Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 15
In this Sarga, Vāli comes out of the inner quarters annoyed by the roar of Sugreeva. Tārā tells him that she feels anxious and suspicious about Sugreeva returning to fight with such arrogance and zest. She expresses her apprehension that he might have got some additional help.
She also tells him that she heard from Aṅgada that Rāma and Lakshmaṇa, the princes of Ayōdhyā have come to help Sugreeva. She advises Vāli to install Sugreeva, his younger brother, and the best of his kin, as heir-apparent and seek the friendship of Rāma. Vāli, driven by his fate does not listen to her.
4.15.1 அத தஸ்ய நிநாதம் தம்
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ய மஹாத்மந: ।
ஸுஸ்ராவாந்த: புர கதோ
வாலீ ப்ராதுரமர்ஷண: ॥
atha tasya ninādaṃ tam
sugrīvasya mahātmanaḥ ।
ṡuṡrāvāntaḥ pura gatō
vālī bhrāturamarṣaṇaḥ ॥
Vāli, who was in the inner quarters,
was annoyed on hearing that strident shout of
his brother, Sugreeva, the Mahātma.
4.15.2 ஸ்ருத்வா து தஸ்ய நிநதம்
ஸர்வபூதப்ரகம்பநம் ।
மதஸ்சைகபதே நஷ்ட:
க்ரோதஸ்சாபதிதோ மஹாந் ॥
ṡrutvā tu tasya ninadam
sarvabhūtaprakampanam ।
madaṡcaikapadē naṣṭaḥ
krōdhaṡcāpatitō mahān ॥
That roar, which made every creature tremble,
dissipated his inebriation in an instant
and aroused a great wrath.
4.15.3 ஸ து ரோஷபரீதாங்கோ
வாலீ ஸ கநகப்ரப: ।
உபரக்த இவாதித்ய:
ஸத்யோ நிஷ்ப்ரபதாம் கத: ॥
sa tu rōṣaparītāṅgō
vālī sa kanakaprabhaḥ ।
uparakta ivādityaḥ
sadyō niṣprabhatāṃ gataḥ ॥
Vāli of golden sheen instantly lost his luster,
like the sun when eclipsed,
with his rage taking over
every single limb of his.
4.15.4 வாலீ தம்ஷ்ட்ராகராலஸ்து
க்ரோதாத்தீப்தாக்நிஸந்நிப: ।
பாத்யுத்பதிதபத்மஸ்து
ஸம்ருணாள இவ ஹ்ரத: ॥
vālī daṃṣṭrākarālastu
krōdhāddīptāgnisannibhaḥ ।
bhātyutpatitapadmastu
samṛṇā a iva hradaḥ ॥
Vāli’s protruding fierce teeth,
as he was ablaze in raze,
were like red lotuses that arose,
along with their stacks, from a pond.
4.15.5 ஸப்தம் துர்மர்ஷணம் ஸ்ருத்வா
நிஷ்பபாத ததோ ஹரி: ।
வேகேந சரணந்யாஸை:
தாரயந்நிவ மேதிநீம் ॥
ṡabdaṃ durmarṣaṇaṃ ṡrutvā
niṣpapāta tatō hariḥ ।
vēgēna caraṇanyāsaiḥ
dārayanniva mēdinīm ॥
On hearing that intolerable roar,
the Vānara walked out fast,
as if he would tear the
earth apart with his feet.
4.15.6 தம் து தாரா பரிஷ்வஜ்ய
ஸ்நேஹாத்தர்ஸிதஸௌஹ்ருதா ।
உவாச த்ரஸ்தஸம்ப்ராந்தா
ஹிதோதர்கமிதம் வச: ॥
taṃ tu tārā pariṣvajya
snēhāddarṡitasauhṛdā ।
uvāca trastasambhrāntā
hitōdarkamidaṃ vacaḥ ॥
Tārā embraced him out of love for him,
and showing all her affection,
spoke these words that would bode well for him,
in a flutter of anxiety.
