    Ayodhya Kaanda - Sarga 105
    In the previous Sarga, Rāma tries to convince Bharata to return to Ayōdhyā and rule the kingdom, as per the word of his father.


    In this Sarga Bharata says that since he has the right to the kingdom now, he would like to give it to Rāma. He asserts that the kingdom needs one like Rāma to put it back together and he himself is no comparison for Rāma.


    In the previous Sarga, Rāma takes the approach of Dharma to convince Bharata. In this Sarga he takes a philosophical approach. He says that people do not have as much control as they think they do and that destiny drives their lives.


    He adds that it is not right to give way to grief and misery over the death of their father, as the king had lived a great life and went to heaven by virtue of good deeds and performing Yajñas.


    He tells Bharata to move on with life as it was ordained for him, and says that he would do the same, living in Vana.
    2.105.1 தத: புருஷஸிம்ஹாநாம்
    வ்ருதாநாம் தைஸ்ஸுஹ்ருத்கணை: ।
    ஸோசதாமேவ ரஜநீ
    து:கேந வ்யத்யவர்தத ॥
    tataḥ puruṣasiṃhānāṃ
    vṛtānāṃ taissuhṛdgaṇaiḥ ।
    ṡōcatāmēva rajanī
    duḥkhēna vyatyavartata ॥
    The night passed in gloom
    for those lions among men,
    who, surrounded by their friends,
    mourned their father.
    2.105.2 ரஜந்யாம் ஸுப்ரபாதாயாம்
    ப்ராதரஸ்தே ஸுஹ்ருத்வ்ருதா: ।
    மந்தாகிந்யாம் ஹுதம் ஜப்யம்
    க்ருத்வா ராமமுபாகமந் ॥
    rajanyāṃ suprabhātāyāṃ
    bhrātarastē suhṛdvṛtāḥ ।
    mandākinyāṃ hutaṃ japyaṃ
    kṛtvā rāmamupāgaman ॥
    At dawn after that night,
    the brothers, along with their friends,
    performed Japa and Hōma at Mandākini
    and came to Rāma.
    2.105.3 தூஷ்ணீம் தே ஸமுபாஸீநா
    ந கஸ்சித்கிஞ்சிதப்ரவீத் ।
    பரதஸ்து ஸுஹ்ருந்மத்யே
    ராமம் வசநமப்ரவீத் ॥
    tūṣṇīṃ tē samupāsīnā
    na kaṡcitkiñcidabravīt ।
    bharatastu suhṛnmadhyē
    rāmaṃ vacanamabravīt ॥
    They all sat in silence with no one saying a word.
    Bharata, in the presence of friends,
    then said to Rāma:
    2.105.4 ஸாந்த்விதா மாமிகா மாதா
    தத்தம் ராஜ்யமிதம் மம ।
    தத்ததாமி தவைவாஹம்
    புங்க்ஷ்வ ராஜ்யமகண்டகம் ॥
    sāntvitā māmikā mātā
    dattaṃ rājyamidaṃ mama ।
    taddadāmi tavaivāhaṃ
    bhuṅkṣva rājyamakaṇṭakam ॥
    My mother is appeased,
    now that the kingdom given to me.
    I give the same to you.
    Enjoy this kingdom that is
    free from all encumbrances.
    2.105.5 மஹதேவாம்புவேகேந
    பிந்நஸ்ஸேதுர்ஜலாகமே ।
    துராவாரம் த்வதந்யேந
    ராஜ்யகண்டமிதம் மஹத் ॥
    mahatēvāmbuvēgēna
    bhinnassēturjalāgamē ।
    durāvāraṃ tvadanyēna
    rājyakhaṇḍamidaṃ mahat ॥
    This great realm, which is like a
    dyke breached by a great surge of
    waters at the onset of monsoon,
    can be held in shape by no one except you.
    2.105.6 கதிம் கர இவாஸ்வஸ்ய
    தார்க்ஷ்யஸ்யேவ பதத்ரிண: ।
    அநுகந்தும் ந ஸக்திர்மே
    கதிம் தவ மஹீபதே ॥
    gatiṃ khara ivāṡvasya
    tārkṣyasyēva patatriṇaḥ ।
    anugantuṃ na ṡaktirmē
    gatiṃ tava mahīpatē ॥
    I do not have the power, O master of the earth,
    even to keep pace with you,
    than an ass has, to follow a horse or
    an ordinary bird has, to follow Garuda.
    2.105.7 ஸுஜீவம் நித்யஸஸ்தஸ்ய
    ய: பரைருபஜீவ்யதே ।
    ராம தேந து துர்ஜீவம்
    ய: பராநுபஜீவதி ॥
    sujīvaṃ nityaṡastasya
    yaḥ parairupajīvyatē ।
    rāma tēna tu durjīvaṃ
    yaḥ parānupajīvati ॥
    O Rāma! His life is great, on whom people depend always,
    not the life of him, who depends on others.
    2.105.8-10 யதா து ரோபிதோ வ்ருக்ஷ:
    புருஷேண விவர்தித: ।
    ஹ்ரஸ்வகேண துராரோஹோ
    ரூடஸ்கந்தோ மஹாத்ரும: ॥


