Aranya Kaanda - Sarga 64
In this Sarga, Rāma asks river Gōdāvarī about Seetā and hears no response. Gōdāvarī, afraid of Rāvaṇa, does not respond, even though the elements encourage her.
Meanwhile, he notices the deer trying to tell him something. When asked, they point him in the southerly direction. Rāma and Lakshmaṇa proceed in that direction. Then they see flowers and specks of gold on the ground and Rāma recognizes them to be of Seetā. Then Rāma also sees a broken bow, scattered quivers, a broken chariot, the dead charioteer and two fly-whisk wielders who were slain.
Rāma becomes angry that Dharma and powers of the universe did not come to his aid and protect his beloved, even though he always stood for Dharma. He reflects that everyone mistakes the soft and compassionate nature of a person for incompetency. He says to Lakshmaṇa that he shall show his fiery side, subduing his moon-like pleasant side, and destroy all the three worlds, along with its mountains, peoples, Rākshasas, Dēvas, Yakshas and Dānavas, if the powers of the universe do not bring his Seetā back to him.
3.64.1-2a ஸ தீநோ தீநயா வாசா
லக்ஷ்மணம் வாக்யமப்ரவீத் ।
ஸீக்ரம் லக்ஷ்மண ஜாநீஹி
கத்வா கோதாவரீம் நதீம் ।
அபி கோதாவரீம் ஸீதா
பத்மாந்யாநயிதும் கதா ॥
sa dīnō dīnayā vācā
lakṣmaṇaṃ vākyamabravīt ।
ṡīghraṃ lakṣmaṇa jānīhi
gatvā gōdāvarīṃ nadīm ।
api gōdāvarīṃ sītā
padmānyānayituṃ gatā ॥
Rāma, downcast, said these words
to Lakshmaṇa in a pitiful voice:
O Lakshmaṇa! Go to the river Gōdāvarī quickly
and find out whether Seetā went to
Gōdāvarī to gather lotuses!
3.64.2b-3a ஏவமுக்தஸ்து ராமேண
லக்ஷ்மண: பரவீரஹா ।
நதீம் கோதாவரீம் ரம்யாம்
ஜகாம லகுவிக்ரம: ॥
ēvamuktastu rāmēṇa
lakṣmaṇaḥ paravīrahā ।
nadīṃ gōdāvarīṃ ramyām
jagāma laghuvikramaḥ ॥
Thus told by Rāma,
Lakshmaṇa, the destroyer of adversaries,
went swiftly to the delightful river Gōdāvarī.
3.64.3b-4a தாம் லக்ஷ்மணஸ்தீர்தவதீ
விசித்வா ராமமப்ரவீத் ।
நைநாம் பஸ்யாமி தீர்தேஷு
க்ரோஸதோ ந ஸ்ருணோதி மே ॥
tāṃ lakṣmaṇastīrthavatī
vicitvā rāmamabravīt ।
naināṃ paṡyāmi tīrthēṣu
krōṡatō na ṡṛṇōti mē ॥
After searching that river of many beaches,
Lakshmaṇa (came back) and told Rāma:
‘I could not see her anywhere on the beaches;
I shouted out loud for her but there was no response!’
3.64.4b-5a கம் நு வா தேஸமாபந்நா
வைதேஹீ க்லேஸநாஸிநீ ।
ந ஹ்யஹம் வேத தம் தேஸம்
யத்ர ஸா ஜநகாத்மஜா ॥
kaṃ nu vā dēṡamāpannā
vaidēhī klēṡanāṡinī ।
na hyahaṃ vēda taṃ dēṡam
yatra sā janakātmajā ॥
Where could Vaidēhi, who could dispel our sorrows, be?
I do not know where the daughter of Janaka is.
3.64.5b-6 லக்ஷ்மணஸ்ய வசஸ்ஸ்ருத்வா
தீநஸ்ஸந்தாபமோஹித: ।
ராமஸ்ஸமபிசக்ராம
ஸ்வயம் கோதாவரீம் நதீம் ।
ஸ தாமுபஸ்திதோ ராம:
க்வ ஸீதேத்யேவமப்ரவீத் ॥
lakṣmaṇasya vacaṡṡrutvā
dīnassantāpamōhitaḥ ।
rāmassamabhicakrāma
svayaṃ gōdāvarīṃ nadīm ।
sa tāmupasthitō rāmaḥ
kva sītētyēvamabravīt ॥
On hearing the words of Lakshmaṇa,
Rāma, downcast, troubled and dazed,
himself went to the river Gōdāvarī.
and going close to it, asked: ‘Where is Seetā?’
