3.73.21 ஸுமநோபிஸ்சிதாம்ஸ்தத்ர
திலகாந்நக்தமாலகாந் ।
உத்பலாநி ச புல்லாநி
பங்கஜாநி ச ராகவ ॥
sumanōbhiṡcitāṃstatra
tilakānnaktamālakān ।
utpalāni ca phullāni
paṅkajāni ca rāghava ॥
O Rāghava! There you will see
Tilaka and Naktamālaka trees
in flower, spread all over, and
lotuses and blue lilies in bloom.
3.73.22 ந தாநி கஸ்சிந்மால்யாநி
தத்ராரோபயிதா நர: ।
ந ச வை ம்லாநதாம் யந்தி
ந ச ஸீர்யந்தி ராகவ ॥
na tāni kaṡcinmālyāni
tatrārōpayitā naraḥ ।
na ca vai mlānatāṃ yanti
na ca ṡīryanti rāghava ॥
O Rāghava! Those garlands of flowers
are not plucked by anyone to wear;
nor do they wilt, nor fall off.
3.73.23-25a மதங்கஸிஷ்யாஸ்தத்ராऽஸந்
ருஷயஸ்ஸுஸமாஹிதா: ।
தேஷாம் பாராபிதப்தாநாம்
வந்யமாஹரதாம் குரோ: ।
யே ப்ரபேதுர்மஹீம் தூர்ணம்
ஸரீராத்ஸ்வேதபிந்தவ: ।
தாநி ஜாதாநி மால்யாநி
முநீநாம் தபஸா ததா ।
ஸ்வேதபிந்துஸமுத்தாநி
ந விநஸ்யந்தி ராகவ ॥
mataṅgaṡiṣyāstatrā'san
ṛṣayassusamāhitāḥ ।
tēṣāṃ bhārābhitaptānām
vanyamāharatāṃ gurōḥ ।
yē prapēturmahīṃ tūrṇam
ṡarīrātsvēdabindavaḥ ।
tāni jātāni mālyāni
munīnāṃ tapasā tadā ।
svēdabindusamutthāni
na vinaṡyanti rāghava ॥
The Ṡishyas of Mataṅga, who are
very focused Ṛshis, used to live there.
As they toiled to collect the
produce of the Vana for their Guru,
drops of sweat that fell down
on the ground from their bodies
turned immediately into those garlands
because of the power of their Tapa.
O Rāghava, they never perish,
as they came out of their sweat.
3.73.25b-26a தேஷாம் கதாநாமத்யாபி
த்ருஸ்யதே பரிசாரிணீ ।
ஸ்ரமணீ ஸபரீ நாம
காகுத்ஸ்த சிரஜீவிநீ ॥
tēṣāṃ gatānāmadyāpi
dṛṡyatē paricāriṇī ।
ṡramaṇī ṡabarī nāma
kākutstha cirajīvinī ॥
O Kākutstha, while all of them have passed away,
an anchorite by name Ṡabari who served them,
who is blessed with long life,
can be seen even today.
3.73.26b-27a த்வாம் து தர்மே ஸ்திதா நித்யம்
ஸர்வபூதநமஸ்க்ருதம் ।
த்ருஷ்ட்வா தேவோபமம் ராம
ஸ்வர்கலோகம் கமிஷ்யதி ॥
tvāṃ tu dharmē sthitā nityam
sarvabhūtanamaskṛtam ।
dṛṣṭvā dēvōpamaṃ rāma
svargalōkaṃ gamiṣyati ॥
O Rāma! She, a constant adherent of Dharma,
will attain heaven after seeing you,
who are regarded by all the people as a Dēva.
3.73.27b-28a ததஸ்தத்ராம பம்பாயா:
தீரமாஸாத்ய பஸ்சிமம் ।
ஆஸ்ரமஸ்தாநமதுலம்
குஹ்யம் காகுத்ஸ்த பஸ்யஸி ॥
tatastadrāma pampāyāḥ
tīramāsādya paṡcimam ।
āṡramasthānamatulam
guhyaṃ kākutstha paṡyasi ॥
O Rāma, descendant of Kakutstha!