4.15.7 ஸாது க்ரோதமிமம் வீர
நதீவேகமிவாகதம் ।
ஸயநாதுத்தித: கால்யம்
த்யஜ புக்தாமிவ ஸ்ரஜம் ॥
sādhu krōdhamimaṃ vīra
nadīvēgamivāgatam ।
ṡayanādutthitaḥ kālyam
tyaja bhuktāmiva srajam ॥
Let go of this anger completely,
O Veera, that has come upon you
like rapids on a stream,
just as one, rising from bed in the morning,
would throw away the flowers of yester-night!
4.15.8 ஸஹஸா தவ நிஷ்க்ராமோ
மம தாவந்ந ரோசதே ।
ஸ்ரூயதாம் சாபிதாஸ்யாமி
யந்நிமித்தம் நிவார்யஸே ॥
sahasā tava niṣkrāmō
mama tāvanna rōcatē ।
ṡrūyatāṃ cābhidhāsyāmi
yannimittaṃ nivāryasē ॥
I do not like you rushing like this immediately.
Please listen, I will tell you
why I am trying to stop you.
4.15.9 பூர்வமாபதித: க்ரோதாத்
ஸ த்வாமாஹ்வயதே யுதி ।
நிஷ்பத்ய ச நிரஸ்தஸ்தே
ஹந்யமாநோ திஸோ கத: ॥
pūrvamāpatitaḥ krōdhāt
sa tvāmāhvayatē yudhi ।
niṣpatya ca nirastastē
hanyamānō diṡō gataḥ ॥
He came here once before,
and challenged you to a fight.
You went out and beat him.
Losing the fight, he fled in every direction.
4.15.10 த்வயா தஸ்ய நிரஸ்தஸ்ய
பீடிதஸ்ய விஸேஷத: ।
இஹைத்ய புநராஹ்வாநம்
ஸங்காம் ஜநயதீவ மே ॥
tvayā tasya nirastasya
pīḍitasya viṡēṣataḥ ।
ihaitya punarāhvānam
ṡaṅkāṃ janayatīva mē ॥
His coming back after being
thus repulsed and completely crushed,
and challenging you again,
fills me with anxious doubts.
4.15.11 தர்பஸ்ச வ்யவஸாயஸ்ச
யாத்ருஸஸ்தஸ்ய நர்தத: ।
நிநாதஸ்சாபி ஸம்ரம்போ
நைததல்பம் ஹி காரணம் ॥
darpaṡca vyavasāyaṡca
yādṛṡastasya nardataḥ ।
ninādaṡcāpi saṃrambhō
naitadalpaṃ hi kāraṇam ॥
The arrogance, the zest, and the urgency
evident in the sound of his roar,
cannot be for a trivial reason.
4.15.12 நாஸஹாயமஹம் மந்யே
ஸுக்ரீவம் தமிஹாகதம் ।
அவஷ்டப்தஸஹாயஸ்ச
யமாஸ்ரித்யைஷ கர்ஜதி ॥
nāsahāyamahaṃ manyē
sugrīvaṃ tamihāgatam ।
avaṣṭabdhasahāyaṡca
yamāṡrityaiṣa garjati ॥
I do not think Sugreeva has come here unaccompanied.
The confidence in his roar indicates that
he has got the help of someone extraordinary.
4.15.13 ப்ரக்ருத்யா நிபுணஸ்சைவ
புத்திமாம்ஸ்சைவ வாநர: ।
அபரீக்ஷிதவீர்யேண
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ஸஹநைஷ்யதி ॥
prakṛtyā nipuṇaṡcaiva
buddhimāṃṡcaiva vānaraḥ ।
aparīkṣitavīryēṇa
sugrīvassahanaiṣyati ॥
He, the Vānara, is very
skilled and shrewd by nature.
He would not make friends with anyone
without testing one’s valor.
4.15.14 பூர்வமேவ மயா வீர
ஸ்ருதம் கதயதோ வச: ।
அங்கதஸ்ய குமாரஸ்ய
வக்ஷ்யாம்யத்ய ஹிதம் வச: ॥
pūrvamēva mayā vīra
ṡrutaṃ kathayatō vacaḥ ।
aṅgadasya kumārasya
vakṣyāmyadya hitaṃ vacaḥ ॥
O Veera! I heard something being said earlier.
