3.47.26 யேந வித்ராஸிதா லோகா:
ஸதேவாஸுரபந்நகா: ।
அஹம் து ராவணோ நாம
ஸீதே ரக்ஷோகணேஸ்வர: ॥
yēna vitrāsitā lōkāḥ
sadēvāsurapannagāḥ ।
ahaṃ tu rāvaṇō nāma
sītē rakṣōgaṇēṡvaraḥ ॥
O Seetā! I am the lord of the bands of Rākshasas!
My name is Rāvaṇa, of whom all the worlds
including Dēvas, Asuras and Pannagas, are terrified!
3.47.27 த்வாம் து காஞ்சநவர்ணாபாம்
த்ருஷ்ட்வா கௌஸேயவாஸிநீம் ।
ரதிம் ஸ்வகேஷு தாரேஷு
நாதிகச்சாம்யநிந்திதே ॥
tvāṃ tu kāñcanavarṇābhām
dṛṣṭvā kauṡēyavāsinīm ।
ratiṃ svakēṣu dārēṣu
nādhigacchāmyaninditē ॥
O blameless one! Having seen you,
of golden complexion dressed in yellow silks,
I am no more able to find pleasure in my wives!
3.47.28 பஹ்வீநாமுத்தமஸ்த்ரீணாம்
ஆஹ்ருதாநாமிதஸ்தத: ।
ஸர்வாஸாமேவ பத்ரம் தே
மமாக்ரமஹிஷீ பவ ॥
bahvīnāmuttamastrīṇām
āhṛtānāmitastataḥ ।
sarvāsāmēva bhadraṃ tē
mamāgramahiṣī bhava ॥
Be the chief queen among my many wives,
the best of the women I have brought from everywhere!
May all bode well for you!
3.47.29 லங்காநாம ஸமுத்ரஸ்ய
மம மத்யே மஹாபுரீ ।
ஸாகரேண பரிக்ஷிஸ்தா
நிவிஷ்டா நகமூர்தநி ॥
laṅkānāma samudrasya
mama madhyē mahāpurī ।
sāgarēṇa parikṣistā
niviṣṭā nagamūrdhani ॥
The great city by name Laṅkā
that is in the middle of the ocean, is mine.
It is surrounded by the ocean
and is situated on top of a mountain.
3.47.30 தத்ர ஸீதே மயா ஸார்தம்
வநேஷு விஹரிஷ்யஸி ।
ந சாஸ்யாரண்ய வாஸஸ்ய
ஸ்ப்ருஹயிஷ்யஸி பாமிநி ॥
tatra sītē mayā sārdham
vanēṣu vihariṣyasi ।
na cāsyāraṇya vāsasya
spṛhayiṣyasi bhāmini ॥
O Seetā! O lovely lady! You can enjoy
the gardens there along with me.
You will completely forget all
about your stay in the Araṇya.
3.47.31 பஞ்ச தாஸ்யஸ்ஸஹஸ்ராணி
ஸர்வாபரணபூஷிதா: ।
ஸீதே பரிசரிஷ்யந்தி
பார்யா பவஸி மே யதி ॥
pañca dāsyassahasrāṇi
sarvābharaṇabhūṣitāḥ ।
sītē paricariṣyanti
bhāryā bhavasi mē yadi ॥
O Seetā! Once you become my wife,
you will be waited upon by five thousand maids
who are decked with every kind of jewel.
3.47.32 ராவணேநைவமுக்தா து
குபிதா ஜநகாத்மஜா ।
ப்ரத்யுவாசாநவத்யாங்கீ
தமநாத்ருத்ய ராக்ஷஸம் ॥
rāvaṇēnaivamuktā tu
kupitā janakātmajā ।
pratyuvācānavadyāṅgī
tamanādṛtya rākṣasam ॥
When Rāvaṇa said this,
the daughter of Janaka, of perfect figure,
became angry and replied
to that Rākshasa in all contempt:
3.47.33 மஹாகிரிமிவாகம்ப்யம்
மஹேந்த்ரஸத்ருஸம் பதிம் ।
மஹோததிமிவாக்ஷோப்யம்
அஹம் ராமமநுவ்ரதா ॥
mahāgirimivākampyam
mahēndrasadṛṡaṃ patim ।
mahōdadhimivākṣōbhyam
ahaṃ rāmamanuvratā ॥
I am devoted to my husband Rāma,
who is comparable to the great Indra,
who can be moved no more than
a great mountain can be
and who can be shaken no more than
a great ocean can be! Till now, we have seen the soft side of Seetā, in imploring Rāma to take her along with him to the Vana (Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa, Sargas 27 and 29), in imploring him not to get on the wrong side of the Rākshasas (Araṇya Kāṇḍa, Sarga 9) and in asking him to get the golden deer (Araṇya Kāṇḍa, Sarga 43).