    ஸ யதா புஷ்பிதோ பூத்வா
    பலாநி ந விதர்ஸயேத் ।
    ஸ தாம் நாநுபவேத்ப்ரீதிம்
    யஸ்ய ஹேதோ: ப்ரரோபித: ॥


    ஏஷோபமா மஹாபாஹோ
    தமர்தம் வேத்து மர்ஹஸி ।
    யதி த்வமஸ்மாந்வ்ருஷபோ
    பர்தா ப்ருத்யாந்ந ஸாதி ஹி ॥
    yathā tu rōpitō vṛkṣaḥ
    puruṣēṇa vivardhitaḥ ।

    rūḍhaskandhō mahādrumaḥ ॥


    sa yadā puṣpitō bhūtvā
    phalāni na vidarṡayēt ।
    sa tāṃ nānubhavētprītiṃ
    yasya hētōḥ prarōpitaḥ ॥


    ēṣōpamā mahābāhō
    tamarthaṃ vēttu marhasi ।
    yadi tvamasmānvṛṣabhō
    bhartā bhṛtyānna ṡādhi hi ॥
    One may plant a tree and nurture it.
    It may grow to be a large tree with a great trunk
    which a short man would find hard to climb.


    It may even bloom in full, but if it
    does not produce fruit, for which it was raised,
    the one who raised it will not be happy.