Let me relay to you those words of
our son Aṅgada, which are in your interest.
4.15.15 அங்கதஸ்து குமாரோऽயம்
வநாந்தமுபநிர்கத: ।
ப்ரவ்ருத்திஸ்தேந கதிதா
சாரைராஸீந்நிவேதிதா ॥
aṅgadastu kumārō'yam
vanāntamupanirgataḥ ।
pravṛttistēna kathitā
cārairāsīnnivēditā ॥
Our son Aṅgada brought news
when he came back from the deep woods,
which was told to him by informers.
4.15.16-17a அயோத்யாதிபதே: புத்ரௌ
ஸூரௌ ஸமரதுர்ஜயௌ ।
இக்ஷ்வாகூணாம் குலே ஜாதௌ
ப்ரதிதௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ।
ஸுக்ரீவப்ரியகாமார்தம்
ப்ராப்தௌ தத்ர துராஸதௌ ॥
ayōdhyādhipatēḥ putrau
ṡūrau samaradurjayau ।
ikṣvākūṇāṃ kulē jātau
prathitau rāmalakṣmaṇau ।
sugrīvapriyakāmārtham
prāptau tatra durāsadau ॥
Rāma and Lakshmaṇa, sons of the lord of Ayōdhyā,
born into the lineage of Ikshwāku,
who are heroes invincible in fight
and difficult to stand against,
have come to fulfill the wish of Sugreeva.
4.15.17b-18a ஸ தே ப்ராதுர்ஹி விக்யாத:
ஸஹாயோ ரணகர்மணி ।
ராம: பரபலாமர்தீ
யுகாந்தாக்நிரிவோத்தித: ॥
sa tē bhrāturhi vikhyātaḥ
sahāyō raṇakarmaṇi ।
rāmaḥ parabalāmardī
yugāntāgnirivōtthitaḥ ॥
Rāma, who is famously known
for his exploits in battles and
for decimating enemy forces
as if he were the fire
that brings an end to the Yuga,
is now an ally of Sugreeva.
4.15.18b-19a நிவாஸவ்ருக்ஷ: ஸாதூநாம்
ஆபந்நாநாம் பரா கதி: ।
ஆர்தாநாம் ஸம்ஸ்ரயஸ்சைவ
யஸஸஸ்சைகபாஜநம் ॥
nivāsavṛkṣaḥ sādhūnām
āpannānāṃ parā gatiḥ ।
ārtānāṃ saṃṡrayaṡcaiva
yaṡasaṡcaikabhājanam ॥
He is the tree under which good people find shelter.
He is the recourse for people in hardship.
He is the refuge for those who are distressed.
He alone is the place where renown can be found.
4.15.19b-20a ஜ்ஞாநவிஜ்ஞாநஸம்பந்ந:
நிதேஸே நிரத: பிது: ।
தாதூநாமிவ ஸைலேந்த்ரோ
குணாநாமாகரோ மஹாந் ॥
jñānavijñānasampannaḥ
nidēṡē nirataḥ pituḥ ।
dhātūnāmiva ṡailēndrō
guṇānāmākarō mahān ॥
He is rich in his awareness and understanding.
He always abides by the will of his father.
Just as a mountain is a repository of minerals,
he is a great mine of virtues.
4.15.20b-21a தத்க்ஷமம் ந விரோதஸ்தே
ஸஹ தேந மஹாத்மநா ।
துர்ஜயேநாப்ரமேயேந
ராமேண ரணகர்மஸு ॥
tatkṣamaṃ na virōdhastē
saha tēna mahātmanā ।
durjayēnāpramēyēna
rāmēṇa raṇakarmasu ॥
It is not good for you to make
an enemy of Rāma, a Mahātma,
who is immeasurably invincible
in every kind of combat in a battle.
4.15.21b-22a ஸூர வக்ஷ்யாமி தே கிஞ்சித்
ந சேச்சாம்யப்யஸூயிதும் ।
ஸ்ரூயதாம் க்ரியதாம் சைவ
தவ வக்ஷ்யாமி யத்திதம் ॥
ṡūra vakṣyāmi tē kiñcit
na cēcchāmyabhyasūyitum ।
ṡrūyatāṃ kriyatāṃ caiva
tava vakṣyāmi yaddhitam ॥
O Ṡūra! Let me give my humble opinion.
