4.28.46 நரைர்நரேந்த்ரா இவ பர்வதேந்த்ரா:
ஸுரேந்த்ரதத்தை: பவநோபநீதை: ।
கநாம்புகும்பைரபிஷிச்யமாநா
ரூபம் ஸ்ரியம் ஸ்வாமிவ தர்ஸயந்தி ॥
narairnarēndrā iva parvatēndrāḥ
surēndradattai: pavanōpanītaiḥ ।
ghanāmbukumbhairabhiṣicyamānā
rūpaṃ ṡriyaṃ svāmiva darṡayanti ॥
The mountains display their glory
getting a bath with the waters,
sent in pots of clouds by the
lord of Dēvas and carried by the wind,
like kings do when they get
a bath of coronation from their subjects.
4.28.47 கநோபகூடம் ககநம் ந தாரா
ந பாஸ்கரோ தர்ஸநமப்யுபைதி ।
நவைர்ஜலௌகைர்தரணீ வித்ருப்தா
தமோ விலிப்தா ந திஸ: ப்ரகாஸா: ॥
ghanōpagūḍhaṃ gaganaṃ na tārā
na bhāskarō darṡanamabhyupaiti ।
navairjalaughairdharaṇī vitṛptā
tamō viliptā na diṡaḥ prakāṡāḥ ॥
Covered by the clouds, the sky
reveals neither the stars nor the sun.
With the torrents of fresh water, the earth is satiated.
The cardinals painted by darkness
are indistinguishable from one another.
4.28.48 மஹாந்தி கூடாநி மஹீதராணாம்
தாராபிதௌதாந்யதிகம் விபாந்தி ।
மஹாப்ரமாணைர்விபுலை: ப்ரபாதை:
முக்தாகலாபைரிவ லம்பமாநை: ॥
mahānti kūṭāni mahīdharāṇāṃ
dhārābhidhautānyadhikaṃ vibhānti ।
mahāpramāṇairvipulaiḥ prapātaiḥ
muktākalāpairiva lambamānaiḥ ॥
The magnanimous crests of the mountains shine splendidly,
washed clean by the torrents of rain
and with the tall and giant waterfalls
(adorning them) like long garlands of pearl-clusters.
4.28.49 ஸைலோபலப்ரஸ்கலமாநவேகா:
ஸைலோத்தமாநாம் விபுலா: ப்ரபாதா: ।
குஹாஸு ஸந்நாதிதபர்ஹிணாஸு
ஹாரா விகீர்யந்த இவாவபாந்தி ॥
ṡailōpalapraskhalamānavēgāḥ
ṡailōttamānāṃ vipulāḥ prapātāḥ ।
guhāsu sannāditabarhiṇāsu
hārā vikīryanta ivāvabhānti ॥
The huge mountain cascades
bouncing off the mountain boulders
and entering the caves that are
reverberating with the cawing of peacocks
look like pearl garlands strewn around.
4.28.50 ஸீக்ரப்ரவேகா விபுலா: ப்ரபாதா:
நிர்தௌதஸ்ருங்கோபதலா கிரீணாம் ।
முக்தாகலாபப்ரதிமா: பதந்தோ
மஹாகுஹோத்ஸங்கதலைர்த்ரியந்தே ॥
ṡīghrapravēgā vipulāḥ prapātāḥ
nirdhautaṡṛṅgōpatalā girīṇām ।
muktākalāpapratimāḥ patantō
mahāguhōtsaṅgatalairdhriyantē ॥
The huge caverns are enjoy wearing
the huge rapids and cascades
that, having washed clean the mountain crests,
fall on them like garlands of pearls.
4.28.51 ஸுரதாமர்தவிச்சிந்நா:
ஸ்வர்கஸ்த்ரீஹாரமௌக்திகா: ।
பதந்தி சாதுலா திக்ஷு
தோயதாராஸ்ஸமந்தத: ॥
suratāmardavicchinnāḥ
svargastrīhāramauktikāḥ ।
patanti cātulā dikṣu
tōyadhārāssamantataḥ ॥
The cascades roll down everywhere, in all directions,
as if they are bunches of pearls
from the garlands broken during
the love-play of celestial women.
4.28.52 நிலீயமாநைர்விஹகை:
நிமீலத்பிஸ்ச பங்கஜை: ।
விகஸந்த்யா ச மாலத்யா
கதோऽஸ்தம் ஜ்ஞாயதே ரவி: ॥
nilīyamānairvihagaiḥ
nimīladbhiṡca paṅkajaiḥ ।
vikasantyā ca mālatyā
gatō'staṃ jñāyatē raviḥ ॥
That the sun is setting is known only from
the birds settling down in their nests,
lotuses closing on themselves and
the Mālati vines blooming.