    The point of this metaphor, O bull of mighty arm,
    should not be lost on you.
    But that is how it would be, if you, our lord,
    do not rule over us, your dependents.
    2.105.11 ஸ்ரேணயஸ்த்வாம் மஹாராஜ
    பஸ்யந்த்வக்ய்ராஸ்ச ஸர்வஸ: ।
    ப்ரதபந்தமிவாதித்யம்
    ராஜ்யே ஸ்திதமரிந்தமம் ॥
    ṡrēṇayastvāṃ mahārāja
    paṡyantvagyrāṡca sarvaṡaḥ ।
    pratapantamivādityaṃ
    rājyē sthitamarindamam ॥
    O great king! O subduer of the foe!
    Let the premier guilds (of all trades and vocations)
    see you settled in the kingdom
    shining at the top like the blazing sun!
    2.105.12 தவாநுயாநே காகுத்ஸ்த
    மத்தா நர்தந்து குஞ்ஜரா: ।
    அந்த:புரகதா நார்யோ
    நந்தந்து ஸுஸமாஹிதா: ॥
    tavānuyānē kākutstha
    mattā nardantu kuñjarāḥ ।
    antaḥpuragatā nāryō
    nandantu susamāhitāḥ ॥
    Elephants in rut shall trumpet aloud,
    as you enter your kingdom,
    and the women of royalty should rejoice,
    with all their hearts.
    2.105.13 தஸ்ய ஸாத்வித்யமந்யந்த
    நாகரா விவிதா ஜநா: ।
    பரதஸ்ய வசஸ்ஸ்ருத்வா
    ராமம் ப்ரத்யநுயாசத: ॥
    tasya sādhvityamanyanta
    nāgarā vividhā janāḥ ।
    bharatasya vacaṡṡrutvā
    rāmaṃ pratyanuyācataḥ ॥
    Hearing those words of Bharata beseeching Rāma,
    the various people from the city
    approved of what he said.
    2.104.14 தமேவம் து:கிதம் ப்ரேக்ஷ்ய
    விலபந்தம் யஸஸ்விநம் ।
    ராம: க்ருதாத்மா பரதம்
    ஸமாஸ்வாஸயதாத்மவாந் ॥
    tamēvaṃ duḥkhitaṃ prēkṣya
    vilapantaṃ yaṡasvinam ।
    rāmaḥ kṛtātmā bharataṃ
    samāṡvāsayadātmavān ॥
    Seeing Bharata thus lament and cry,
    the resolute and composed Rāma
    consoled him, the renowned one.
    2.105.15 நாऽத்மந: காமகாரோऽஸ்தி
    புருஷோऽயமநீஸ்வர: ।
    இதஸ்சேதரதஸ்சைநம்
    க்ருதாந்த: பரிகர்ஷதி ॥
    nā'tmanaḥ kāmakārō'sti
    puruṣō'yamanīṡvaraḥ ।
    itaṡcētarataṡcainaṃ
    kṛtāntaḥ parikarṣati ॥
    No one can do just as one likes;
    one is not master of oneself.
    Destiny pulls one this way and that.
    2.105.16 ஸர்வே க்ஷயாந்தா: நிசயா:
    பதநாந்தா ஸமுச்ச்ரயா: ।
    ஸம்யோகா விப்ரயோகாந்தா
    மரணாந்தம் ச ஜீவிதம் ॥
    sarvē kṣayāntāḥ nicayāḥ
    patanāntā samucchrayāḥ ।
    saṃyōgā viprayōgāntā
    maraṇāntaṃ ca jīvitam ॥
    All that is garnered will disappear one day;
    men rise only to fall;
    meetings end in partings;
    and all life ends in death.
    2.105.17 யதா பலாநாம் பக்வாநாம்
    நாந்யத்ர பதநாத்பயம் ।
    ஏவம் நரஸ்ய ஜாதஸ்ய
    நாந்யத்ர மரணாத்பயம் ॥
    yathā phalānāṃ pakvānāṃ
    nānyatra patanādbhayam ।
    ēvaṃ narasya jātasya
    nānyatra maraṇādbhayam ॥
    Just as a ripe fruit has nothing to fear but a fall,
    the mortal born has nothing to fear but death.
    2.105.18 யதாऽகாரம் த்ருடஸ்தூணம்
    ஜீர்ணம் பூத்வாऽவஸீததி ।
    ததைவ ஸீதந்தி நரா
    ஜராம்ருத்யுவஸம் கதா: ॥
    yathā'gāraṃ dṛḍhasthūṇaṃ
    jīrṇaṃ bhūtvā'vasīdati ।