I don’t like you becoming angry with me!
I hope you hear what I say
that is for your own good and do accordingly.
4.15.22b-23a யௌவராஜ்யேந ஸுக்ரீவம்
தூர்ணம் ஸாத்வபிஷேசய ।
விக்ரஹம் மா க்ருதா வீர
ப்ராத்ரா ராஜந்யவீயஸா ॥
yauvarājyēna sugrīvam
tūrṇaṃ sādhvabhiṣēcaya ।
vigrahaṃ mā kṛthā vīra
bhrātrā rājanyavīyasā ॥
Install Sugreeva without delay as heir-apparent.
O Veera! You must not be at odds
with your younger brother!
4.15.23b-24a அஹம் ஹி தே க்ஷமம் மந்யே
தேந ராமேண ஸௌஹ்ருதம் ।
ஸுக்ரீவேண ச ஸம்ப்ரீதிம்
வைரமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய தூரத: ॥
ahaṃ hi tē kṣamaṃ manyē
tēna rāmēṇa sauhṛdam ।
sugrīvēṇa ca samprītim
vairamutsṛjya dūrataḥ ॥
I think it would be right and proper
to win Rama’s friendship and Sugreeva’s affection,
renouncing all feelings of enmity.
4.15.24b-25a லாலநீயோ ஹி தே ப்ராதா
யவீயாநேஷ வாநர: ।
தத்ர வா ஸந்நிஹஸ்தோ வா
ஸர்வதா பந்துரேவ தே ॥
lālanīyō hi tē bhrātā
yavīyānēṣa vānaraḥ ।
tatra vā sannihasthō vā
sarvathā bandhurēva tē ॥
That Vānara, your brother,
is after all, younger to you
and hence deserves to be doted upon.
Whether he is here or elsewhere,
he is your kin in every way.
4.15.25b-26 ந ஹி தேந ஸமம் பந்தும்
புவி பஸ்யாமி கஞ்சந ।
தாநமாநாதிஸத்காரை:
குருஷ்வ ப்ரத்யநந்தரம் ।
வைரமேதத்ஸமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய
தவ பார்ஸ்வே ஸ திஷ்டது ॥
na hi tēna samaṃ bandhum
bhuvi paṡyāmi kañcana ।
dānamānādisatkāraiḥ
kuruṣva pratyanantaram ।
vairamētatsamutsṛjya
tava pārṡvē sa tiṣṭhatu ॥
I cannot think of anyone else on this earth
who is as close a kin to you as he is.
Promote him to a place that is next only to yourself
giving gifts, honor and regard accordingly.
May he stand by your side, giving up all this enmity!
4.15.27 ஸுக்ரீவோ விபுலக்ரீவ:
தவபந்துஸ்ஸதா மத: ।
ப்ராத்ருஸ்ஸௌஹ்ருதமாலம்ப
நாந்யா கதிரிஹாஸ்தி தே ॥
sugrīvō vipulagrīvaḥ
tavabandhussadā mataḥ ।
bhrātṛssauhṛdamālamba
nānyā gatirihāsti tē ॥
Sugreeva of wide neck is always
considered to be your kin.
Show brotherly affection towards him.
There is no other alternative for you.
4.15.28 யதி தே மத்ப்ரியம் கார்யம்
யதி சாவைஷி மாம் ஹிதாம் ।
யாச்யமாந: ப்ரியத்வேந
ஸாது வாக்யம் குருஷ்வ மே ॥
yadi tē matpriyaṃ kāryam
yadi cāvaiṣi māṃ hitām ।
yācyamānaḥ priyatvēna
sādhu vākyaṃ kuruṣva mē ॥
If you would do my pleasure and
believe that I only wish good for you,
you must follow my advice sincerely
as I implore you out of love.