3.64.7 பூதாநி ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரேண
வதார்ஹேண ஹ்ருதாமிதி ।
ந தாம் ஸஸம்ஸூ ராமாய
ததா கோதாவரீ நதி ॥
bhūtāni rākṣasēndrēṇa
vadhārhēṇa hṛtāmiti ।
na tāṃ ṡaṡaṃsū rāmāya
tathā gōdāvarī nadi ॥
Neither the elements there,
nor the river Gōdāvarī told Rāma
that she was abducted by
the lord of Rakshasas, who deserved to be killed.
3.64.8 தத: ப்ரசோதிதா பூதை:
ஸம்ஸாஸ்மத்தாம் ப்ரியாமிதி ।
ந து ஸாऽப்யவதத்ஸீதாம்
ப்ருஷ்டா ராமேண ஸோசதா ॥
tataḥ pracōditā bhūtaiḥ
ṡaṃsāsmattāṃ priyāmiti ।
na tu sā'bhyavadatsītām
pṛṣṭā rāmēṇa ṡōcatā ॥
Even though the elements encouraged,
‘please tell him about his beloved’,
she (Gōdāvarī) did not say a word
about Seetā to Rāma, who was asking thus in grief.
3.64.9 ராவணஸ்ய து தத்ரூபம்
கர்மாணி ச துராத்மந: ।
த்யாத்வா பயாத்து வைதேஹீம்
ஸா நதீ ந ஸஸம்ஸ தாம் ॥
rāvaṇasya tu tadrūpam
karmāṇi ca durātmanaḥ ।
dhyātvā bhayāttu vaidēhīm
sā nadī na ṡaṡaṃsa tām ॥
Thinking of the form and deeds
of the evil minded Rāvaṇa,
the river was gripped with fear and
did not say anything about Vaidēhi.
3.64.10 நிராஸஸ்து தயா நத்யா
ஸீதாயா தர்ஸநே க்ருத: ।
உவாச ராமஸ்ஸௌமித்ரிம்
ஸீதாதர்ஸநகர்ஸித: ॥
nirāṡastu tayā nadyā
sītāyā darṡanē kṛtaḥ ।
uvāca rāmassaumitrim
sītādarṡanakarṡitaḥ ॥
Rāma, whose heart was aching to see Seetā,
said these words to Sowmitri,
with his hopes dashed by the river:
3.64.11-12a ஏஷா கோதாவரீ ஸௌம்ய
கிம்சிந்ந ப்ரதி பாஷதே ।
கிம் நு லக்ஷ்மண வக்ஷ்யாமி
ஸமேத்ய ஜநகம் வச: ।
மாதரம் சைவ வைதேஹ்யா
விநா தாமஹமப்ரியம் ॥
ēṣā gōdāvarī saumya
kiṃcinna prati bhāṣatē ।
kiṃ nu lakṣmaṇa vakṣyāmi
samētya janakaṃ vacaḥ ।
mātaraṃ caiva vaidēhyā
vinā tāmahamapriyam ॥
O gentle one! This Gōdāvarī does not say even a word.
What terrible words should I tell, O Lakshmaa,
when I meet Janaka and her mother
without Vaidēhi (by my side)?
3.64.12b-13a யா மே ராஜ்யவிஹீநஸ்ய
வநே வந்யேந ஜீவத: ।
ஸர்வம் வ்யபநயேச்சோகம்
வைதேஹீ க்வ நு ஸா கதா ॥
yā mē rājyavihīnasya
vanē vanyēna jīvataḥ ।
sarvaṃ vyapanayēcchōkam
vaidēhī kva nu sā gatā ॥
Where did Vaidēhi, who used to wipe off
my gloom over losing the kingdom
and surviving on the wild products of the Vana, go?
3.64.13b-14a ஜ்ஞாதிபக்ஷவிஹீநஸ்ய
ராஜபுத்ரீமபஸ்யத: ।
மந்யே தீர்கா பவிஷ்யந்தி
ராத்ரயோ மம ஜாக்ரத: ॥
jñātipakṣavihīnasya
rājaputrīmapaṡyataḥ ।
manyē dīrghā bhaviṣyanti
rātrayō mama jāgrataḥ ॥
Being away from kith and kin
and not seeing the princess,
I think I will have long nights ahead
that keep me awake.