    tathaiva sīdanti narā
    jarāmṛtyuvaṡaṃ gatāḥ ॥
    Just as a house, even with strong pillars, decays and collapses,
    men perish, caught in the toils of old age and death.
    2.105.19 அத்யேதி ரஜநீ யா
    து ஸா ந ப்ரதிநிவர்ததே ।
    யாத்யேவ யமுநா பூர்ணா
    ஸமுத்ர முதகாகுலம் ॥
    atyēti rajanī yā
    tu sā na pratinivartatē ।
    yātyēva yamunā pūrṇā
    samudra mudakākulam ॥
    A night that has passed never comes back
    any more than the Yamuna in full swing
    from the sea that is turbulent with water.
    2.105.20 அஹோராத்ராணி கச்சந்தி
    ஸர்வேஷாம் ப்ராணிநாமிஹ ।
    ஆயூம்ஷி க்ஷபயந்த்யாஸு
    க்ரீஷ்மே ஜலமிவாம்ஸவ: ॥
    ahōrātrāṇi gacchanti
    sarvēṣāṃ prāṇināmiha ।
    āyūṃṣi kṣapayantyāṡu
    grīṣmē jalamivāṃṡavaḥ ॥
    Days and nights pass diminishing
    the life of all creatures,
    as the summer sun does water.
    2.105.21 ஆத்மாநமநுஸோச த்வம்
    கிமந்யமநுஸோசஸி ।
    ஆயுஸ்தே ஹீயதே யஸ்ய
    ஸ்திதஸ்ய ச கதஸ்ய ச ॥
    ātmānamanuṡōca tvaṃ
    kimanyamanuṡōcasi ।
    āyustē hīyatē yasya
    sthitasya ca gatasya ca ॥
    Bewail your fate, why mourn another’s?
    For your life is wearing out,
    whether you sit still or go about.
    2.105.22 ஸஹைவ ம்ருத்யுர்வ்ரஜதி
    ஸஹ ம்ருத்யுர்நிஷீததி ।
    கத்வாஸுதீர்கமத்வாநம்
    ஸஹம்ருத்யுர்நிவர்ததே ॥
    sahaiva mṛtyurvrajati
    saha mṛtyurniṣīdati ।
    gatvāsudīrghamadhvānaṃ
    sahamṛtyurnivartatē ॥
    Death follows wherever one goes.
    Death sits when one sits.
    Even after a long journey,
    one returns along with death.
    2.105.23 காத்ரேஷு வலய: ப்ராப்தா:
    ஸ்வேதாஸ்சைவ ஸிரோருஹா: ।
    ஜரயா புருஷோ ஜீர்ண:
    கிம் ஹி க்ருத்வா ப்ரபாவயேத் ॥
    gātrēṣu valayaḥ prāptāḥ
    ṡvētāṡcaiva ṡirōruhāḥ ।
    jarayā puruṣō jīrṇaḥ
    kiṃ hi kṛtvā prabhāvayēt ॥
    Wrinkles appear on the body,
    the hair on the head grows white,
    one becomes worn out with age;
    what can one do to prevail over these?
    2.105.24 நந்த்ந்த்யுதித ஆதித்யே
    நந்தந்த்யஸ்தமிதே ரவௌ ।
    ஆத்மநோ நாவபுத்த்யந்தே
    மநுஷ்யா ஜீவிதக்ஷயம் ॥
    nandntyudita ādityē
    nandantyastamitē ravau ।
    ātmanō nāvabuddhyantē
    manuṣyā jīvitakṣayam ॥
    Men do not notice their life depleting away
    while they rejoice each sunrise and enjoy each sunset.
    2.105.25 ஹ்ருஷ்யந்த்ய்ருதுமுகம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா
    நவம் நவமிஹாகதம் ।
    ருதூநாம் பரிவர்தேந
    ப்ராணிநாம் ப்ராணஸங்க்ஷய: ॥
    hṛṣyantyṛtumukhaṃ dṛṣṭvā
    navaṃ navamihāgatam ।
    ṛtūnāṃ parivartēna
    prāṇināṃ prāṇasaṅkṣayaḥ ॥
    People rejoice the onset of a new cycle of seasons,
    for it brings newness to the Vana.
    But with each turn of the seasons,
    the life of every being is taken away.
    2.105.26-27 யதா காஷ்டம் ச காஷ்டம் ச
    ஸமேயாதாம் மஹார்ணவே ।
    ஸமேத்ய ச வ்யபேயாதாம்
    காலமாஸாத்ய கஞ்சந ॥