4.15.29 ப்ரஸீத பத்யம் ஸ்ருணு ஜல்பிதம் ஹி மே
ந ரோஷ மேவாநுவிதாதுமர்ஹஸி ।
க்ஷமோ ஹி தே கோஸலராஜஸூநுநா
ந விக்ரஹஸ்ஸக்ரஸமாநதேஜஸா ॥
prasīda pathyaṃ ṡṛṇu jalpitaṃ hi mē
na rōṣa mēvānuvidhātumarhasi ।
kṣamō hi tē kōsalarājasūnunā
na vigrahaṡṡakrasamānatējasā ॥
Be kind and listen to my humble
and well-meaning advice.
You shall not be led by your anger.
It is not good to stand against
the son of the King of Kōsala,
whose prowess equals that of Ṡakra.
4.15.30 ததா ஹி தாரா ஹிதமேவ வாக்யம்
தம் வாலிநம் பத்யமிதம் பபாஷே ।
ந ரோசதே தத்வசநம் ஹி தஸ்ய
காலாபிபந்நஸ்ய விநாஸகாலே ॥
tadā hi tārā hitamēva vākyaṃ
taṃ vālinaṃ pathyamidaṃ babhāṣē ।
na rōcatē tadvacanaṃ hi tasya
kālābhipannasya vināṡakālē ॥
Thus spoke Tārā to Vali, words that
were good for him and in his best interest.
But those words were not liked by him,
as he was driven by fate and
the time for his end was near.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே பஞ்சதஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
kiṣkindhākāṇḍē pañcadaṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the fifteenth Sarga

sugrīvaṃ tamihāgatam ।
avaṣṭabdhasahāyaṡca
yamāṡrityaiṣa garjati ॥
I do not think Sugreeva has come here unaccompanied.
The confidence in his roar indicates that
he has got the help of someone extraordinary.
4.15.13 ப்ரக்ருத்யா நிபுணஸ்சைவ
புத்திமாம்ஸ்சைவ வாநர: ।
அபரீக்ஷிதவீர்யேண
ஸுக்ரீவஸ்ஸஹநைஷ்யதி ॥
prakṛtyā nipuṇaṡcaiva
buddhimāṃṡcaiva vānaraḥ ।
aparīkṣitavīryēṇa
sugrīvassahanaiṣyati ॥
He, the Vānara, is very
skilled and shrewd by nature.
He would not make friends with anyone
without testing one’s valor.
4.15.14 பூர்வமேவ மயா வீர
ஸ்ருதம் கதயதோ வச: ।
அங்கதஸ்ய குமாரஸ்ய
வக்ஷ்யாம்யத்ய ஹிதம் வச: ॥
pūrvamēva mayā vīra
ṡrutaṃ kathayatō vacaḥ ।
aṅgadasya kumārasya
vakṣyāmyadya hitaṃ vacaḥ ॥
O Veera! I heard something being said earlier.
Let me relay to you those words of
our son Aṅgada, which are in your interest.
4.15.15 அங்கதஸ்து குமாரோऽயம்
வநாந்தமுபநிர்கத: ।
ப்ரவ்ருத்திஸ்தேந கதிதா
சாரைராஸீந்நிவேதிதா ॥
aṅgadastu kumārō'yam
vanāntamupanirgataḥ ।
pravṛttistēna kathitā
cārairāsīnnivēditā ॥
Our son Aṅgada brought news
when he came back from the deep woods,
which was told to him by informers.
4.15.16-17a அயோத்யாதிபதே: புத்ரௌ
ஸூரௌ ஸமரதுர்ஜயௌ ।
இக்ஷ்வாகூணாம் குலே ஜாதௌ
ப்ரதிதௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ।
ஸுக்ரீவப்ரியகாமார்தம்
ப்ராப்தௌ தத்ர துராஸதௌ ॥
ayōdhyādhipatēḥ putrau
ṡūrau samaradurjayau ।
ikṣvākūṇāṃ kulē jātau
prathitau rāmalakṣmaṇau ।
sugrīvapriyakāmārtham
prāptau tatra durāsadau ॥
Rāma and Lakshmaṇa, sons of the lord of Ayōdhyā,
born into the lineage of Ikshwāku,
who are heroes invincible in fight
and difficult to stand against,
have come to fulfill the wish of Sugreeva.