Starting now, we will see the lioness in her. All women of character have both these sides in them and they show up when the occasion calls for them.
Her reaction upon hearing ‘Ha Seetā and Ha Lakshmaṇa!’ was panic and worry. But, not after much time has passed, when accosted by the lord of all the Rākshasas, Rāvaṇa himself, she shows no fear. She, indeed, roars like a lioness here.
From now on, we see in her only the sense of regret for the disaster she brought upon herself, Rāma and others, and her grief over the separation from Rāma.
3.47.34 ஸர்வலக்ஷணஸம்பந்நம்
ந்யக்ரோதபரிமண்டலம் ।
ஸத்யஸந்தம் மஹாபாகம்
அஹம் ராமமநுவ்ரதா ॥
sarvalakṣaṇasampannam
nyagrōdhaparimaṇḍalam ।
satyasandhaṃ mahābhāgam
ahaṃ rāmamanuvratā ॥
I am devoted to my greatly blessed husband Rāma,
who always cleaves to truth,
who bears all the marks of human excellence,
and whose expanse rivals that of a banyan tree.
3.47.35 மஹாபாஹும் மஹோரஸ்கம்
ஸிம்ஹவிக்ராந்தகாமிநம் ।
ந்ருஸிம்ஹம் ஸிம்ஹஸங்காஸம்
அஹம் ராமமநுவ்ரதா ॥
mahābāhuṃ mahōraskam
siṃhavikrāntagāminam ।
nṛsiṃhaṃ siṃhasaṅkāṡam
ahaṃ rāmamanuvratā ॥
I am devoted to my husband Rāma
of mighty arm, mighty chest,
who is a lion among men,
who rivals a lion and has
the imposing gait of a lion.
3.47.36 பூர்ணசந்த்ராநநம் ராமம்
ராஜவத்ஸம் ஜிதேந்த்ரியம் ।
ப்ருதுகீர்திம் மஹாத்மாநம்
அஹம் ராமமநுவ்ரதா ॥
pūrṇacandrānanaṃ rāmam
rājavatsaṃ jitēndriyam ।
pṛthukīrtiṃ mahātmānam
ahaṃ rāmamanuvratā ॥
I am devoted to the
enchanting Rāma of full moon-like face,
a royal son, a Mahātma of splendid renown,
who has mastered his senses.
3.47.37 த்வம் புநர்ஜம்புகஸ்ஸிம்ஹீம்
மாமிச்சஸி ஸுதுர்லபாம் ।
நாஹம் ஸக்யா த்வயா ஸ்ப்ரஷ்டும்
ஆதித்யஸ்ய ப்ரபா யதா ॥
tvaṃ punarjambukassiṃhīm
māmicchasi sudurlabhām ।
nāhaṃ ṡakyā tvayā spraṣṭum
ādityasya prabhā yathā ॥
And you, a jackal that you are,
dare covet me, a lioness,
who is completely beyond your reach.
You can no more hope to touch me than
one can the glowing orb of the sun.
3.47.38 பாதபாந்காஞ்சநாந்நூநம்
பஹூந்பஸ்யஸி மந்தபாக் ।
ராகவஸ்ய ப்ரியாம் பார்யாம்
யஸ்த்வமிச்சஸி ராவண ॥
pādapānkāñcanānnūnam
bahūnpaṡyasi mandabhāk ।
rāghavasya priyāṃ bhāryām
yastvamicchasi rāvaṇa ॥
O Rāvaṇa! You certainly are seeing
many golden trees, with your end nearing,
by coveting the dear wife of Rāghava! There is a saying from olden times, that people see golden trees in their vision when they are about to die.