4.28.53 வ்ருத்தா யாத்ரா நரேந்த்ராணாம்
ஸேநா ப்ரதிநிவர்ததே ।
வைராணி சைவ மார்காஸ்ச
ஸலிலேந ஸமீக்ருதா: ॥
vṛttā yātrā narēndrāṇām
sēnā pratinivartatē ।
vairāṇi caiva mārgāṡca
salilēna samīkṛtāḥ ॥
The expeditions of the kings
became disrupted along the way.
The water leveled their hostilities
just as it did the pathways.
4.28.54 மாஸி ப்ரோஷ்டபதே ப்ரஹ்ம
ப்ராஹ்மணாநாம் விவக்ஷதாம் ।
அயமத்யாயஸமய:
ஸாமகாநாமுபஸ்தித: ॥
māsi prōṣṭhapadē brahma
brāhmaṇānāṃ vivakṣatām ।
ayamadhyāyasamayaḥ
sāmagānāmupasthitaḥ ॥
This is Bhadrapada month, the time for
the Brāhmaṇas, students of Sāma Vēda,
to start their recitations.
4.28.55 நிவ்ருத்தகர்மாயதநோ
நூநம் ஸஞ்சிதஸஞ்சய: ।
ஆஷாடீமப்யுபகதோ
பரத: கோஸலாதிப: ॥
nivṛttakarmāyatanō
nūnaṃ sañcitasañcayaḥ ।
āṣāḍhīmabhyupagatō
bharataḥ kōsalādhipaḥ ॥
Bharata, the lord of Kōsala,
would certainly have readied himself
for (the season that starts after) Āshaḍha,
finishing household activities and
securing the necessary provisions.
4.28.56 நூநமாபூர்யமாணாயா:
ஸரவ்யா வர்ததே ரய: ।
மாம் ஸமீக்ஷ்ய ஸமாயாந்தம்
அயோத்யாயா இவ ஸ்வந: ॥
nūnamāpūryamāṇāyāḥ
saravyā vardhatē rayaḥ ।
māṃ samīkṣya samāyāntam
ayōdhyāyā iva svanaḥ ॥
The river Sarayu, swelling with waters,
must be rushing with the roar and din
(that could only be expected) of Ayōdhyā
upon seeing me come (back).
4.28.57 இமாஸ்ஸ்பீதகுணா வர்ஷா:
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ஸுகமஸ்நுதே ।
விஜிதாரி: ஸதாரஸ்ச
ராஜ்யே மஹதி ச ஸ்தித: ॥
imāssphītaguṇā varṣāḥ
sugrīvassukhamaṡnutē ।
vijitāriḥ sadāraṡca
rājyē mahati ca sthitaḥ ॥
Sugreeva, with his foe defeated, wife back
and established in the mighty kingdom,
should be very happy with these bountiful showers.
4.28.58 அஹம் து ஹ்ருததாரஸ்ச
ராஜ்யாச்ய மஹதஸ்ச்யுத: ।
நதீகூலமிவ க்லிந்நம்
அவஸீதாமி லக்ஷ்மண ॥
ahaṃ tu hṛtadāraṡca
rājyācya mahataṡcyutaḥ ।
nadīkūlamiva klinnam
avasīdāmi lakṣmaṇa ॥
But I, O Lakshmaṇa, with my wife abducted,
fallen away from a great kingdom,
am sinking away like a soaked river bank.
4.28.59 ஸோகஸ்ச மம விஸ்தீர்ணோ
வர்ஷாஸ்ச ப்ருஸதுர்கமா: ।
ராவணஸ்ச மஹாந் ஸத்ரு:
அபாரம் ப்ரதிபாதி மே ॥
ṡōkaṡca mama vistīrṇō
varṣāṡca bhṛṡadurgamāḥ ।
rāvaṇaṡca mahān ṡatruḥ
apāraṃ pratibhāti mē ॥
My grief that finds no end,
these rains that are heavy,
and Rāvaṇa who is a mighty foe,
seem to me to be insurmountable!