3.64.14b-15a கோதாவரீம் ஜநஸ்தாநம்
இமம் ப்ரஸ்ரவணம் கிரிம் ।
ஸர்வாண்யநுகமிஷ்யாமி
யதி ஸீதா ஹி த்ருஸ்யதே ॥
gōdāvarīṃ janasthānam
imaṃ prasravaṇaṃ girim ।
sarvāṇyanugamiṣyāmi
yadi sītā hi dṛṡyatē ॥
I will trek all over this Gōdāvarī,
this Janasthāna and this Prasravaṇa mountain;
I hope I will see Seetā.
3.64.15b-16a ஏதே ம்ருகா மஹாவீர
மாமீக்ஷந்தே முஹுர்முஹு: ।
வக்துகாமா இவ ஹி மே
இங்கிதாந்யுபலக்ஷயே ॥
ētē mṛgā mahāvīra
māmīkṣantē muhurmuhuḥ ।
vaktukāmā iva hi mē
iṅgitānyupalakṣayē ॥
These deer are looking at me again and again;
O great Veera! I can see from their faces
that they want to tell me something.
3.64.16b-17a தாம்ஸ்து த்ருஷ்ட்வா நரவ்யாக்ரோ
ராகவ: ப்ரத்யுவாச ஹ ।
க்வ ஸீதேதி நிரீக்ஷந்வை
பாஷ்பஸம்ருத்தயா த்ருஸா ॥
tāṃstu dṛṣṭvā naravyāghrō
rāghavaḥ pratyuvāca ha ।
kva sītēti nirīkṣanvai
bāṣpasaṃruddhayā dṛṡā ॥
Rāghava, the tiger among men looked at them
and asked ‘Where is Seetā?’,
while scanning around with teary eyes.
3.64.17b-19a ஏவமுக்தா நரேந்த்ரேண
தே ம்ருகாஸ்ஸஹஸோத்திதா: ।
தக்ஷிணாபிமுகாஸ்ஸர்வே
தர்ஸயந்தோ நபஸ்ஸ்தலம் ।
மைதிலீ ஹ்ரியமாணா ஸா
திஸம் யாமந்வபத்யத ।
தேந மார்கேண தாவந்தோ
நிரீக்ஷந்தே நராதிபம் ॥
ēvamuktā narēndrēṇa
tē mṛgāssahasōtthitāḥ ।
dakṣiṇābhimukhāssarvē
darṡayantō nabhassthalam ।
maithilī hriyamāṇā sā
diṡaṃ yāmanvapadyata ।
tēna mārgēṇa dhāvantō
nirīkṣantē narādhipam ॥
Thus asked by the lord of the people,
all those animals got up at once,
and facing south and pointing to the sky,
they ran in the direction along which
Maithili had been carried off,
while continuing to look at him.
3.64.19b-20a யேந மார்கம் ச பூமிம் ச
நிரீக்ஷந்தே ஸ்ம தே ம்ருகா: ।
புநர்நதந்தோ கச்சந்தி
லக்ஷ்மணேநோபலக்ஷிதா: ॥
yēna mārgaṃ ca bhūmiṃ ca
nirīkṣantē sma tē mṛgāḥ ।
punarnadantō gacchanti
lakṣmaṇēnōpalakṣitāḥ ॥
Lakshmaṇa understood why the deer were making sounds,
looking in that direction and going in that route.
3.64.20b-21a தேஷாம் வசநஸர்வஸ்வம்
லக்ஷயாமாஸ சேங்கிதம் ।
உவாச லக்ஷ்மணோ ஜ்யேஷ்டம்
தீமாந்ப்ராதரமார்தவத் ॥
tēṣāṃ vacanasarvasvam
lakṣayāmāsa cēṅgitam ।
uvāca lakṣmaṇō jyēṣṭham
dhīmānbhrātaramārtavat ॥
Lakshmaṇa, being the smart one that he was,
recognized the gestures made by them
that conveyed all that they wanted to say.
