3.49.24 ஹா லக்ஷ்மண மஹாபாஹோ
குருசித்தப்ரஸாதக ।
ஹ்ரியமாணாம் ந ஜாநீஷே
ரக்ஷஸா மாமமர்ஷிணா ॥
hā lakṣmaṇa mahābāhō
gurucittaprasādaka ।
hriyamāṇāṃ na jānīṣē
rakṣasā māmamarṣiṇā ॥
Ah! Lakshmaṇa! O you of the mighty arm,
you who are ever intent on
pleasing your elder brother!
You do not know that I am being
carried off by an enraged Rākshasa!
349.25 ஜீவிதம் ஸுகமர்தாம்ஸ்ச
தர்மஹேதோ: பரித்யஜந் ।
ஹ்ரியமாணாமதர்மேண
மாம் ராகவ ந பஸ்யஸி ॥
jīvitaṃ sukhamarthāṃṡca
dharmahētōḥ parityajan ।
hriyamāṇāmadharmēṇa
māṃ rāghava na paṡyasi ॥
O Rāghava! You have given up your
life, pleasures and goals
for the sake of Dharma!
Yet, you do not pay attention when I am
being carried off in complete abandon of Dharma!
3.49.26 நநு நாமாவிநீதாநாம்
விநேதாऽஸி பரந்தப ।
கதமேவம்விதம் பாபம்
ந த்வம் ஸாஸி ஹி ராவணம் ॥
nanu nāmāvinītānām
vinētā'si parantapa ।
kathamēvaṃvidhaṃ pāpam
na tvaṃ ṡāsi hi rāvaṇam ॥
O scorcher of the foe!
You indeed bring the undisciplined in discipline!
Yet, how is it that you do not exercise your power
over such a sinful one like this Rāvaṇa!
3.49.27 நநு ஸத்யோऽவிநீதஸ்ய
த்ருஸ்யதே கர்மண:பலம் ।
காலோऽப்யங்கீபவத்யத்ர
ஸஸ்யாநாமிவ பக்தயே ॥
nanu sadyō'vinītasya
dṛṡyatē karmaṇaḥphalam ।
kālō'pyaṅgībhavatyatra
sasyānāmiva paktayē ॥
But of course, the results of a
brash act are not seen immediately;
time has to play its part,
just as it does in the ripening of a crop.
3.49.28 த்வம் கர்ம க்ருதவாநேதத்
காலோபஹதசேதந: ।
ஜீவிதாந்தகரம் கோரம்
ராமாத்வ்யஸநமாப்நுஹி ॥
tvaṃ karma kṛtavānētat
kālōpahatacētanaḥ ।
jīvitāntakaraṃ ghōram
rāmādvyasanamāpnuhi ॥
(O Rāvaṇa!) Your senses must have been
undone by the (vagaries of) time
for you to do something like this.
You are destined to confront a terrible fate
that sees the end of your life, from Rāma.
3.49.29 ஹந்தேதாநீம் ஸகாமாஸ்து
கைகேயீ ஸஹ பாந்தவை: ।
ஹ்ரியே யத்தர்மகாமஸ்ய
தர்மபத்நீ யஸஸ்விந: ॥
hantēdānīṃ sakāmāstu
kaikēyī saha bāndhavaiḥ ।
hriyē yaddharmakāmasya
dharmapatnī yaṡasvinaḥ ॥
Perhaps, Kaikēyee and her kindred
would have their wish fulfilled,
with me, who is wedded in Dharma
to that renowned one who always
wishes for Dharma, abducted. At a moment of hardship, it is but natural to think of people who would sympathize with the hardship and people who would celebrate it. Rāma expresses the same feelings, when he spends his first night outside of the palace along with Seetā and Lakshmaṇa (See Ṡlōkas 2.53.6), after he was exiled.
3.49.30 ஆமந்த்ரயே ஜநஸ்தாநே
கர்ணிகாராந்ஸுபுஷ்பிதாந் ।
க்ஷிப்ரம் ராமாய ஸம்ஸத்வம்
ஸீதாம் ஹரதி ராவண: ॥
āmantrayē janasthānē
karṇikārānsupuṣpitān ।
kṣipraṃ rāmāya ṡaṃsadhvam
sītāṃ harati rāvaṇaḥ ॥
I beseech you, O Karṇikāra bushes in bloom,
please tell Rāma quick that
Rāvaṇa is carrying off Seetā!
3.49.31 மால்யவந்தம் ஸிகரிணம்
வந்தே ப்ரஸ்ரவணம் கிரிம் ।
க்ஷிப்ரம் ராமாய ஸம்ஸ த்வம்
ஸீதாம் ஹரதி ராவண: ॥
mālyavantaṃ ṡikhariṇam
vandē prasravaṇaṃ girim ।
kṣipraṃ rāmāya ṡaṃsa tvam
sītāṃ harati rāvaṇaḥ ॥
I make my obeisance to you,
O crested Prasravaṇa abounding in flowers,
please tell Rāma quick that
Rāvaṇa is carrying off Seetā!
3.49.32 ஹம்ஸகாரண்டவாகீர்ணாம்
வந்தே கோதாவரீம் நதீம் ।
க்ஷிப்ரம் ராமாய ஸம்ஸ த்வம்
ஸீதாம் ஹரதி ராவண: ॥
haṃsakāraṇḍavākīrṇām
vandē gōdāvarīṃ nadīm ।
kṣipraṃ rāmāya ṡaṃsa tvam
sītāṃ harati rāvaṇaḥ ॥
I bow to you, Gōdāvarī , crowded
with swans and Kāraṇḍavas;
please tell Rāma quick that
Rāvaṇa is carrying off Seetā!