4.15.17b-18a ஸ தே ப்ராதுர்ஹி விக்யாத:
ஸஹாயோ ரணகர்மணி ।
ராம: பரபலாமர்தீ
யுகாந்தாக்நிரிவோத்தித: ॥
sa tē bhrāturhi vikhyātaḥ
sahāyō raṇakarmaṇi ।
rāmaḥ parabalāmardī
yugāntāgnirivōtthitaḥ ॥
Rāma, who is famously known
for his exploits in battles and
for decimating enemy forces
as if he were the fire
that brings an end to the Yuga,
is now an ally of Sugreeva.
4.15.18b-19a நிவாஸவ்ருக்ஷ: ஸாதூநாம்
ஆபந்நாநாம் பரா கதி: ।
ஆர்தாநாம் ஸம்ஸ்ரயஸ்சைவ
யஸஸஸ்சைகபாஜநம் ॥
nivāsavṛkṣaḥ sādhūnām
āpannānāṃ parā gatiḥ ।
ārtānāṃ saṃṡrayaṡcaiva
yaṡasaṡcaikabhājanam ॥
He is the tree under which good people find shelter.
He is the recourse for people in hardship.
He is the refuge for those who are distressed.
He alone is the place where renown can be found.
4.15.19b-20a ஜ்ஞாநவிஜ்ஞாநஸம்பந்ந:
நிதேஸே நிரத: பிது: ।
தாதூநாமிவ ஸைலேந்த்ரோ
குணாநாமாகரோ மஹாந் ॥
jñānavijñānasampannaḥ
nidēṡē nirataḥ pituḥ ।
dhātūnāmiva ṡailēndrō
guṇānāmākarō mahān ॥
He is rich in his awareness and understanding.
He always abides by the will of his father.
Just as a mountain is a repository of minerals,
he is a great mine of virtues.
4.15.20b-21a தத்க்ஷமம் ந விரோதஸ்தே
ஸஹ தேந மஹாத்மநா ।
துர்ஜயேநாப்ரமேயேந
ராமேண ரணகர்மஸு ॥
tatkṣamaṃ na virōdhastē
saha tēna mahātmanā ।
durjayēnāpramēyēna
rāmēṇa raṇakarmasu ॥
It is not good for you to make
an enemy of Rāma, a Mahātma,
who is immeasurably invincible
in every kind of combat in a battle.
4.15.21b-22a ஸூர வக்ஷ்யாமி தே கிஞ்சித்
ந சேச்சாம்யப்யஸூயிதும் ।
ஸ்ரூயதாம் க்ரியதாம் சைவ
தவ வக்ஷ்யாமி யத்திதம் ॥
ṡūra vakṣyāmi tē kiñcit
na cēcchāmyabhyasūyitum ।
ṡrūyatāṃ kriyatāṃ caiva
tava vakṣyāmi yaddhitam ॥
O Ṡūra! Let me give my humble opinion.
I don’t like you becoming angry with me!
I hope you hear what I say
that is for your own good and do accordingly.
4.15.22b-23a யௌவராஜ்யேந ஸுக்ரீவம்
தூர்ணம் ஸாத்வபிஷேசய ।
விக்ரஹம் மா க்ருதா வீர
ப்ராத்ரா ராஜந்யவீயஸா ॥
yauvarājyēna sugrīvam
tūrṇaṃ sādhvabhiṣēcaya ।
vigrahaṃ mā kṛthā vīra
bhrātrā rājanyavīyasā ॥
Install Sugreeva without delay as heir-apparent.
O Veera! You must not be at odds
with your younger brother!
4.15.23b-24a அஹம் ஹி தே க்ஷமம் மந்யே
தேந ராமேண ஸௌஹ்ருதம் ।
ஸுக்ரீவேண ச ஸம்ப்ரீதிம்
வைரமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய தூரத: ॥
ahaṃ hi tē kṣamaṃ manyē
tēna rāmēṇa sauhṛdam ।
sugrīvēṇa ca samprītim
vairamutsṛjya dūrataḥ ॥
I think it would be right and proper
to win Rama’s friendship and Sugreeva’s affection,
renouncing all feelings of enmity.