Then, downcast, he said to his brother:
3.64.21b-23a க்வ ஸிதேதி த்வயா ப்ருஷ்டா
யதேமே ஸஹஸோத்திதா: ।
தர்ஸயந்தி க்ஷிதிம் சைவ
தக்ஷிணாம் ச திஸம் ம்ருகா: ।
ஸாது கச்சாவஹே தேவ
திஸமேதாம் ஹி நைர்ருதீம் ।
யதி ஸ்யாதாகம: கஸ்சித்
ஆர்யா வா ஸாऽத லக்ஷ்யதே ॥
kva sitēti tvayā pṛṣṭā
yathēmē sahasōtthitāḥ ।
darṡayanti kṣitiṃ caiva
dakṣiṇāṃ ca diṡaṃ mṛgāḥ ।
sādhu gacchāvahē dēva
diṡamētāṃ hi nairṛtīm ।
yadi syādāgamaḥ kaṡcit
āryā vā sā'tha lakṣyatē ॥
Since the deer, questioned by you about Seetā,
rose up at once and pointed to
the earth in the southerly direction,
we shall do well, my lord, to go in
this south-westerly direction;
we may find a clue or even see that noble lady! The deer point in the southerly direction, but Lakshmaṇa leads Rāma in the south-westerly direction. Certain corruption of the text, by the vagaries of time, is suspected here. In the next Ṡlōka, we see Rāma going in the southerly direction, as expected.
3.64.23b-24a பாடமித்யேவ காகுத்த்ஸ:
ப்ரஸ்திதோ தக்ஷிணாம் திஸம் ।
லக்ஷ்மணாநுகதஸஸ்ரீமாந்
வீக்ஷமாணோ வஸுந்தராம் ॥
bāḍhamityēva kākutthsaḥ
prasthitō dakṣiṇāṃ diṡam ।
lakṣmaṇānugataṡaṡrīmān
vīkṣamāṇō vasundharām ॥
‘Very well’, said Kākutstha, and
he, the blessed one, went towards the south,
scanning the earth, followed by Lakshmaṇa.
3.64.24b-25a ஏவம் ஸம்பாஷமாணௌ தௌ
அந்யோந்யம் ப்ராதராவுபௌ ।
வஸுந்தராயாம் பதிதம்
புஷ்பமார்கமபஸ்யதாம் ॥
ēvaṃ sambhāṣamāṇau tau
anyōnyaṃ bhrātarāvubhau ।
vasundharāyāṃ patitam
puṣpamārgamapaṡyatām ॥
As the brothers were talking with each other,
they saw a trail of flowers fallen on the earth.
3.64.25b-26a தாம் புஷ்பவ்ருஷ்டிம் பதிதாம்
த்ருஷ்ட்வா ராமோ மஹீதலே ।
உவாச லக்ஷ்மணம் வீரோ
து:கிதோ து:கிதம் வச: ॥
tāṃ puṣpavṛṣṭiṃ patitām
dṛṣṭvā rāmō mahītalē ।
uvāca lakṣmaṇaṃ vīrō
duḥkhitō duḥkhitaṃ vacaḥ ॥
On seeing those flowers fallen there,
Rāma, the grief-stricken Veera,
spoke these words to his brother Lakshmaṇa,
who was likewise grieving:
3.64.26b-27a அபிஜாநாமி புஷ்பாணி
தாநீமாநீஹ லக்ஷ்மண ।
பிநத்தாநி ஹி வைதேஹ்யா
மயா தத்தாநி காநநே ॥
abhijānāmi puṣpāṇi
tānīmānīha lakṣmaṇa ।
pinaddhāni hi vaidēhyā
mayā dattāni kānanē ॥
O Lakshmaṇa, I recognize these flowers!
These are the flowers given by me
in the forest and worn by Vaidēhi!
3.64.27b-28a மந்யே ஸூர்யஸ்ச வாயுஸ்ச
மேதிநீ ச யஸஸ்விநீ ।
அபிரக்ஷந்தி புஷ்பாணி
ப்ரகுர்வந்தோ மம ப்ரியம் ॥
manyē sūryaṡca vāyuṡca
mēdinī ca yaṡasvinī ।
abhirakṣanti puṣpāṇi
prakurvantō mama priyam ॥
I think that the sun, the wind and
the well famed earth have preserved
the flowers to please me.

