Ayodhya Kaanda - Sarga 70
In this Sarga, the messengers reach Bharata. They give him the gifts they brought with them. Bharata, in turn, honors them with many gifts. Bharata passes on the gifts he received from the messengers to his grandfather and uncle. His grandfather and uncle give him gifts in turn. But he is in no mood to enjoy them.
He immediately, along with Ṡatrughna, starts on his journey to Ayōdhyā.
2.70.1 பரதே ப்ருவதி ஸ்வப்நம் தூதாஸ்தே க்லாந்தவாஹநா: ।
ப்ரவிஸ்யாஸஹ்யபரிகம் ரம்யம் ராஜக்ருஹம் புரம் ॥
bharatē bruvati svapnaṃ dūtāstē klāntavāhanāḥ ।
praviṡyāsahyaparikhaṃ ramyaṃ rājagṛhaṃ puram ॥
While Bharata was relating his dream,
the messengers on their exhausted mounts entered
the impregnable and magnificent city of Rājagṛha.
2.70.2 ஸமாகம்ய து ராஜ்ஞா ச ராஜபுத்ரேண சார்சிதா:
ராஜ்ஞ: பாதௌ க்ருஹீத்வா து தமூசுர்பரதம் வச: ॥
samāgamya tu rājñā ca rājaputrēṇa cārcitāḥ
rājñaḥ pādau gṛhītvā tu tamūcurbharataṃ vacaḥ ॥
They waited on the King and his son.
Received by them with all courtesy,
they bowed at the feet of the King.
Then they said to Bharata:
2.70.3 புரோஹிதஸ்த்வாம் குஸலம் ப்ராஹ ஸர்வே ச மந்த்ரிண: ।
த்வரமாணஸ்ச நிர்யாஹி க்ருத்யமாத்யயிகம் த்வயா ॥
purōhitastvāṃ kuṡalaṃ prāha sarvē ca mantriṇaḥ ।
tvaramāṇaṡca niryāhi kṛtyamātyayikaṃ tvayā ॥
The Purōhita and all the ministers wish you well.
Please start in all haste,
business that brooks no delay awaits you.
2.70.4 இமாநி ச மஹார்ஹாணி வஸ்த்ராண்யாபரணாநி ச ।
ப்ரதிக்ருஹ்ய விஸாலாக்ஷ மாதுலஸ்ய ச தாபய ॥
imāni ca mahārhāṇi vastrāṇyābharaṇāni ca ।
pratigṛhya viṡālākṣa mātulasya ca dāpaya ॥
Take these valuable garments and ornaments,
O wide-eyed one, and give them to your uncle.
2.70.5 அத்ர விஸம்திகோட்யஸ்து ந்ருபதேர்மாதுலஸ்ய தே ।
தஸகோட்யஸ்து ஸம்பூர்ணாஸ்ததைவ ச ந்ருபாத்மஜ ॥
atra viṡaṃtikōṭyastu nṛpatērmātulasya tē ।
daṡakōṭyastu sampūrṇāstathaiva ca nṛpātmaja ॥
O prince! Of these, twenty crores
worth are intended for the King,
and ten crores worth for your uncle.
2.70.6 ப்ரதிக்ருஹ்ய து தத்ஸர்வம் ஸ்வநுரக்த ஸ்ஸுஹ்ருஜ்ஜநே ।
தூதாநுவாச பரத: காமைஸ்ஸம்ப்ரதிபூஜ்ய தாந் ॥
pratigṛhya tu tatsarvaṃ svanurakta ssuhṛjjanē ।
dūtānuvāca bharataḥ kāmaissampratipūjya tān ॥
Bharata, who loved his near and dear, accepted it all.
Bharata, likewise pleased the messengers
with all they could wish for, and asked them:
2.70.7 கச்சித்ஸுகுஸலீ ராஜா பிதா தஸரதோ மம ।
கச்சிச்சாரோகதா ராமே லக்ஷ்மணே ச மஹாத்மநி ॥
kaccitsukuṡalī rājā pitā daṡarathō mama ।
kacciccārōgatā rāmē lakṣmaṇē ca mahātmani ॥
Is the King Daṡaratha, my father, well?
Are Rāma and the Mahātma Lakshmaṇa in good health?
2.70.8 ஆர்யா ச தர்மநிரதா தர்மஜ்ஞா தர்மதர்ஸிநீ ।
அரோகா சாபி கௌஸல்யா மாதா ராமஸ்ய தீமத: ॥
āryā ca dharmaniratā dharmajñā dharmadarṡinī ।
arōgā cāpi kausalyā mātā rāmasya dhīmataḥ ॥
Is the mother of the sagacious Rama,
the noble Kousalyā, who knows Dharma,
sees Dharma and is devoted to Dharma,
in the enjoyment of good health?
2.70.9 கச்சித்ஸுமித்ரா தர்மஜ்ஞா ஜநநீ லக்ஷ்மணஸ்ய யா ।
ஸத்ருக்நஸ்ய ச வீரஸ்ய ஸாऽரோகா சாபி மத்யமா ॥
kaccitsumitrā dharmajñā jananī lakṣmaṇasya yā ।
ṡatrughnasya ca vīrasya sā'rōgā cāpi madhyamā ॥
Is Sumitrā, who is well-versed in Dharma,
the mother of Lakshmaṇa and the heroic Ṡatrughna,
the middle one (of the mothers), in good health?
