing a dear, beloved and faithful wife like her.

The bull among Vānaras saw, not too far from there,
in the middle of that Aṡōka Vana,
a tall mansion that was like a second Gandhamādana,
effusing sweet scents like the king of the mountains
and white, like Kailāsa.
It had a thousand pillars
and its steps were studded with corals
and its platforms were made of gold purified in fire.
Clean and dazzling in its splendor,
it seemed to steal the eyes of the beholder.
It was so tall that it seemed to rub against the sky.

Then he saw a woman in a pitiful state
sighing repeatedly, surrounded by Rākshasis
wrapped in an unclean piece of cloth
and worn out by fasting,
albeit looking serene, like the digit of the moon
at the beginning of the waxing fortnight.