ராஜபுத்ரீமபஸ்யத: ।
மந்யே தீர்கா பவிஷ்யந்தி
ராத்ரயோ மம ஜாக்ரத: ॥
jñātipakṣavihīnasya
rājaputrīmapaṡyataḥ ।
manyē dīrghā bhaviṣyanti
rātrayō mama jāgrataḥ ॥
Being away from kith and kin
and not seeing the princess,
I think I will have long nights ahead
that keep me awake.
3.64.14b-15a கோதாவரீம் ஜநஸ்தாநம்
இமம் ப்ரஸ்ரவணம் கிரிம் ।
ஸர்வாண்யநுகமிஷ்யாமி
யதி ஸீதா ஹி த்ருஸ்யதே ॥
gōdāvarīṃ janasthānam
imaṃ prasravaṇaṃ girim ।
sarvāṇyanugamiṣyāmi
yadi sītā hi dṛṡyatē ॥
I will trek all over this Gōdāvarī,
this Janasthāna and this Prasravaṇa mountain;
I hope I will see Seetā.
3.64.15b-16a ஏதே ம்ருகா மஹாவீர
மாமீக்ஷந்தே முஹுர்முஹு: ।
வக்துகாமா இவ ஹி மே
இங்கிதாந்யுபலக்ஷயே ॥
ētē mṛgā mahāvīra
māmīkṣantē muhurmuhuḥ ।
vaktukāmā iva hi mē
iṅgitānyupalakṣayē ॥
These deer are looking at me again and again;
O great Veera! I can see from their faces
that they want to tell me something.
3.64.16b-17a தாம்ஸ்து த்ருஷ்ட்வா நரவ்யாக்ரோ
ராகவ: ப்ரத்யுவாச ஹ ।
க்வ ஸீதேதி நிரீக்ஷந்வை
பாஷ்பஸம்ருத்தயா த்ருஸா ॥
tāṃstu dṛṣṭvā naravyāghrō
rāghavaḥ pratyuvāca ha ।
kva sītēti nirīkṣanvai
bāṣpasaṃruddhayā dṛṡā ॥
Rāghava, the tiger among men looked at them
and asked ‘Where is Seetā?’,
while scanning around with teary eyes.
3.64.17b-19a ஏவமுக்தா நரேந்த்ரேண
தே ம்ருகாஸ்ஸஹஸோத்திதா: ।
தக்ஷிணாபிமுகாஸ்ஸர்வே
தர்ஸயந்தோ நபஸ்ஸ்தலம் ।
மைதிலீ ஹ்ரியமாணா ஸா
திஸம் யாமந்வபத்யத ।
தேந மார்கேண தாவந்தோ
நிரீக்ஷந்தே நராதிபம் ॥
ēvamuktā narēndrēṇa
tē mṛgāssahasōtthitāḥ ।
dakṣiṇābhimukhāssarvē
darṡayantō nabhassthalam ।
maithilī hriyamāṇā sā
diṡaṃ yāmanvapadyata ।
tēna mārgēṇa dhāvantō
nirīkṣantē narādhipam ॥
Thus asked by the lord of the people,
all those animals got up at once,
and facing south and pointing to the sky,
they ran in the direction along which
Maithili had been carried off,
while continuing to look at him.
3.64.19b-20a யேந மார்கம் ச பூமிம் ச
நிரீக்ஷந்தே ஸ்ம தே ம்ருகா: ।
புநர்நதந்தோ கச்சந்தி
லக்ஷ்மணேநோபலக்ஷிதா: ॥
yēna mārgaṃ ca bhūmiṃ ca
nirīkṣantē sma tē mṛgāḥ ।
punarnadantō gacchanti
lakṣmaṇēnōpalakṣitāḥ ॥
Lakshmaṇa understood why the deer were making sounds,
looking in that direction and going in that route.
3.64.20b-21a தேஷாம் வசநஸர்வஸ்வம்
லக்ஷயாமாஸ சேங்கிதம் ।
உவாச லக்ஷ்மணோ ஜ்யேஷ்டம்
தீமாந்ப்ராதரமார்தவத் ॥
tēṣāṃ vacanasarvasvam
lakṣayāmāsa cēṅgitam ।
uvāca lakṣmaṇō jyēṣṭham
dhīmānbhrātaramārtavat ॥
Lakshmaṇa, being the smart one that he was,
recognized the gestures made by them
that conveyed all that they wanted to say.
