3.51.22 பரிஸ்ராந்தம் து தம் த்ருஷ்டவா
ஜரயா பக்ஷியூதபம் ।
உத்பபாத புநர்ஹ்ருஷ்டோ
மைதிலீம் க்ருஹ்ய ராவண: ॥
pariṡrāntaṃ tu taṃ dṛṣṭavā
jarayā pakṣiyūthapam ।
utpapāta punarhṛṣṭō
maithilīṃ gṛhya rāvaṇaḥ ॥
Noting that the king of birds
was exhausted because of old age
Rāvaṇa rose into the sky happily again,
taking Maithili with him.
3.51.23 தம் ப்ரஹ்ருஷ்டம் நிதாயாங்கே
கச்சந்தம் ஜநகாத்மஜாம் ।
க்ருத்ரராஜஸ்ஸமுத்பத்ய
ஸமபித்ருத்ய ராவணம் ।
ஸமாவார்ய மஹாதேஜா
ஜடாயுரிதமப்ரவீத் ॥
taṃ prahṛṣṭaṃ nidhāyāṅkē
gacchantaṃ janakātmajām ।
gṛdhrarājassamutpatya
samabhidrutya rāvaṇam ।
samāvārya mahātējā
jaṭāyuridamabravīt ॥
Seeing him go away, rejoicing,
with the daughter of Janaka on his lap,
the mighty strong Jaṭāyu, the king of eagles
got up and pursued Rāvaṇa,
blocked his way, and said:
3.51.24 வஜ்ரஸம்ஸ்பர்ஸபாணஸ்ய
பார்யாம் ராமஸ்ய ராவண ।
அல்பபுத்தே ஹரஸ்யேநாம்
வதாய கலு ரக்ஷஸாம் ॥
vajrasaṃsparṡabāṇasya
bhāryāṃ rāmasya rāvaṇa ।
alpabuddhē harasyēnām
vadhāya khalu rakṣasām ॥
O Rāvaṇa, you pinhead!
You are abducting Rāma’s wife
only to have all the Rākshasas killed
by his arrows that strike like Vajra.
3.51.25 ஸமித்ரபந்துஸ்ஸாமாத்ய:
ஸபலஸ்ஸபரிச்சத: ।
விஷபாநம் பிபஸ்யேதத்
பிபாஸித இவோதகம் ॥
samitrabandhussāmātyaḥ
sabalassaparicchadaḥ ।
viṣapānaṃ pibasyētat
pipāsita ivōdakam ॥
Like a thirsty person drinking water,
you along with your friends,
relations, ministers, army and retinue
are drinking this poison!
3.51.26 அநுபந்தமஜாநந்த:
கர்மணாமவிசக்ஷணா: ।
ஸீக்ரமேவ விநஸ்யந்தி
யதா த்வம் விநஸிஷ்யஸி ॥
anubandhamajānantaḥ
karmaṇāmavicakṣaṇāḥ ।
ṡīghramēva vinaṡyanti
yathā tvaṃ vinaṡiṣyasi ॥
Men who cannot foresee the
inevitable consequences of their deeds,
will perish soon enough, and so will you.
3.51.27 பத்தஸ்த்வம் காலபாஸேந
க்வ கதஸ்தஸ்ய மோக்ஷ்யஸே ।
வதாய படிஸம் க்ருஹ்ய
ஸாமிஷம் ஜலஜோ யதா ॥
baddhastvaṃ kālapāṡēna
kva gatastasya mōkṣyasē ।
vadhāya baḍiṡaṃ gṛhya
sāmiṣaṃ jalajō yathā ॥
With the noose of death tied around you
where will you go to find relief?
You are like a fish that swallowed
the hook along with the bait!
3.51.28 ந ஹி ஜாது துராதர்ஷௌ
காகுத்ஸ்தௌ தவ ராவண ।
தர்ஷணம் சாஸ்ரமஸ்யாஸ்ய
க்ஷமிஷ்யேதே து ராகவௌ ॥
na hi jātu durādharṣau
kākutsthau tava rāvaṇa ।
dharṣaṇaṃ cāṡramasyāsya
kṣamiṣyētē tu rāghavau ॥
O Rāvaṇa! Never will the unassailable
descendants of Kakutstha and Raghu,
forgive the violation of their Āṡrama.
3.51.29 யதா த்வயா க்ருதம் கர்ம
பீருணா லோககர்ஹிதம் ।
தஸ்கராசரிதோ மார்கோ
நைஷ வீரநிஷேவித: ॥
yathā tvayā kṛtaṃ karma
bhīruṇā lōkagarhitam ।
taskarācaritō mārgō
naiṣa vīraniṣēvitaḥ ॥
Your cowardly deed, which
all the world would censure,
is in line with what a
thief, not a hero, would do.