    ஏவம் பார்யாஸ்சபுத்ராஸ்ச
    ஜ்ஞாதயஸ்ச தநாநி ச ।
    ஸமேத்ய வ்யவதாவந்தி
    த்ருவோ ஹ்யேஷாம் விநாபவ: ॥
    yathā kāṣṭhaṃ ca kāṣṭhaṃ ca
    samēyātāṃ mahārṇavē ।
    samētya ca vyapēyātāṃ
    kālamāsādya kañcana ॥


    ēvaṃ bhāryāṡcaputrāṡca
    jñātayaṡca dhanāni ca ।
    samētya vyavadhāvanti
    dhruvō hyēṣāṃ vinābhavaḥ ॥
    Just as logs in an ocean drift
    towards and away from one another over time,
    wives, children, kin and wealth
    come to one, only to drift away.
    Separation, indeed, is inevitable.
    2.105.28 நாத்ர கஸ்சித்யதாபாவம்
    ப்ராணீ ஸமபிவர்ததே ।
    தேந தஸ்மிந்ந ஸாமர்த்யம்
    ப்ரேதஸ்யா ஸ்த்யநுஸோசத: ॥
    nātra kaṡcidyathābhāvaṃ
    prāṇī samabhivartatē ।
    tēna tasminna sāmarthyaṃ
    prētasyā styanuṡōcataḥ ॥
    No being can exist as (long as) it wishes.
    Neither the one who is worried about it,
    nor one who is (already) dead
    can do anything about it.
    2.105.29-30 யதா ஹி ஸார்தம் கச்சந்தம்
    ப்ரூயாத்கஸ்சித்பதி ஸ்தித: ।
    அஹமப்யாகமிஷ்யாமி
    ப்ருஷ்டதோ பவதாமிதி ॥


    ஏவம் பூர்வைர்கதோ மார்க:
    பித்ருபைதாமஹோ த்ருவ: ।
    தமாபந்ந: கதம் ஸோசேத்
    யஸ்ய நாஸ்தி வ்யதிக்ரம: ॥
    yathā hi sārthaṃ gacchantaṃ
    brūyātkaṡcitpathi sthitaḥ ।
    ahamapyāgamiṣyāmi
    pṛṣṭhatō bhavatāmiti ॥


