ṡailēndrakūṭākṛtisannikāṡāḥ ।
garjanti mēghāḥ samudīrṇanādāḥ
mattā gajēndrā iva saṃyugasthāḥ ॥
With lightning for banners and rows of cranes for garlands,
clouds as huge as mountain-crests roar explosively
like tuskers in rut on the battlefield.

vanāni nirvṛṣṭavalāhakāni
paṡyāparāhṇēṣvadhikaṃ vibhānti ॥
Look at these Vanas
splendidly shining in the afternoons
where the clouds emptied their water,
satiating the swards and
sending the peacocks in a riot of dance.

mahatsu ṡṛṅgēṣu mahīdharāṇāṃ

The rumbling clouds,
on which the cranes attend,
carry the heavy loads of water,
resting from time to time
on the huge crests of the mountain.

vātāvadhūtā varapauṇḍarīkī

The joyous cranes, impassioned
at the (sight of) the clouds
fly everywhere in rows.
They look splendid as if they are
garlands of supremely white lotuses
hanging form the sky swayed by the breeze.