3.47.39 க்ஷுதிதஸ்ய ஹி ஸிம்ஹஸ்ய
ம்ருகஸத்ரோஸ்தரஸ்விந: ।
ஆஸீவிஷஸ்ய வதநாத்
தம்ஷ்ட்ராமாதாதுமிச்சஸி ॥
kṣudhitasya hi siṃhasya
mṛgaṡatrōstarasvinaḥ ।
āṡīviṣasya vadanāt
daṃṣṭrāmādātumicchasi ॥
You are wishing to pick the fang of a
hungry and swift lion that prowls on deer
from its mouth (which is open)
like that of a venomous serpent.
3.47.40 மந்தரம் பர்வதஸ்ரேஷ்டம்
பாணிநா ஹர்துமிச்சஸி ।
காலகூடம் விஷம் பீத்வா
ஸ்வஸ்திமாந்கந்துமிச்சஸி ॥
mandaraṃ parvataṡrēṣṭham
pāṇinā hartumicchasi ।
kālakūṭaṃ viṣaṃ pītvā
svastimāngantumicchasi ॥
You are trying to pluck, by your hand,
Mandara, the giant of mountains.
You want to remain safe even
after drinking deadly poison.
3.47.41 அக்ஷி ஸூச்யா ப்ரம்ருஜஸி
ஜிஹ்வாயா லேக்ஷி ச க்ஷுரம் ।
ராகவஸ்ய ப்ரியாம் பார்யாம்
யோऽதிகந்தும் த்வமிச்சஸி ॥
akṣi sūcyā pramṛjasi
jihvāyā lēkṣi ca kṣuram ।
rāghavasya priyāṃ bhāryām
yō'dhigantuṃ tvamicchasi ॥
By trying to cross with the dear wife of Rāghava,
you are gouging out your eye with a needle
and licking the razor’s sharp edge with your tongue.
3.47.42 அவஸஜ்ய ஸிலாம் கண்டே
ஸமுத்ரம் தர்துமிச்சஸி ।
ஸூர்யாசந்த்ரமஸௌ சோபௌ
பாணிப்யாம் ஹர்துமிச்சஸி ।
யோ ராமஸ்ய ப்ரியாம் பார்யாம்
ப்ரதர்ஷயிதுமிச்சஸி ॥
avasajya ṡilāṃ kaṇṭhē
samudraṃ tartumicchasi ।
sūryācandramasau cōbhau
pāṇibhyāṃ hartumicchasi ।
yō rāmasya priyāṃ bhāryām
pradharṣayitumicchasi ॥
By trying to slight the dear wife of Rāghava,
you are trying to cross a sea
with a boulder tied to your neck and
trying to capture the sun and the moon
with your two bare hands.
.47.43 அக்நிம் ப்ரஜ்வலிதம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
வஸ்த்ரேணாஹர்துமிச்சஸி ।
கால்யாணவ்ருத்தாம் ராமஸ்ய
யோ பார்யாம்ஹர்துமிச்சஸி ॥
agniṃ prajvalitaṃ dṛṣṭvā
vastrēṇāhartumicchasi ।
kālyāṇavṛttāṃ rāmasya
yō bhāryāṃhartumicchasi ॥
By trying to take the virtuous wife of Rāma,
you are trying to hold, with a cloth,
a blazing fire that you happen to see.
3.47.44 அயோமுகாநாம் ஸூலாநாம்
அக்ரே சரிதுமிச்சஸி ।
ராமஸ்ய ஸத்ருஸீம் பார்யாம்
யோऽதிகந்தும் த்வமிச்சஸி ॥
ayōmukhānāṃ ṡūlānām
agrē caritumicchasi ।
rāmasya sadṛṡīṃ bhāryām
yō'dhigantuṃ tvamicchasi ॥
By trying to cross with someone like the wife of Rāma,
you are trying to walk on the iron spikes of a spear.
3.47.45 யதந்தரம் ஸிம்ஹாஸ்ருகாலயோர்வநே
யதந்தரம் ஸ்யந்திநிகா ஸமுத்ரயோ: ।
ஸுராக்ர்ய ஸௌவீரகயோர்யதந்தரம்
ததந்தரம் வை தவ ராகவஸ்ய ச ॥
yadantaraṃ siṃhāṡṛgālayōrvanē
yadantaraṃ syandinikā samudrayōḥ ।
surāgrya sauvīrakayōryadantaraṃ
tadantaraṃ vai tava rāghavasya ca ॥
There is that kind of difference
between you and Rāghava, that there is
between a jackal and a lion,
between a rivulet and an ocean and
between sour gruel and exquisite wine.