4.28.60 அயாத்ராம் சைவ த்ருஷ்ட்வேமாம்
மார்காம்ஸ்ச ப்ருஸதுர்கமாந் ।
ப்ரணதே சைவ ஸுக்ரீவே
ந மயா கிஞ்சிதீரிதம் ॥
ayātrāṃ caiva dṛṣṭvēmām
mārgāṃṡca bhṛṡadurgamān ।
praṇatē caiva sugrīvē
na mayā kiñcidīritam ॥
Seeing these pathways quite impassable
for making any expedition,
I had to but keep quiet,
even though Sugreeva is
very much at my beck and call.
4.28.61 அபி சாதிபரிக்லிஷ்டம்
சிராத்தாரைஸ்ஸமாகதம் ।
ஆத்மகார்யகரீயஸ்த்வாத்
வக்தும் நேச்சாமி வாநரம் ॥
api cātiparikliṣṭam
cirāddāraissamāgatam ।
ātmakāryagarīyastvāt
vaktuṃ nēcchāmi vānaram ॥
I did not feel like pressing upon that Vānara,
as he was just reunited with his wife
after a long period of hardships,
and also as my task is not simple by any means.
4.28.62 ஸ்வயமேவ ஹி விஸ்ரம்ய
ஜ்ஞாத்வா காலமுபாகதம் ।
உபகாரம் ச ஸுக்ரீவோ
வேத்ஸ்யதே நாத்ர ஸம்ஸய: ॥
svayamēva hi viṡramya
jñātvā kālamupāgatam ।
upakāraṃ ca sugrīvō
vētsyatē nātra saṃṡayaḥ ॥
After getting enough rest, Sugreeva himself
will know when it is time to pay back
the help he received, without a doubt.
4.28.63 தஸ்மாத்காலப்ரதீக்ஷோऽஹம்
ஸ்திதோऽஸ்மி ஸுபலக்ஷண ।
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ய நதீநாம் ச
ப்ரஸாதமநுபாலயந் ॥
tasmātkālapratīkṣō'ham
sthitō'smi ṡubhalakṣaṇa ।
sugrīvasya nadīnāṃ ca
prasādamanupālayan ॥
Hence, O you of auspicious marks,
I shall (patiently) wait till it is time
for the grace of Sugreeva
as well as for the grace of rivers.
4.28.64 உபகாரேண வீரஸ்து
ப்ரதீகாரேண யுஜ்யதே ।
அக்ருதஜ்ஞோऽப்ரதிக்ருதோ
ஹந்தி ஸத்த்வவதாம் மந: ॥
upakārēṇa vīrastu
pratīkārēṇa yujyatē ।
akṛtajñō'pratikṛtō
hanti sattvavatāṃ manaḥ ॥
A Veera always pays back the favor he has received;
those who do not remember or reciprocate
will certainly hurt the feelings of good men. These three Ṡlōkas are same as Ṡlōkas 45, 46 and 47 of Sarga 27.
4.28.65 அதைவமுக்த: ப்ரணிதாய லக்ஷ்மண:
க்ருதாஞ்ஜலிஸ்தத்ப்ரதிபூஜ்ய பாஷிதம் ।
உவாச ராமம் ஸ்வபிராமதர்ஸநம்
ப்ரதர்ஸயந்தர்ஸநமாத்மநஸ்ஸுபம் ॥
athaivamuktaḥ praṇidhāya lakṣmaṇaḥ
kṛtāñjalistatpratipūjya bhāṣitam ।
uvāca rāmaṃ svabhirāmadarṡanaṃ
pradarṡayandarṡanamātmanaṡṡubham ॥
Lakshmaṇa, thus told,
joining his palms in reverence,
accepted, with due regard, what had been said.
Showing his good feelings in his eyes,
he said to Rāma of charming looks:
4.28.66 யதோக்தமேதத்தவ ஸர்வமீப்ஸிதம்
நரேந்த்ர கர்தா நசிராத்தரீஸ்வர: ।
ஸரத்ப்ரதீக்ஷ: க்ஷமதாமிமம் பவாந்
ஜலப்ரபாதம் ரிபுநிக்ரஹே த்ருத: ॥
yathōktamētattava sarvamīpsitaṃ
narēndra kartā nacirāddharīṡvaraḥ ।
ṡaratpratīkṣaḥ kṣamatāmimaṃ bhavān
jalaprapātaṃ ripunigrahē dhṛtaḥ ॥
O lord of men! The lord of Vānaras
will, not too long from now,
do all that you wish and said.
May you hold yourself patiently
till these torrential rains come to an end.
Please wait for the arrival of post-monsoon season,
fully resolved to destroy the foe.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே அஷ்டாவிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
kiṣkindhākāṇḍē aṣṭāviṃṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the twenty eighth Sarga
in Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