Then, downcast, he said to his brother:
3.64.21b-23a க்வ ஸிதேதி த்வயா ப்ருஷ்டா
யதேமே ஸஹஸோத்திதா: ।
தர்ஸயந்தி க்ஷிதிம் சைவ
தக்ஷிணாம் ச திஸம் ம்ருகா: ।
ஸாது கச்சாவஹே தேவ
திஸமேதாம் ஹி நைர்ருதீம் ।
யதி ஸ்யாதாகம: கஸ்சித்
ஆர்யா வா ஸாऽத லக்ஷ்யதே ॥
kva sitēti tvayā pṛṣṭā
yathēmē sahasōtthitāḥ ।
darṡayanti kṣitiṃ caiva
dakṣiṇāṃ ca diṡaṃ mṛgāḥ ।
sādhu gacchāvahē dēva
diṡamētāṃ hi nairṛtīm ।
yadi syādāgamaḥ kaṡcit
āryā vā sā'tha lakṣyatē ॥
Since the deer, questioned by you about Seetā,
rose up at once and pointed to
the earth in the southerly direction,
we shall do well, my lord, to go in
this south-westerly direction;
we may find a clue or even see that noble lady! The deer point in the southerly direction, but Lakshmaṇa leads Rāma in the south-westerly direction. Certain corruption of the text, by the vagaries of time, is suspected here. In the next Ṡlōka, we see Rāma going in the southerly direction, as expected.
3.64.23b-24a பாடமித்யேவ காகுத்த்ஸ:
ப்ரஸ்திதோ தக்ஷிணாம் திஸம் ।
லக்ஷ்மணாநுகதஸஸ்ரீமாந்
வீக்ஷமாணோ வஸுந்தராம் ॥
bāḍhamityēva kākutthsaḥ
prasthitō dakṣiṇāṃ diṡam ।
lakṣmaṇānugataṡaṡrīmān
vīkṣamāṇō vasundharām ॥
‘Very well’, said Kākutstha, and
he, the blessed one, went towards the south,
scanning the earth, followed by Lakshmaṇa.
3.64.24b-25a ஏவம் ஸம்பாஷமாணௌ தௌ
அந்யோந்யம் ப்ராதராவுபௌ ।
வஸுந்தராயாம் பதிதம்
புஷ்பமார்கமபஸ்யதாம் ॥
ēvaṃ sambhāṣamāṇau tau
anyōnyaṃ bhrātarāvubhau ।
vasundharāyāṃ patitam
puṣpamārgamapaṡyatām ॥
As the brothers were talking with each other,
they saw a trail of flowers fallen on the earth.
3.64.25b-26a தாம் புஷ்பவ்ருஷ்டிம் பதிதாம்
த்ருஷ்ட்வா ராமோ மஹீதலே ।
உவாச லக்ஷ்மணம் வீரோ
து:கிதோ து:கிதம் வச: ॥
tāṃ puṣpavṛṣṭiṃ patitām
dṛṣṭvā rāmō mahītalē ।
uvāca lakṣmaṇaṃ vīrō
duḥkhitō duḥkhitaṃ vacaḥ ॥
On seeing those flowers fallen there,
Rāma, the grief-stricken Veera,
spoke these words to his brother Lakshmaṇa,
who was likewise grieving:
3.64.26b-27a அபிஜாநாமி புஷ்பாணி
தாநீமாநீஹ லக்ஷ்மண ।
பிநத்தாநி ஹி வைதேஹ்யா
மயா தத்தாநி காநநே ॥
abhijānāmi puṣpāṇi
tānīmānīha lakṣmaṇa ।
pinaddhāni hi vaidēhyā
mayā dattāni kānanē ॥
O Lakshmaṇa, I recognize these flowers!
These are the flowers given by me
in the forest and worn by Vaidēhi!
3.64.27b-28a மந்யே ஸூர்யஸ்ச வாயுஸ்ச
மேதிநீ ச யஸஸ்விநீ ।
அபிரக்ஷந்தி புஷ்பாணி
ப்ரகுர்வந்தோ மம ப்ரியம் ॥
manyē sūryaṡca vāyuṡca
mēdinī ca yaṡasvinī ।
abhirakṣanti puṣpāṇi
prakurvantō mama priyam ॥
I think that the sun, the wind and
the well famed earth have preserved
the flowers to please me.