4.15.24b-25a லாலநீயோ ஹி தே ப்ராதா
யவீயாநேஷ வாநர: ।
தத்ர வா ஸந்நிஹஸ்தோ வா
ஸர்வதா பந்துரேவ தே ॥
lālanīyō hi tē bhrātā
yavīyānēṣa vānaraḥ ।
tatra vā sannihasthō vā
sarvathā bandhurēva tē ॥
That Vānara, your brother,
is after all, younger to you
and hence deserves to be doted upon.
Whether he is here or elsewhere,
he is your kin in every way.
4.15.25b-26 ந ஹி தேந ஸமம் பந்தும்
புவி பஸ்யாமி கஞ்சந ।
தாநமாநாதிஸத்காரை:
குருஷ்வ ப்ரத்யநந்தரம் ।
வைரமேதத்ஸமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய
தவ பார்ஸ்வே ஸ திஷ்டது ॥
na hi tēna samaṃ bandhum
bhuvi paṡyāmi kañcana ।
dānamānādisatkāraiḥ
kuruṣva pratyanantaram ।
vairamētatsamutsṛjya
tava pārṡvē sa tiṣṭhatu ॥
I cannot think of anyone else on this earth
who is as close a kin to you as he is.
Promote him to a place that is next only to yourself
giving gifts, honor and regard accordingly.
May he stand by your side, giving up all this enmity!
4.15.27 ஸுக்ரீவோ விபுலக்ரீவ:
தவபந்துஸ்ஸதா மத: ।
ப்ராத்ருஸ்ஸௌஹ்ருதமாலம்ப
நாந்யா கதிரிஹாஸ்தி தே ॥
sugrīvō vipulagrīvaḥ
tavabandhussadā mataḥ ।
bhrātṛssauhṛdamālamba
nānyā gatirihāsti tē ॥
Sugreeva of wide neck is always
considered to be your kin.
Show brotherly affection towards him.
There is no other alternative for you.
4.15.28 யதி தே மத்ப்ரியம் கார்யம்
யதி சாவைஷி மாம் ஹிதாம் ।
யாச்யமாந: ப்ரியத்வேந
ஸாது வாக்யம் குருஷ்வ மே ॥
yadi tē matpriyaṃ kāryam
yadi cāvaiṣi māṃ hitām ।
yācyamānaḥ priyatvēna
sādhu vākyaṃ kuruṣva mē ॥
If you would do my pleasure and
believe that I only wish good for you,
you must follow my advice sincerely
as I implore you out of love.
4.15.29 ப்ரஸீத பத்யம் ஸ்ருணு ஜல்பிதம் ஹி மே
ந ரோஷ மேவாநுவிதாதுமர்ஹஸி ।
க்ஷமோ ஹி தே கோஸலராஜஸூநுநா
ந விக்ரஹஸ்ஸக்ரஸமாநதேஜஸா ॥
prasīda pathyaṃ ṡṛṇu jalpitaṃ hi mē
na rōṣa mēvānuvidhātumarhasi ।
kṣamō hi tē kōsalarājasūnunā
na vigrahaṡṡakrasamānatējasā ॥
Be kind and listen to my humble
and well-meaning advice.
You shall not be led by your anger.
It is not good to stand against
the son of the King of Kōsala,
whose prowess equals that of Ṡakra.
4.15.30 ததா ஹி தாரா ஹிதமேவ வாக்யம்
தம் வாலிநம் பத்யமிதம் பபாஷே ।
ந ரோசதே தத்வசநம் ஹி தஸ்ய
காலாபிபந்நஸ்ய விநாஸகாலே ॥
tadā hi tārā hitamēva vākyaṃ
taṃ vālinaṃ pathyamidaṃ babhāṣē ।
na rōcatē tadvacanaṃ hi tasya
kālābhipannasya vināṡakālē ॥
Thus spoke Tārā to Vali, words that
were good for him and in his best interest.
But those words were not liked by him,
as he was driven by fate and
the time for his end was near.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
கிஷ்கிந்தாகாண்டே பஞ்சதஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
kiṣkindhākāṇḍē pañcadaṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the fifteenth Sarga
in Kishkindhā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