3.47.46 யதந்தரம் காஞ்சநஸீஸலோஹயோ-
ர்யதந்தரம் சந்தநவாரிபங்கயோ: ।
யதந்தரம் ஹஸ்திபிடாலயோர்வநே
ததந்தரம் தாஸரதேஸ்தவைவ ச ॥
yadantaraṃ kāñcanasīsalōhayō-
ryadantaraṃ candanavāripaṅkayōḥ ।
yadantaraṃ hastibiḍālayōrvanē
tadantaraṃ dāṡarathēstavaiva ca ॥
There is that kind of difference
between you and the son of Daṡaratha,
that there is between lead and gold,
between mire and sandal paste and
between a house cat and a wild tusker.
3.47.47 யதந்தரம் வாயஸவைநதேயயோ-
ர்யதந்தரம் மத்குமயூரயோரபி ।
யதந்தரம் ஸாரஸக்ருத்ரயோர்வநே
ததந்தரம் தாஸரதேஸ்தவைவ ச ॥
yadantaraṃ vāyasavainatēyayō-
ryadantaraṃ madgumayūrayōrapi ।
yadantaraṃ sārasagṛdhrayōrvanē
tadantaraṃ dāṡarathēstavaiva ca ॥
There is that kind of difference
between you and the son of Daṡaratha,
that there is between a crow and Garuda,
between a cormorant and a peacock, and
between a vulture and a Sārasa bird in the Vana.
3.47.48 தஸ்மிந்ஸஹஸ்ராக்ஷஸமப்ரபாவே
ராமே ஸ்திதே கார்முகபாணபாணௌ ।
ஹ்ருதாபி தேऽஹம் ந ஜராம் கமிஷ்யே
வஜ்ரம் யதா மக்ஷிகயாऽவகீர்ணம் ॥
tasminsahasrākṣasamaprabhāvē
rāmē sthitē kārmukabāṇapāṇau ।
hṛtāpi tē'haṃ na jarāṃ gamiṣyē
vajraṃ yathā makṣikayā'vagīrṇam ॥
With Rāma, whose valor is
comparable to that of the thousand-eyed,
standing (firm and tall)
holding the bow and arrows in his hands,
you cannot digest me,
like a gem swallowed by a fly,
even if you succeed in abducting me.
3.47.49 இதீவ தத்வாக்யமதுஷ்டபாவா
ஸுதுஷ்டமுக்த்வா ரஜநீசரம் தம் ।
காத்ரப்ரகம்பாத்வ்யதிதா பபூவ
வாதோத்ததா ஸா கதலீவ தந்வீ ॥
itīva tadvākyamaduṣṭabhāvā
suduṣṭamuktvā rajanīcaraṃ tam ।
gātraprakampādvyathitā babhūva
vātōddhatā sā kadalīva tanvī ॥
Having thus spoken to that evil night-rover,
she, who was far removed from any evil,
being the delicate one that she was,
her body shaking like a
banana plant in a violent wind,
was taken over by distress.
3.47.50 தாம் வேபமாநாமுபலக்ஷ்ய ஸீதாம்
ஸ ராவணோ ம்ருத்யுஸமப்ரபாவ: ।
குலம் பலம் நாம ச கர்ம சாத்மந:
ஸமாசசக்ஷே பயகாரணார்தம் ॥
tāṃ vēpamānāmupalakṣya sītāṃ
sa rāvaṇō mṛtyusamaprabhāvaḥ ।
kulaṃ balaṃ nāma ca karma cātmanaḥ
samācacakṣē bhayakāraṇārtham ॥
Seeing Seetā thus shaken,
Rāvaṇa, who was as dreadful as death,
recounted his name and lineage,
his power and his (terrible) deeds
in detail, to intimidate her:
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே ஸப்தசத்வாரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē saptacatvāriṃṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the forty seventh Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,

pādapānkāñcanānnūnam
bahūnpaṡyasi mandabhāk ।
rāghavasya priyāṃ bhāryām
yastvamicchasi rāvaṇa ॥
O Rāvaṇa! You certainly are seeing
many golden trees, with your end nearing,
by coveting the dear wife of Rāghava! There is a saying from olden times, that people see golden trees in their vision when they are about to die.
