Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 4
Kishkindha Kaanda - Sarga 4
In this Sarga, Hanumān asks Rāma and Lakshmaṇa who they are and why they have come to the impenetrable, dense Vana. Lakshmaṇa tells Hanumān about Daṡaratha, about Rāma and the loss of kingdom and their stay in the Vana. He tells Hanumān that both Seetā, Rāma’s wife, and he himself, followed Rāma to the Vana and that Seetā was abducted by a Rakshasa when she was alone, and that Danu, son of Diti had told them about Sugreeva, who could help them find Seetā. Lakshmaṇa tells Hanumān, with tears welling in his eyes, that Rāma, as great and capable as he was, would now have to take refuge in Sugreeva, lord of Vānaras.
With the exchange between them, Hanumān feels that the time has come for Sugreeva to regain his kingdom and Lakshmaṇa feels that Rāma’s object is as good as achieved. Hanumān then flies to Sugreeva, carrying Rāma and Lakshmana on his back.