3.51.30 யுத்யஸ்வ யதி ஸூரோऽஸி
முஹூர்தம் திஷ்ட ராவண ।
ஸயிஷ்யஸே ஹதோ பூமௌ
யதாபூர்வம் கரஸ்ததா ॥
yudhyasva yadi ṡūrō'si
muhūrtaṃ tiṣṭha rāvaṇa ।
ṡayiṣyasē hatō bhūmau
yathāpūrvaṃ kharastathā ॥
If you are truly valiant, O Rāvaṇa,
hold on for a second and fight with me!
You will fall dead on the ground
like Khara did earlier. This Ṡlōka is same as 3.50.22b-23a.
3.51.31 பரேதகாலே புருஷோ
யத்கர்ம ப்ரதிபத்யதே ।
விநாஸாயாத்மநோऽதர்ம்யம்
ப்ரதிபந்நோऽஸி கர்ம தத் ॥
parētakālē puruṣō
yatkarma pratipadyatē ।
vināṡāyātmanō'dharmyaṃ
pratipannō'si karma tat ॥
You are bent on doing such an
unrighteous act, that only
one who is destined to die would insist upon.
3.51.32 பாபாநுபந்தோ வை யஸ்ய
கர்மண: கோ நு தத்புமாந் ।
குர்வீத லோகாதிபதி:
ஸ்வயம்பூர்பகவாநபி ॥
pāpānubandhō vai yasya
karmaṇaḥ kō nu tatpumān ।
kurvīta lōkādhipatiḥ
svayambhūrbhagavānapi ॥
Which man, even if it is the lord of
all worlds, the self-born Bhagawan,
would dare to do what is bound
to have evil consequences?
3.51.33 ஏவமுக்த்வா ஸுபம் வாக்யம்
ஜடாயுஸ்தஸ்ய ரக்ஷஸ: ।
நிபபாத ப்ருஸம் ப்ருஷ்டே
தஸக்ரீவஸ்ய வீர்யவாந் ॥
ēvamuktvā ṡubhaṃ vākyaṃ
jaṭāyustasya rakṣasaḥ ।
nipapāta bhṛṡaṃ pṛṣṭhē
daṡagrīvasya vīryavān ॥
Thus saying all the good words he could,
Jaṭāyu of immense power plunged violently
on the back of the ten-necked Rākshasa.
3.51.34 தம் க்ருஹீத்வா நகைஸ்தீக்ஷ்ணை:
விரராத ஸமந்தத: ।
அதிரூடோ கஜாரோஹி
யதா ஸ்யாத்துஷ்டவாரணம் ॥
taṃ gṛhītvā nakhaistīkṣṇaiḥ
virarāda samantataḥ ।
adhirūḍhō gajārōhi
yathā syādduṣṭavāraṇam ॥
Catching hold of him, he mauled him
all over the body with his sharp talons,
like a mahout mounted on a rogue elephant.
3.51.35 விரராத நகைரஸ்ய
துண்டம் ப்ருஷ்டே ஸமர்பயந் ।
கேஸாம்ஸ்சோத்பாடயாமாஸ
நகபக்ஷமுகாயுத: ॥
virarāda nakhairasya
tuṇḍaṃ pṛṣṭhē samarpayan ।
kēṡāṃṡcōtpāṭayāmāsa
nakhapakṣamukhāyudhaḥ ॥
With his nails, wings and beak for weapons,
he dug his talons and beak deep
into his back and gored it,
and pulled out his hair.
3.51.36 ஸ ததா க்ருத்ரராஜேந
க்லிஸ்யமாநோ முஹுர்முஹு: ।
அமர்ஷஸ்புரிதௌஷ்ட: ஸந்
ப்ராகம்பத ஸ ராவண: ॥
sa tathā gṛdhrarājēna
kliṡyamānō muhurmuhuḥ ।
amarṣasphuritauṣṭhaḥ san
prākampata sa rāvaṇaḥ ॥
Thus repeatedly tormented by the king of eagles,
Rāvaṇa shivered, his lips quivering in anger.
3.51.37 பரிக்ருஹ்ய ச வைதேஹீம்
வாமேநாங்கேந ராவண: ।
தலேநாபிஜகாநார்தோ
ஜடாயும் க்ரோதமூர்சித: ॥
parigṛhya ca vaidēhīṃ
vāmēnāṅkēna rāvaṇaḥ ।
talēnābhijaghānārtō
jaṭāyuṃ krōdhamūrchitaḥ ॥
Rāvaṇa, who lost himself in rage,
quickly pummeled Jaṭāyu with his open palm,
while holding Vaidēhi on his left lap.