When you reach the western shore of Pampa,
you will see (her) unique and hidden Āṡrama.
3.73.28b-29 ந தத்ராக்ரமிதும் நாகா:
ஸக்நுவந்தி தமாஸ்ரமம் ।
விவிதாஸ்தத்ர வை நாகா
வநே தஸ்மிம்ஸ்ச பர்வதே ।
ருஷேஸ்தத்ர மதங்கஸ்ய
விதாநாத்தச்ச காநநம் ॥
na tatrākramituṃ nāgāḥ
ṡaknuvanti tamāṡramam ।
vividhāstatra vai nāgā
vanē tasmiṃṡca parvatē ।
ṛṣēstatra mataṅgasya
vidhānāttacca kānanam ॥
Elephants cannot intrude into that Āṡrama,
though there are many kinds
on that mountain and in the Vana,
because that forest obeys the rules of Mataṅga.
3.73.30 தஸ்மிந்நந்தநஸங்காஸே
தேவாரண்யோபமே வநே ।
நாநாவிஹகஸங்கீர்ணே
ரம்ஸ்யஸே ராம நிர்வ்ருத: ॥
tasminnandanasaṅkāṡē
dēvāraṇyōpamē vanē ।
nānāvihagasaṅkīrṇē
raṃsyasē rāma nirvṛtaḥ ॥
O Rāma! You will forget all cares
and enjoy in that woods, an equal of
Nandana and the other celestial woods,
crowded with birds of every kind.
3.73.31-32a ருஷ்யமூகஸ்ச பம்பாயா:
புரஸ்தாத்புஷ்பிதத்ரும: ।
ஸுது:காரோஹணோ நாம
ஸிஸுநாகாபிரக்ஷித: ।
உதாரோ ப்ரஹ்மணா சைவ
பூர்வகாலே விநிர்மித: ॥
ṛṣyamūkaṡca pampāyāḥ
purastātpuṣpitadrumaḥ ।
suduḥkhārōhaṇō nāma
ṡiṡunāgābhirakṣitaḥ ।
udārō brahmaṇā caiva
pūrvakālē vinirmitaḥ ॥
Mount Ṛshyamūka, full of trees in bloom,
protected by baby elephants,
difficult to climb, is ahead of Pampa.
It is majestic, built by Brahma long time ago.
3.73.32b-33a ஸயாந: புருஷோ ராம
தஸ்ய ஸைலஸ்ய மூர்தநி ।
யத்ஸ்வப்நே லபதே வித்தம்
தத்ப்ரபுத்தோऽதிகச்சதி ॥
ṡayānaḥ puruṣō rāma
tasya ṡailasya mūrdhani ।
yatsvapnē labhatē vittam
tatprabuddhō'dhigacchati ॥
O Rāma! Anyone sleeping on the
crest of the mountain, will attain, when he wakes up,
all the treasures that he sees in his dream. As you read this to your children (or grandchildren), do not be surprised if they ask you to take them immediately to Ṛshyamūka! They also want to see the baby elephants, in Mataṅga Āṡrama, on their way!
3.73.33b-34 நத்வேநம் விஷமாசார:
பாபகர்மாऽதிரோஹதி ।
யஸ்து தம் விஷமாசார:
பாபகர்மாऽதிரோஹதி ।
தத்ரைவ ப்ரஹறந்த்யேநம்
ஸுப்தமாதாய ராக்ஷஸா: ॥
natvēnaṃ viṣamācāraḥ
pāpakarmā'dhirōhati ।
yastu taṃ viṣamācāraḥ
pāpakarmā'dhirōhati ।
tatraiva praha antyēnam
suptamādāya rākṣasāḥ ॥
No sinner, who harbors bad ways of life,
(dare) climb up that mountain.
If a sinner who harbors bad ways of life climbs up,
he will be beaten up by Rākshasas when he sleeps. Hearing this, your children will make a resolve in their mind that they will never harbor a bad way of life, so that they can one day go to Ṛshyamūka and dream about a treasure and get it when they wake up.