3.49.33 தைவதாநி ச யாந்யஸ்மிந்
வநே விவிதபாதபே ।
நமஸ்கரோம்யஹம் தேப்யோ
பர்துஸ்ஸம்ஸ்து மாம் ஹ்ருதாம் ॥
daivatāni ca yānyasmin
vanē vividhapādapē ।
namaskarōmyahaṃ tēbhyō
bhartuṡṡaṃstu māṃ hṛtām ॥
O Dēvatas, whoever you might be,
that reside in the different trees in the forest,
I pay my obeisance to you, please
tell my husband that I am being carried off.
3.49.34-35 யாநி காநி சிதப்யத்ர
ஸத்த்வாநி நிவஸந்த்யுத ।
ஸர்வாணி ஸரணம் யாமி
ம்ருகபக்ஷிகணாநபி ।
ஹ்ரியமாணாம் ப்ரியாம் பர்து:
ப்ராணேப்யோऽபி கரீயஸீம் ।
விவஸாऽபஹ்ருதா ஸீதா
ராவணேநேதி ஸம்ஸத ॥
yāni kāni cidapyatra
sattvāni nivasantyuta ।
sarvāṇi ṡaraṇaṃ yāmi
mṛgapakṣigaṇānapi ।
hriyamāṇāṃ priyāṃ bhartuḥ
prāṇēbhyō'pi garīyasīm ।
vivaṡā'pahṛtā sītā
rāvaṇēnēti ṡaṃsata ॥
I beg each and every creature
that lives here, however small it may be,
and each and every bird and animal,
please tell my husband, who loves me
and holds me dearer than life,
that I am helplessly being carried off by Rāvaṇa.
3.49.36 விதித்வா மாம் மஹாபாஹு:
அமுத்ராபி மஹாபல: ।
ஆநேஷ்யதி பராக்ரம்ய
வைவஸ்வதஹ்ருதாமபி ॥
viditvā māṃ mahābāhuḥ
amutrāpi mahābalaḥ ।
ānēṣyati parākramya
vaivasvatahṛtāmapi ॥
He of mighty arm and mighty strength
will find me and bring me back with his prowess,
even if I am carried off by Yama
and even if am kept in a different world.
3.49.37 ஸா ததா கருணா வாசோ
விலபந்தீ ஸுது:கிதா ।
வநஸ்பதிகதம் க்ருத்ரம்
ததர்ஸாऽயதலோசநா ॥
sā tadā karuṇā vācō
vilapantī suduḥkhitā ।
vanaspatigataṃ gṛdhram
dadarṡā'yatalōcanā ॥
The wide-eyed one wailing thus in terrible grief
and saying those pitiable words,
saw the eagle perched on a tree.
3.49.38 ஸா தமுத்வீக்ஷ்ய ஸுஸ்ரோணீ
ராவணஸ்ய வஸம் கதா ।
ஸமாக்ரந்தத்பயபரா
து:கோபஹதயா கிரா ॥
sā tamudvīkṣya suṡrōṇī
rāvaṇasya vaṡaṃ gatā ।
samākrandadbhayaparā
duḥkhōpahatayā girā ॥
On seeing him, she of excellent Kaṭee,
caught in the clutches of Rāvaṇa
and gripped by fear, shouted aloud,
in her grief-stricken tone:
3.49.39 ஜடாயோ பஸ்ய மாமத்ய
ஹ்ரியமாணாமநாதவத் ।
அநேந ராக்ஷஸேந்த்ரேண
கருணம் பாபகர்மணா ॥
jaṭāyō paṡya māmadya
hriyamāṇāmanāthavat ।
anēna rākṣasēndrēṇa
karuṇaṃ pāpakarmaṇā ॥
O Jaṭāyu! look at me, in this pitiful plight now,
being carried off like an orphan,
by this evil lord of Rākshasas!
3.49.40 நைஷ வாரயிதும் ஸக்ய:
தவ க்ரூரோ நிஸாசர: ।
ஸத்வவாந் ஜிதகாஸீ ச
ஸாயுதஸ்சைவ துர்மதி: ॥
naiṣa vārayituṃ ṡakyaḥ
tava krūrō niṡācaraḥ ।
satvavān jitakāṡī ca
sāyudhaṡcaiva durmatiḥ ॥
This night-rover,
who is armed, cruel and wicked,
possessing great strength and
basking in (the glory of) his victories,
cannot be restrained by you.
3.49.41 ராமாய து யதாதத்த்வம்
ஜடாயோ ஹரணம் மம ।
லக்ஷ்மணாய ச தத்ஸர்வம்
ஆக்யாதவ்யமஸேஷத: ॥
rāmāya tu yathātattvam
jaṭāyō haraṇaṃ mama ।
lakṣmaṇāya ca tatsarvam
ākhyātavyamaṡēṣataḥ ॥
O Jaṭāyu! Please tell Rāma and Lakshmaṇa
all about my abduction, as it happened,
without missing any detail.
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே ஏகோநபஞ்சாஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē ēkōnapañcāṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the forty ninth Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