3.51.38 ஜடாயுஸ்தமதிக்ரம்ய
துண்டேநாஸ்ய ககாதிப:।
வாமபாஹூந்தஸ ததா
வ்யபாஹரதரிந்தம: ॥
jaṭāyustamatikramya
tuṇḍēnāsya khagādhipa:।
vāmabāhūndaṡa tadā
vyapāharadarindamaḥ ॥
The lord of birds, Jaṭāyu, subduer of the foe,
overpowered him and bit off his ten left arms with his beak.
3.51.39 ஸம்ச்சிந்ந பாஹோ: ஸத்யைவ
பாஹவ: ஸஹஸா அபவந் ।
விஷ ஜ்வாலாவலீ யுக்தா
வல்மீகாத் இவ பந்நகா: ॥
saṃcchinna bāhōḥ sadyaiva
bāhavaḥ sahasā abhavan ।
viṣa jvālāvalī yuktā
valmīkāt iva pannagāḥ ॥
No sooner were the arms severed, than
new ones emerged like serpents
out of an ant-hill spewing rays of venom.
3.51.40 தத: க்ருத்தோ தஸக்ரீவ:
ஸீதாமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய வீர்யவாந் ।
முஷ்டிப்யாம் சரணாப்யாம் ச
க்ருத்ரராஜமபோதயத் ॥
tataḥ kruddhō daṡagrīvaḥ
sītāmutsṛjya vīryavān ।
muṣṭibhyāṃ caraṇābhyāṃ ca
gṛdhrarājamapōthayat ॥
Then the strong and furious ten-necked one
let go of Seetā and pummeled the
king of eagles with his fists and feet.
3.51.41 ததோ முஹூர்தம் ஸம்க்ராமோ
பபூவ அதுல வீர்யயோ: ।
ராக்ஷஸாநாம் ச முக்யஸ்ய
பக்ஷிணாம் ப்ரவரஸ்ய ச ॥
tatō muhūrtam saṃgrāmō
babhūva atula vīryayōḥ ।
rākṣasānāṃ ca mukhyasya
pakṣiṇām pravarasya ca ॥
Then there ensued a fight for a while
between those two of incomparable valor,
the chief of the Rākshasas and
the best among the birds.
3.51.42 தஸ்ய வ்யாயச்சமாநஸ்ய
ராமஸ்யார்தேऽத ராவண: ।
பக்ஷௌ பாதௌ ச பார்ஸ்வௌ ச
கட்கமுத்த்ருத்ய ஸோऽச்சிநத் ॥
tasya vyāyacchamānasya
rāmasyārthē'tha rāvaṇaḥ ।
pakṣau pādau ca pārṡvau ca
khaḍgamuddhṛtya sō'cchinat ॥
Rāvaṇa, drawing the sword,
cut off his wings, flanks and feet
as he exerted himself for Rāma’s cause.
3.51.43 ஸ சிந்நபக்ஷ: ஸஹஸா
ரக்ஷஸா ரௌத்ரகர்மணா ।
நிபபாத ஹதோ க்ருத்ரோ
தரண்யாமல்பஜீவித: ॥
sa chinnapakṣaḥ sahasā
rakṣasā raudrakarmaṇā ।
nipapāta hatō gṛdhrō
dharaṇyāmalpajīvitaḥ ॥
With his wings thus severed
by the ruthless Rākshasa,
the eagle fell down on the ground
his life shortened in an instant.
3.51.44 தம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா பதிதம் பூமௌ
க்ஷதஜார்த்ரம் ஜடாயுஷம் ।
அப்யதாவத வைதேஹீ
ஸ்வபந்துமிவ து:கிதா ॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvā patitaṃ bhūmau
kṣatajārdraṃ jaṭāyuṣam ।
abhyadhāvata vaidēhī
svabandhumiva duḥkhitā ॥
Seeing Jaṭāyu fall on
the ground drenched in blood,
Vaidēhi rushed to his side,
grieving for him as for her own kin.
3.51.45 தம் நீலஜீமூதநிகாஸகல்பம்
ஸுபாண்டுரோரஸ்கமுதாரவீர்யம் ।
ததர்ஸ லங்காதிபதி: ப்ருதிவ்யாம்
ஜடாயுஷம் ஸாந்தமிவாக்நிதாவம் ॥
taṃ nīlajīmūtanikāṡakalpaṃ
supāṇḍurōraskamudāravīryam ।
dadarṡa laṅkādhipatiḥ pṛthivyāṃ
jaṭāyuṣaṃ ṡāntamivāgnidāvam ॥
The lord of Laṅkā beheld
Jaṭāyu of admirable prowess,
his body like a black rain-cloud,
his breast pure white,
fall on the ground like a
forest fire that has died down.