Do not spoil their dreams by saying Ṛshyamūka is fictional. When they grow up they will realize that it is symbolic of good opportunities that lie ahead of them.
3.73.35 தத்ராபி ஸிஸுநாகாநாம்
ஆக்ரந்தஸ்ஸ்ரூயதே மஹாந் ।
க்ரீடதாம் ராம பம்பாயாம்
மதங்காரண்யவாஸிநாம் ॥
tatrāpi ṡiṡunāgānām
ākrandhaṡṡrūyatē mahān ।
krīḍatāṃ rāma pampāyām
mataṅgāraṇyavāsinām ॥
O Rāma! The loud trumpets of the baby elephants
that live in the Mataṅga Araṇya
can be heard even from there, as they play in Pampa.
3.73.36 ஸிக்தா ருதிரதாராபி:
ஸம்ஹ்ருத்ய பரமத்விபா: ।
ப்ரசரந்தி ப்ருதக்கீர்ணா
மேகவர்ணாஸ்தரஸ்விந: ॥
siktā rudhiradhārābhiḥ
saṃhṛtya paramadvipāḥ ।
pracaranti pṛthakkīrṇā
mēghavarṇāstarasvinaḥ ॥
Giant and mighty strong tuskers, dark as the clouds,
with blood flowing from fighting each other,
roam all over the place, all by themselves.
3.73.37 தே தத்ர பீத்வா பாநீயம்
விமலம் ஸீதமவ்யயம் ।
நிர்வ்ருதாஸ்ஸம்விகாஹந்தே
வநாநி வநகோசரா: ॥
tē tatra pītvā pānīyam
vimalaṃ ṡītamavyayam ।
nirvṛtāssaṃvigāhantē
vanāni vanagōcarāḥ ॥
Having contently drunk the pure, cool and abundant water,
these wild creatures return to the depths of the Vana.
3.73.38 ருக்ஷாம்ஸ்ச த்வீபிநஸ்சைவ
நீலகோமலகப்ரபாந் ।
ருரூநபேதாபஜயாந்
த்ருஷ்ட்வா ஸோகம் ஜயிஷ்யஸி ॥
ṛkṣāṃṡca dvīpinaṡcaiva
nīlakōmalakaprabhān ।
rurūnapētāpajayān
dṛṣṭvā ṡōkaṃ jayiṣyasi ॥
Seeing the bears and the leopards of silky black sheen,
and Rurus that elude pursuit, you will forget your grief.
3.73.39 ராம தஸ்ய து ஸைலஸ்ய
மஹதீ ஸோபதே குஹா ।
ஸிலாபிதாநா காகுத்ஸ்த
து:கம் சாஸ்யா: ப்ரவேஸநம் ॥
rāma tasya tu ṡailasya
mahatī ṡōbhatē guhā ।
ṡilāpidhānā kākutstha
duḥkhaṃ cāsyāḥ pravēṡanam ॥
O Rāma, descendent of Kakutstha!
That mountain is adorned with a great cave,
which is covered by a boulder making it difficult to enter.
3.73.40 தஸ்யா குஹாயா: ப்ராக்த்வாரே
மஹாந்ஸீதோதகோ ஹ்ரத: ।
பலமூலாந்விதோ ரம்யோ
நாநாம்ருகஸமாவ்ருத: ॥
tasyā guhāyāḥ prāgdvārē
mahānṡītōdakō hradaḥ ।
phalamūlānvitō ramyō
nānāmṛgasamāvṛtaḥ ॥
There is a big pool of cool water at its eastern entrance.
The place abounds in fruits and roots and is delightful
with many kinds of beasts gathering there.