3.47.39 க்ஷுதிதஸ்ய ஹி ஸிம்ஹஸ்ய
ம்ருகஸத்ரோஸ்தரஸ்விந: ।
ஆஸீவிஷஸ்ய வதநாத்
தம்ஷ்ட்ராமாதாதுமிச்சஸி ॥
kṣudhitasya hi siṃhasya
mṛgaṡatrōstarasvinaḥ ।
āṡīviṣasya vadanāt
daṃṣṭrāmādātumicchasi ॥
You are wishing to pick the fang of a
hungry and swift lion that prowls on deer
from its mouth (which is open)
like that of a venomous serpent.
3.47.40 மந்தரம் பர்வதஸ்ரேஷ்டம்
பாணிநா ஹர்துமிச்சஸி ।
காலகூடம் விஷம் பீத்வா
ஸ்வஸ்திமாந்கந்துமிச்சஸி ॥
mandaraṃ parvataṡrēṣṭham
pāṇinā hartumicchasi ।
kālakūṭaṃ viṣaṃ pītvā
svastimāngantumicchasi ॥
You are trying to pluck, by your hand,
Mandara, the giant of mountains.
You want to remain safe even
after drinking deadly poison.
3.47.41 அக்ஷி ஸூச்யா ப்ரம்ருஜஸி
ஜிஹ்வாயா லேக்ஷி ச க்ஷுரம் ।
ராகவஸ்ய ப்ரியாம் பார்யாம்
யோऽதிகந்தும் த்வமிச்சஸி ॥
akṣi sūcyā pramṛjasi
jihvāyā lēkṣi ca kṣuram ।
rāghavasya priyāṃ bhāryām
yō'dhigantuṃ tvamicchasi ॥
By trying to cross with the dear wife of Rāghava,
you are gouging out your eye with a needle
and licking the razor’s sharp edge with your tongue.
3.47.42 அவஸஜ்ய ஸிலாம் கண்டே
ஸமுத்ரம் தர்துமிச்சஸி ।
ஸூர்யாசந்த்ரமஸௌ சோபௌ
பாணிப்யாம் ஹர்துமிச்சஸி ।
யோ ராமஸ்ய ப்ரியாம் பார்யாம்
ப்ரதர்ஷயிதுமிச்சஸி ॥
avasajya ṡilāṃ kaṇṭhē
samudraṃ tartumicchasi ।
sūryācandramasau cōbhau
pāṇibhyāṃ hartumicchasi ।
yō rāmasya priyāṃ bhāryām
pradharṣayitumicchasi ॥
By trying to slight the dear wife of Rāghava,
you are trying to cross a sea
with a boulder tied to your neck and
trying to capture the sun and the moon
with your two bare hands.
.47.43 அக்நிம் ப்ரஜ்வலிதம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
வஸ்த்ரேணாஹர்துமிச்சஸி ।
கால்யாணவ்ருத்தாம் ராமஸ்ய
யோ பார்யாம்ஹர்துமிச்சஸி ॥
agniṃ prajvalitaṃ dṛṣṭvā
vastrēṇāhartumicchasi ।
kālyāṇavṛttāṃ rāmasya
yō bhāryāṃhartumicchasi ॥
By trying to take the virtuous wife of Rāma,
you are trying to hold, with a cloth,
a blazing fire that you happen to see.
3.47.44 அயோமுகாநாம் ஸூலாநாம்
அக்ரே சரிதுமிச்சஸி ।
ராமஸ்ய ஸத்ருஸீம் பார்யாம்
யோऽதிகந்தும் த்வமிச்சஸி ॥
ayōmukhānāṃ ṡūlānām
agrē caritumicchasi ।
rāmasya sadṛṡīṃ bhāryām
yō'dhigantuṃ tvamicchasi ॥
By trying to cross with someone like the wife of Rāma,
you are trying to walk on the iron spikes of a spear.
3.47.45 யதந்தரம் ஸிம்ஹாஸ்ருகாலயோர்வநே
யதந்தரம் ஸ்யந்திநிகா ஸமுத்ரயோ: ।
ஸுராக்ர்ய ஸௌவீரகயோர்யதந்தரம்
ததந்தரம் வை தவ ராகவஸ்ய ச ॥
yadantaraṃ siṃhāṡṛgālayōrvanē
yadantaraṃ syandinikā samudrayōḥ ।
surāgrya sauvīrakayōryadantaraṃ
tadantaraṃ vai tava rāghavasya ca ॥
There is that kind of difference
between you and Rāghava, that there is
between a jackal and a lion,
between a rivulet and an ocean and
between sour gruel and exquisite wine.