    ēvaṃ pūrvairgatō mārgaḥ
    pitṛpaitāmahō dhruvaḥ ।
    tamāpannaḥ kathaṃ ṡōcēt
    yasya nāsti vyatikramaḥ ॥
    Just as a man standing on a road
    joins a caravan on the march,
    saying ‘I too shall go with you ‘,
    everyone has to eventually join the
    road taken by the ancestors in the past.
    Why should anyone worry about
    treading that inevitable path?
    2.105.31 வயஸ: பதமாநஸ்ய
    ஸ்ரோதஸோ வாऽநிவர்திந: ।
    ஆத்மா ஸுகே நியோக்தவ்ய:
    ஸுகபாஜ: ப்ரஜா: ஸ்ம்ருதா: ॥
    vayasaḥ patamānasya
    srōtasō vā'nivartinaḥ ।
    ātmā sukhē niyōktavyaḥ
    sukhabhājaḥ prajāḥ smṛtāḥ ॥
    Since age advances like a
    stream that never turns back,
    people must (constantly) focus on their wellbeing
    to lead a happy life, it is said.
    2.105.32 தர்மாத்மா ஸ ஸுபை: க்ருத்ஸ்நை:
    க்ரதுபிஸ்சாப்ததக்ஷிணை: ।
    ஸ்வர்கம் தஸரத: ப்ராப்த:
    பிதா ந: ப்ருதிவீபதி: ॥
    dharmātmā sa ṡubhaiḥ kṛtsnaiḥ
    kratubhiṡcāptadakṣiṇaiḥ ।
    svargaṃ daṡarathaḥ prāptaḥ
    pitā naḥ pṛthivīpatiḥ ॥
    The King, our father, a Dharmātma
    has gone to heaven,
    having done all good deeds and
    performing Yajñas and giving honorariums.
    2.105.33 ப்ருத்யாநாம் பரணாத்ஸம்யக்
    ப்ரஜாநாம் பரிபாலநாத் ।
    அர்தாதாநாச்ச தர்மேண
    பிதா ந ஸ்த்ரிதிவம்கத: ॥
    bhṛtyānāṃ bharaṇātsamyak
    prajānāṃ paripālanāt ।
    arthādānācca dharmēṇa
    pitā na stridivaṃgataḥ ॥
    That father of ours had gone to heaven
    by supporting his dependents well,
    by providing governance to the subjects and
    by gaining Artha in accordance with Dharma.
    2.105.34 கர்மபிஸ்து ஸுபைரிஷ்டை:
    க்ரதுபிஸ்சாப்ததக்ஷிணை: ।
    ஸ்வர்கம் தஸரத: ப்ராப்த:
    பிதா ந: ப்ருதிவீபதி: ॥
    karmabhistu ṡubhairiṣṭaiḥ
    kratubhiṡcāptadakṣiṇaiḥ ।
    svargaṃ daṡarathaḥ prāptaḥ
    pitā naḥ pṛthivīpatiḥ ॥
    Daṡaratha, our father, the lord of the earth
    attained heaven by his good deeds and
    by performing Yajñas giving proper honorariums.
    2.105.35 இஷ்ட்வா பஹுவிதைர்யஜ்ஞை:
    போகாம்ஸ்சாவாப்ய புஷ்கலாந் ।
    உத்தமம் சாயுராஸாத்ய
    ஸ்வர்கத: ப்ருதிவீபதி: ॥
    iṣṭvā bahuvidhairyajñaiḥ
    bhōgāṃṡcāvāpya puṣkalān ।
    uttamaṃ cāyurāsādya
    svargataḥ pṛthivīpatiḥ ॥
    The lord of the earth has gone to heaven after
    performing many kinds of Yajñas,
    enjoying plenty of luxuries and
    after having a handsomely long life.
    2.105.36 ஆயுருத்தமமாஸாத்ய
    போகாநபி ச ராகவ: ।
    ஸ ந ஸோச்ய: பிதா தாத
    ஸ்வர்கதஸ்ஸத்க்ருதஸ்ஸதாம் ॥
    āyuruttamamāsādya
    bhōgānapi ca rāghavaḥ ।
    sa na ṡōcyaḥ pitā tāta
    svargatassatkṛtassatām ॥
    Rāghava, our father, who has gone to heaven,
    who had a handsomely long life and enjoyed luxuries
    and was lauded by all good men, should not be mourned.
    2.105.37 ஸ ஜீர்ணம் மாநுஷம் தேஹம்
    பரித்யஜ்ய பிதா ஹி ந: ।
    தைவீம்ருத்திமநுப்ராப்தோ
    ப்ரஹ்மலோகவிஹாரிணீம் ॥
    sa jīrṇaṃ mānuṣaṃ dēhaṃ
    parityajya pitā hi naḥ ।
    daivīmṛddhimanuprāptō
    brahmalōkavihāriṇīm ॥
    He, our father, giving up the worn out human body,
    obtained the divine essence
    worthy of treading the world of Brahma.
    2.105.38 தம் து நைவம்வித: கஸ்சித்
    ப்ரஜ்ஞஸ்ஸோசிதுமர்ஹதி ।
    தத்விதோ மத்விதஸ்சாபி
    ஸ்ருதவாந்புத்திமத்தர: ॥
    taṃ tu naivaṃvidhaḥ kaṡcit
    prajñaṡṡōcitumarhati ।
    tatvidhō madvidhaṡcāpi
    ṡrutavānbuddhimattaraḥ ॥
    One like you or like me should not cry for
    someone who was so supremely sagacious
    and was a savant of Ṡastras.
    2.105.39 ஏதே பஹுவிதாஸ்ஸோகா
