In this Sarga, Hanumān sees the huge, opulent and well-guarded mansion of Rāvaṇa and also the houses of many other Rākshasa chiefs.

lāghavēna samanvitaḥ ॥
He who could take any form at will,
felt very much dejected (not finding Seetā)
in any of those towers.
But commanding all his skills,
he continued to go around Laṅkā (searching for her).

guarded by frightful Rākshasas,
like a great Vana by the lions.

It had beautiful arches treated with silver
and decorated with gold in a variety of patterns.
It had beautiful and amazing doorways and enclosures.

It was crowded with mahouts mounted on elephants,
heroic warriors who knew no fatigue,
mounted on horses that could be slayed by no one,
and those who rode on chariots.

It was ever thronged with beautiful chariots
covered with the skin of lion and tiger
and treated with ivory, silver and gold,
raising a din of their own kind.

thousands of various birds and beasts
that were magnificent and a feast to the eye.

who were trained well as sentries.
It was filled with distinguished women of great charm.

reminded one of the rhythm of the ocean.

it was teeming with great people (Rākshasas)
as if it were a Vana full of lions.

the booming of conch-shells.
Daily worship was performed there along with
offerings in fire on special occasions.
It was revered at all times by the Rākshasas.

The great Vānara saw that
residence of the mighty one,
filled with splendid gems and
furnished with jeweled fittings,
magnificent like an ocean
and resounding as if it were one.

rāvaṇasya samīpataḥ ॥
The great Vānara thought that,
dazzling in its splendor and crowded with elephants,
horses and chariots, it was an ornament for Laṅkā.
He then moved about there,
very close to where Rāvaṇa was.

The Vānara went around
with no fear whatsoever,
going from one house of
the Rākshasas to another,
checking out the pleasure
gardens as well as mansions.

The valiant one of great speed
jumped down from the house of Prahasta
and on to the house of Mahāpārṡwa.

The great Vānara went jumping,
on to the houses of Mahōdaya, Virūpāksha,
Vidyujjihva, Vidyunmāli and Vajradaṃshṭra.

That eminent Vānara then went
to the houses of Jambumāli and Sumāli.
The great Vānara went jumping
from the mansion of Raṡmikēta to
that of Sūryakēta and to that of Vajrakāya.

prahastasya nivēṡanam ।
tatō'nyatpupluvē vēṡma
mahāpārṡvasya vīryavān ॥
The valiant one of great speed
jumped down from the house of Prahasta
and on to the house of Mahāpārṡwa.

atha mēghapratīkāṡam
kumbhakarṇanivēṡanam ।
vibhīṣaṇasya ca tadā
pupluvē sa mahākapiḥ ॥
The great Vānara then jumped on to
the house of Kumbhakarṇa which was like a cloud
and then on to that of Vibheeshaṇa.

5.6.20 ஆ மஹோதரஸ்ய ச க்ருஹம்
விரூபாக்ஷஸ்ய சைவ ஹி ।

வித்யுந்மாலேஸ்ததைவ ச ।
வஜ்ரதம்ஷ்ட்ரஸ்ய ச ததா
புப்லுவே ஸ மஹாகபி: ॥
mahōdarasya ca gṛham
virūpākṣasya caiva hi ।
vidyujjihvasya bhavanam
vidyunmālēstathaiva ca ।
vajradaṃṣṭrasya ca tathā
pupluvē sa mahākapiḥ ॥
The great Vānara went jumping,
on to the houses of Mahōdaya, Virūpāksha,
Vidyujjihva, Vidyunmāli and Vajradaṃshṭra.

ஸாரணஸ்ய ச தீமத: ।
ததா சேந்த்ரஜிதோ வேஸ்ம

ṡukasya ca mahātējāḥ
sāraṇasya ca dhīmataḥ ।
tathā cēndrajitō vēṡma
jagāma hariyūthapaḥ ॥
The Vānara warrior of immense power
then went to the houses of
Ṡuka and the sagacious Sāraṇa
and to that of Indrajit.

ஜகாம ஹரிஸத்தம: ।
ரஸ்மிகேதோஸ்ச பவநம்
ஸூர்யகேதோஸ்ததைவ ச ।
வஜ்ரகாயஸ்ய ச ததா
புப்லுவே ஸ மஹாகபி: ॥
jambumālēḥ sumālēṡca
jagāma harisattamaḥ ।
raṡmikētōṡca bhavanam
sūryakētōstathaiva ca ।
vajrakāyasya ca tathā
pupluvē sa mahākapiḥ ॥
That eminent Vānara then went
to the houses of Jambumāli and Sumāli.
The great Vānara went jumping
from the mansion of Raṡmikēta to
that of Sūryakēta and to that of Vajrakāya.