3.73.41 தஸ்யாம் வஸதி ஸுக்ரீவ:
சதுர்பிஸ்ஸஹ வாநரை: ।
கதாசிச்சிகரே தஸ்ய
பர்வதஸ்யாவதிஷ்டதே ॥
tasyāṃ vasati sugrīvaḥ
caturbhissaha vānaraiḥ ।
kadācicchikharē tasya
parvatasyāvatiṣṭhatē ॥
There lives Sugreeva along with four Vānaras,
going, at times, to the top of the mountain.
3.73.42 கபந்தஸ்த்வநுஸாஸ்யைவம்
தாவுபௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ।
ஸ்ரக்வீ பாஸ்கரவர்ணாப:
கே வ்யரோசத வீர்யவாந் ॥
kabandhastvanuṡāsyaivam
tāvubhau rāmalakṣmaṇau ।
sragvī bhāskaravarṇābhaḥ
khē vyarōcata vīryavān ॥
Kabandha of great valor, adorned with a garland,
shining in the sky with the brightness of sun,
thus concluded his advice to both Rāma and Lakshmaṇa.
3.73.43 தம் து கஸ்தம் மஹாபாகம்
கபந்தம் ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ।
ப்ரஸ்திதௌ த்வம் வ்ரஜஸ்வேதி
வாக்யமூசதுரந்திகே ॥
taṃ tu khasthaṃ mahābhāgam
kabandhaṃ rāmalakṣmaṇau ।
prasthitau tvaṃ vrajasvēti
vākyamūcaturantikē ॥
And at the end of it, they, Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
set out on their journey, told Kabandha,
the blessed one, who was in the sky, ‘Farewell to you’.
3.73.44 கம்யதாம் கார்யஸித்த்யர்தம்
இதி தாவப்ரவீத்ஸ ச ।
ஸுப்ரீதௌ தாவநுஜ்ஞாப்ய
கபந்த: ப்ரஸ்திதஸ்ததா ॥
gamyatāṃ kāryasiddhyartham
iti tāvabravītsa ca ।
suprītau tāvanujñāpya
kabandhaḥ prasthitastadā ॥
‘May you proceed and be successful in your endeavor”,
said Kabandha, a man of great discipline, to both of them,
and left, taking proper leave of them.
3.73.45 ஸ தத்கபந்த: ப்ரதிபத்ய ரூபம்
வ்ருதஸ்ஸ்ரியா பாஸ்கரதுல்யதேஹ: ।
நிதர்ஸயந்ராமமவேக்ஷ்ய கஸ்த:
ஸக்யம் குருஷ்வேதி ததாப்யுவாச ॥
sa tatkabandhaḥ pratipadya rūpaṃ
vṛtaṡṡriyā bhāskaratulyadēhaḥ ।
nidarṡayanrāmamavēkṣya khasthaḥ
sakhyaṃ kuruṣvēti tadābhyuvāca ॥
Kabandha with his new body that shone like the sun,
and with a halo of glory about him,
looked at Rāma from his place in the sky and told him,
‘make friends with Sugreeva’, pointing in that direction.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே த்ரிஸப்ததிதமஸ்ஸர்க: ।
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē trisaptatitamassargaḥ ।

3.73.38 ருக்ஷாம்ஸ்ச த்வீபிநஸ்சைவ
நீலகோமலகப்ரபாந் ।
ருரூநபேதாபஜயாந்
த்ருஷ்ட்வா ஸோகம் ஜயிஷ்யஸி ॥
ṛkṣāṃṡca dvīpinaṡcaiva
nīlakōmalakaprabhān ।
rurūnapētāpajayān
dṛṣṭvā ṡōkaṃ jayiṣyasi ॥
Seeing the bears and the leopards of silky black sheen,
and Rurus that elude pursuit, you will forget your grief.
3.73.39 ராம தஸ்ய து ஸைலஸ்ய
மஹதீ ஸோபதே குஹா ।
ஸிலாபிதாநா காகுத்ஸ்த
து:கம் சாஸ்யா: ப்ரவேஸநம் ॥
rāma tasya tu ṡailasya
mahatī ṡōbhatē guhā ।
ṡilāpidhānā kākutstha
duḥkhaṃ cāsyāḥ pravēṡanam ॥
O Rāma, descendent of Kakutstha!