    விலாபருதிதே ததா ।
    வர்ஜநீயா ஹி தீரேண
    ஸர்வாவஸ்தாஸு தீமதா ॥
    ētē bahuvidhāṡṡōkā
    vilāparuditē tathā ।
    varjanīyā hi dhīrēṇa
    sarvāvasthāsu dhīmatā ॥
    A wise and strong person should
    in no circumstance give way to these
    bouts of grieving, lamentation and tears.
    2.105.40 ஸ ஸ்வஸ்தோ பவ மா ஸோசே:
    யத்வா சாவஸதாம் புரீம் ।
    ததா பித்ரா நியுக்தோऽஸி
    வஸிநா வததாம் வர ॥
    sa svasthō bhava mā ṡōcēḥ
    yatvā cāvasatāṃ purīm ।
    tathā pitrā niyuktō'si
    vaṡinā vadatāṃ vara ॥
    Set your mind at rest, O best among men of words!
    Cease grieving and go and live in the city,
    as you were told to do by our father,
    the one who had tamed his senses.
    2.105.41 யத்ராஹமபி தேநைவ
    நியுக்த: புண்யகர்மணா ।
    தத்ரைவாஹம் கரிஷ்யாமி
    பிதுரார்யஸ்ய ஸாஸநம் ॥
    yatrāhamapi tēnaiva
    niyuktaḥ puṇyakarmaṇā ।
    tatraivāhaṃ kariṣyāmi
    piturāryasya ṡāsanam ॥
    Wherever he, our noble father,
    the one of great deeds, ordained me to be,
    there alone shall I fulfill his command.
    2.105.42 ந மயா ஸாஸநம் தஸ்ய
    த்யக்தும் ந்யாய்யமரிந்தம ।
    தத்த்வயாऽபி ஸதா மாந்யம்
    ஸ வை பந்துஸ்ஸ ந: பிதா ॥
    na mayā ṡāsanaṃ tasya
    tyaktuṃ nyāyyamarindama ।
    tattvayā'pi sadā mānyaṃ
    sa vai bandhussa naḥ pitā ॥
    It is not right for me to
    repudiate his command,
    and you too, O subduer of foe,
    shall respect it always;
    for he is our father, our own kin.
    2.105.43 தத்வச: பிதுரேவாஹம்
    ஸம்மதம் தர்மசாரிண: ।
    கர்மணா பாலயிஷ்யாமி
    வநவாஸேந ராகவ ॥
    tadvacaḥ piturēvāhaṃ
    sammataṃ dharmacāriṇaḥ ।
    karmaṇā pālayiṣyāmi
    vanavāsēna rāghava ॥
    Hence O Rāghava, I, in keeping with Dharma,
    shall follow those words of father,
    which are worthy of regard, by living in Vana.
    2.105.44 தார்மிகேணாந்ருஸம்ஸேந
    நரேண குருவர்திநா ।
    பவிதவ்யம் நரவ்யாக்ர
    பரலோகம் ஜிகீஷதா ॥
    dhārmikēṇānṛṡaṃsēna
    narēṇa guruvartinā ।
    bhavitavyaṃ naravyāghra
    paralōkaṃ jigīṣatā ॥
    O tiger among men!
    One who would like to reign in the after world
    should conduct oneself according to Dharma,
    should be kind (to everyone) and
    should conform to the ways of elders.
    2.105.45 ஆத்மாநமநுதிஷ்டத்வம்
    ஸ்வபாவேந நரர்ஷப ।
    நிஸாம்யது ஸுபம் வ்ருத்தம்
    பிதுர்தஸரதஸ்ய ந: ॥
    ātmānamanutiṣṭhatvaṃ
    svabhāvēna nararṣabha ।
    niṡāmyatu ṡubhaṃ vṛttaṃ
    piturdaṡarathasya naḥ ॥
    Keeping in view the praiseworthy life
    lived by our father Daṡaratha,
    O bull among men, you should follow your natural bent!
    2.105.46 இத்யேவமுக்த்வா வசநம் மஹாத்மா
    பிதுர்நிதேஸ ப்ரதிபாலநார்தம் ।
    யவீயஸம் ப்ராதரமர்தவச்ச
    ப்ரபுர்முஹூர்தாத்விரராம ராம: ॥
    ityēvamuktvā vacanaṃ mahātmā
    piturnidēṡa pratipālanārtham ।
    yavīyasaṃ bhrātaramarthavacca
    prabhurmuhūrtādvirarāma rāmaḥ ॥
    Rāma, the Mahātma, the lord,
    stopped after he finished speaking
    those pregnant words to the young Bharata,
    regarding executing the command of their father.
    இத்யார்ஷே ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே
    வால்மீகீயே ஆதிகாவ்யே
    அயோத்யாகாண்டே
    பஞ்சோத்தரஸததமஸ்ஸர்க: ।
    ityārṣē ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē
    vālmīkīyē ādikāvyē
    ayōdhyākāṇḍē
    pañcōttaraṡatatamassargaḥ ।
    Thus concludes the one hundred and fifth Sarga
    in Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
    the first ever poem of humankind,
    composed by Vālmeeki.