3.51.46 ததஸ்து தம் பத்ரரதம் மஹீதலே
நிபாதிதம் ராவணவேகமர்திதம் ।
புந: ச ஸம்க்ருஹ்ய ஸஸிப்ரபாநநா
ருரோத ஸீதா ஜநகாத்மஜா ததா ॥
tatastu taṃ patrarathaṃ mahītalē
nipātitaṃ rāvaṇavēgamarditam ।
punaḥ ca saṃgṛhya ṡaṡiprabhānanā
rurōda sītā janakātmajā tadā ॥
Then, holding again the bird that
had fallen down on the ground
struck by the force of Rāvaṇa,
Seetā, the daughter of Janaka,
of moon-bright face, wept aloud.

ஸீதாமுத்ஸ்ருஜ்ய வீர்யவாந் ।
முஷ்டிப்யாம் சரணாப்யாம் ச
க்ருத்ரராஜமபோதயத் ॥
tataḥ kruddhō daṡagrīvaḥ
sītāmutsṛjya vīryavān ।
muṣṭibhyāṃ caraṇābhyāṃ ca
gṛdhrarājamapōthayat ॥
Then the strong and furious ten-necked one
let go of Seetā and pummeled the
king of eagles with his fists and feet.
3.51.41 ததோ முஹூர்தம் ஸம்க்ராமோ
பபூவ அதுல வீர்யயோ: ।
ராக்ஷஸாநாம் ச முக்யஸ்ய
பக்ஷிணாம் ப்ரவரஸ்ய ச ॥
tatō muhūrtam saṃgrāmō
babhūva atula vīryayōḥ ।
rākṣasānāṃ ca mukhyasya
pakṣiṇām pravarasya ca ॥
Then there ensued a fight for a while
between those two of incomparable valor,
the chief of the Rākshasas and
the best among the birds.
3.51.42 தஸ்ய வ்யாயச்சமாநஸ்ய
ராமஸ்யார்தேऽத ராவண: ।
பக்ஷௌ பாதௌ ச பார்ஸ்வௌ ச
கட்கமுத்த்ருத்ய ஸோऽச்சிநத் ॥
tasya vyāyacchamānasya
rāmasyārthē'tha rāvaṇaḥ ।
pakṣau pādau ca pārṡvau ca
khaḍgamuddhṛtya sō'cchinat ॥
Rāvaṇa, drawing the sword,
cut off his wings, flanks and feet
as he exerted himself for Rāma’s cause.
3.51.43 ஸ சிந்நபக்ஷ: ஸஹஸா
ரக்ஷஸா ரௌத்ரகர்மணா ।
நிபபாத ஹதோ க்ருத்ரோ
தரண்யாமல்பஜீவித: ॥
sa chinnapakṣaḥ sahasā
rakṣasā raudrakarmaṇā ।
nipapāta hatō gṛdhrō
dharaṇyāmalpajīvitaḥ ॥
With his wings thus severed
by the ruthless Rākshasa,
the eagle fell down on the ground
his life shortened in an instant.
3.51.44 தம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா பதிதம் பூமௌ
க்ஷதஜார்த்ரம் ஜடாயுஷம் ।
அப்யதாவத வைதேஹீ
ஸ்வபந்துமிவ து:கிதா ॥
taṃ dṛṣṭvā patitaṃ bhūmau
kṣatajārdraṃ jaṭāyuṣam ।
abhyadhāvata vaidēhī
svabandhumiva duḥkhitā ॥
Seeing Jaṭāyu fall on
the ground drenched in blood,
Vaidēhi rushed to his side,
grieving for him as for her own kin.
3.51.45 தம் நீலஜீமூதநிகாஸகல்பம்
ஸுபாண்டுரோரஸ்கமுதாரவீர்யம் ।
ததர்ஸ லங்காதிபதி: ப்ருதிவ்யாம்
ஜடாயுஷம் ஸாந்தமிவாக்நிதாவம் ॥
taṃ nīlajīmūtanikāṡakalpaṃ
supāṇḍurōraskamudāravīryam ।
dadarṡa laṅkādhipatiḥ pṛthivyāṃ
jaṭāyuṣaṃ ṡāntamivāgnidāvam ॥
The lord of Laṅkā beheld
Jaṭāyu of admirable prowess,
his body like a black rain-cloud,
his breast pure white,
fall on the ground like a
forest fire that has died down.
3.51.46 ததஸ்து தம் பத்ரரதம் மஹீதலே
நிபாதிதம் ராவணவேகமர்திதம் ।
புந: ச ஸம்க்ருஹ்ய ஸஸிப்ரபாநநா
ருரோத ஸீதா ஜநகாத்மஜா ததா ॥
tatastu taṃ patrarathaṃ mahītalē
nipātitaṃ rāvaṇavēgamarditam ।
punaḥ ca saṃgṛhya ṡaṡiprabhānanā
rurōda sītā janakātmajā tadā ॥
Then, holding again the bird that
had fallen down on the ground
struck by the force of Rāvaṇa,
Seetā, the daughter of Janaka,
of moon-bright face, wept aloud.