That mountain is adorned with a great cave,
which is covered by a boulder making it difficult to enter.
3.73.40 தஸ்யா குஹாயா: ப்ராக்த்வாரே
மஹாந்ஸீதோதகோ ஹ்ரத: ।
பலமூலாந்விதோ ரம்யோ
நாநாம்ருகஸமாவ்ருத: ॥
tasyā guhāyāḥ prāgdvārē
mahānṡītōdakō hradaḥ ।
phalamūlānvitō ramyō
nānāmṛgasamāvṛtaḥ ॥
There is a big pool of cool water at its eastern entrance.
The place abounds in fruits and roots and is delightful
with many kinds of beasts gathering there.
3.73.41 தஸ்யாம் வஸதி ஸுக்ரீவ:
சதுர்பிஸ்ஸஹ வாநரை: ।
கதாசிச்சிகரே தஸ்ய
பர்வதஸ்யாவதிஷ்டதே ॥
tasyāṃ vasati sugrīvaḥ
caturbhissaha vānaraiḥ ।
kadācicchikharē tasya
parvatasyāvatiṣṭhatē ॥
There lives Sugreeva along with four Vānaras,
going, at times, to the top of the mountain.
3.73.42 கபந்தஸ்த்வநுஸாஸ்யைவம்
தாவுபௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ।
ஸ்ரக்வீ பாஸ்கரவர்ணாப:
கே வ்யரோசத வீர்யவாந் ॥
kabandhastvanuṡāsyaivam
tāvubhau rāmalakṣmaṇau ।
sragvī bhāskaravarṇābhaḥ
khē vyarōcata vīryavān ॥
Kabandha of great valor, adorned with a garland,
shining in the sky with the brightness of sun,
thus concluded his advice to both Rāma and Lakshmaṇa.
3.73.43 தம் து கஸ்தம் மஹாபாகம்
கபந்தம் ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ।
ப்ரஸ்திதௌ த்வம் வ்ரஜஸ்வேதி
வாக்யமூசதுரந்திகே ॥
taṃ tu khasthaṃ mahābhāgam
kabandhaṃ rāmalakṣmaṇau ।
prasthitau tvaṃ vrajasvēti
vākyamūcaturantikē ॥
And at the end of it, they, Rāma and Lakshmaṇa,
set out on their journey, told Kabandha,
the blessed one, who was in the sky, ‘Farewell to you’.
3.73.44 கம்யதாம் கார்யஸித்த்யர்தம்
இதி தாவப்ரவீத்ஸ ச ।
ஸுப்ரீதௌ தாவநுஜ்ஞாப்ய
கபந்த: ப்ரஸ்திதஸ்ததா ॥
gamyatāṃ kāryasiddhyartham
iti tāvabravītsa ca ।
suprītau tāvanujñāpya
kabandhaḥ prasthitastadā ॥
‘May you proceed and be successful in your endeavor”,
said Kabandha, a man of great discipline, to both of them,
and left, taking proper leave of them.
3.73.45 ஸ தத்கபந்த: ப்ரதிபத்ய ரூபம்
வ்ருதஸ்ஸ்ரியா பாஸ்கரதுல்யதேஹ: ।
நிதர்ஸயந்ராமமவேக்ஷ்ய கஸ்த:
ஸக்யம் குருஷ்வேதி ததாப்யுவாச ॥
sa tatkabandhaḥ pratipadya rūpaṃ
vṛtaṡṡriyā bhāskaratulyadēhaḥ ।
nidarṡayanrāmamavēkṣya khasthaḥ
sakhyaṃ kuruṣvēti tadābhyuvāca ॥
Kabandha with his new body that shone like the sun,
and with a halo of glory about him,
looked at Rāma from his place in the sky and told him,
‘make friends with Sugreeva’, pointing in that direction.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே த்ரிஸப்ததிதமஸ்ஸர்க: ।
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē trisaptatitamassargaḥ ।
Thus concludes the seventy third Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