3.47.46 யதந்தரம் காஞ்சநஸீஸலோஹயோ-
ர்யதந்தரம் சந்தநவாரிபங்கயோ: ।
யதந்தரம் ஹஸ்திபிடாலயோர்வநே
ததந்தரம் தாஸரதேஸ்தவைவ ச ॥
yadantaraṃ kāñcanasīsalōhayō-
ryadantaraṃ candanavāripaṅkayōḥ ।
yadantaraṃ hastibiḍālayōrvanē
tadantaraṃ dāṡarathēstavaiva ca ॥
There is that kind of difference
between you and the son of Daṡaratha,
that there is between lead and gold,
between mire and sandal paste and
between a house cat and a wild tusker.
3.47.47 யதந்தரம் வாயஸவைநதேயயோ-
ர்யதந்தரம் மத்குமயூரயோரபி ।
யதந்தரம் ஸாரஸக்ருத்ரயோர்வநே
ததந்தரம் தாஸரதேஸ்தவைவ ச ॥
yadantaraṃ vāyasavainatēyayō-
ryadantaraṃ madgumayūrayōrapi ।
yadantaraṃ sārasagṛdhrayōrvanē
tadantaraṃ dāṡarathēstavaiva ca ॥
There is that kind of difference
between you and the son of Daṡaratha,
that there is between a crow and Garuda,
between a cormorant and a peacock, and
between a vulture and a Sārasa bird in the Vana.
3.47.48 தஸ்மிந்ஸஹஸ்ராக்ஷஸமப்ரபாவே
ராமே ஸ்திதே கார்முகபாணபாணௌ ।
ஹ்ருதாபி தேऽஹம் ந ஜராம் கமிஷ்யே
வஜ்ரம் யதா மக்ஷிகயாऽவகீர்ணம் ॥
tasminsahasrākṣasamaprabhāvē
rāmē sthitē kārmukabāṇapāṇau ।
hṛtāpi tē'haṃ na jarāṃ gamiṣyē
vajraṃ yathā makṣikayā'vagīrṇam ॥
With Rāma, whose valor is
comparable to that of the thousand-eyed,
standing (firm and tall)
holding the bow and arrows in his hands,
you cannot digest me,
like a gem swallowed by a fly,
even if you succeed in abducting me.
3.47.49 இதீவ தத்வாக்யமதுஷ்டபாவா
ஸுதுஷ்டமுக்த்வா ரஜநீசரம் தம் ।
காத்ரப்ரகம்பாத்வ்யதிதா பபூவ
வாதோத்ததா ஸா கதலீவ தந்வீ ॥
itīva tadvākyamaduṣṭabhāvā
suduṣṭamuktvā rajanīcaraṃ tam ।
gātraprakampādvyathitā babhūva
vātōddhatā sā kadalīva tanvī ॥
Having thus spoken to that evil night-rover,
she, who was far removed from any evil,
being the delicate one that she was,
her body shaking like a
banana plant in a violent wind,
was taken over by distress.
3.47.50 தாம் வேபமாநாமுபலக்ஷ்ய ஸீதாம்
ஸ ராவணோ ம்ருத்யுஸமப்ரபாவ: ।
குலம் பலம் நாம ச கர்ம சாத்மந:
ஸமாசசக்ஷே பயகாரணார்தம் ॥
tāṃ vēpamānāmupalakṣya sītāṃ
sa rāvaṇō mṛtyusamaprabhāvaḥ ।
kulaṃ balaṃ nāma ca karma cātmanaḥ
samācacakṣē bhayakāraṇārtham ॥
Seeing Seetā thus shaken,
Rāvaṇa, who was as dreadful as death,
recounted his name and lineage,
his power and his (terrible) deeds
in detail, to intimidate her:
இத்யார்ஷே வால்மீகீயே
ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அரண்யகாண்டே ஸப்தசத்வாரிம்ஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē vālmīkīyē
ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē ādikāvyē
araṇyakāṇḍē saptacatvāriṃṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the forty seventh Sarga
in Araṇya Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Maharshi Vālmeeki.