2.70.10 ஆத்மகாமா ஸதா சண்டீ க்ரோதநா ப்ராஜ்ஞமாநிநீ ।
அரோகா சாபி மே மாதா கைகேயீ கிமுவாச ஹ ॥
ātmakāmā sadā caṇḍī krōdhanā prājñamāninī ।
arōgā cāpi mē mātā kaikēyī kimuvāca ha ॥
And is my self-absorbed mother Kaikēyee,
the difficult one who gets easily angered and
and full of conceit, well? What did she say? Vālmeeki waited this long, for the right opportunity, to complete the caricature of Kaikēyee, by describing her through the words of her own son.
2.70.11 ஏவமுக்தாஸ்து தே தூதா: பரதேந மஹாத்மநா ।
ஊசுஸ்ஸப்ரஸ்ரயம் வாக்யமிதம் தம் பரதம் ததா ॥
ēvamuktāstu tē dūtāḥ bharatēna mahātmanā ।
ūcussapraṡrayaṃ vākyamidaṃ taṃ bharataṃ tadā ॥
Thus asked by Mahātma Bharata,
the messengers responded to him deferentially:
2.70.12 குஸலாஸ்தே நரவ்யாக்ர! யேஷாம் குஸலமிச்சஸி ।
ஸ்ரீஸ்ச த்வாம் வ்ருணுதே பத்மா யுஜ்யதாம் சாபி தே ரத: ॥
kuṡalāstē naravyāghra! yēṣāṃ kuṡalamicchasi ।
ṡrīṡca tvāṃ vṛṇutē padmā yujyatāṃ cāpi tē rathaḥ ॥
All of them, O tiger among men, are well,
of whom you wish well.
The Goddess of Fortune with
lotus in her hand seeks you.
Let your chariot be yoked!
2.70.13 பரதஸ்சாபி தாந் தூதாநேவமுக்தோऽப்யபாஷத ।
ஆப்ருச்சேऽஹம் மஹாராஜம் தூதாஸ்ஸந்த்வரயந்தி மாம் ॥
bharataṡcāpi tān dūtānēvamuktō'bhyabhāṣata ।
āpṛccē'haṃ mahārājaṃ dūtāssantvarayanti mām ॥
Thus told, Bharata responded to them:
“I will let the King know that
the messengers are hastening me”.
2.70.14 ஏவமுக்த்வா து தாந் தூதாந்பரத: பார்திவாத்மஜ: ।
தூதை ஸ்ஸஞ்சோதிதோ வாக்யம் மாதாமஹமுவாச ஹ ॥
ēvamuktvā tu tān dūtānbharataḥ pārthivātmajaḥ ।
dūtai ssañcōditō vākyaṃ mātāmahamuvāca ha ॥
The prince Bharata, thus urged by those messengers,
said to his grandfather:
2.70.15 ராஜந்! பிதுர்கமிஷ்யாமி ஸகாஸம் தூதசோதித: ।
புநரப்யஹமேஷ்யாமி யதா மே த்வம் ஸ்மரிஷ்யஸி ॥
rājan! piturgamiṣyāmi sakāṡaṃ dūtacōditaḥ ।
punarapyahamēṣyāmi yadā mē tvaṃ smariṣyasi ॥
I must go to my father, O King,
being urged by the messengers to do so.
But I shall come again, whenever you think of me!
2.70.16 பரதேநைவமுக்தஸ்து ந்ருபோ மாதாமஹஸ்ததா ।
தமுவாச ஸுபம் வாக்யம் ஸிரஸ்யாக்ராய ராகவம் ॥
bharatēnaivamuktastu nṛpō mātāmahastadā ।
tamuvāca ṡubhaṃ vākyaṃ ṡirasyāghrāya rāghavam ॥
Thus told by Bharata, the King, his grandfather,
smelled his head and spoke these pleasing words
to that scion of the Raghu dynasty:
2.70.17 கச்ச தாதாநுஜாநே த்வாம் கைகேயீஸுப்ரஜாஸ்த்வயா ।
மாதரம் குஸலம் ப்ரூயா: பிதரம் ச பரந்தப ॥
gaccha tātānujānē tvāṃ kaikēyīsuprajāstvayā ।
mātaraṃ kuṡalaṃ brūyāḥ pitaraṃ ca parantapa ॥
My child, Kaikēyee has a good son in you.
Please go, O scorcher of foes, you have my permission!
Give my greetings and good wishes
to your mother as well as to your father!
2.70.18 புரோஹிதம் ச குஸலம் யே சாந்யே த்விஜஸத்தமா: ।
தௌ ச தாத மஹேஷ்வாஸௌ ப்ராதரௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ॥
purōhitaṃ ca kuṡalaṃ yē cānyē dvijasattamāḥ ।
tau ca tāta mahēṣvāsau bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau ॥
Convey greetings also to the Purōhita and
to all the other great Brāhmaṇas,
as well as to the duo of brothers,
Rāma and Lakshmaṇa, the mighty archers!
2.70.19 தஸ்மை ஹஸ்த்யுத்தமாம்ஸ்சித்ராந்கம்பலாநஜிநாநி ச ।
அபிஸத்க்ருத்ய கைகேயோ பரதாய தநம் ததௌ ॥
tasmai hastyuttamāṃṡcitrānkambalānajināni ca ।
abhisatkṛtya kaikēyō bharatāya dhanaṃ dadau ॥
Then the King of Kēkaya
honored him with well-bred elephants,
beautiful carpets and deer skins
and gave him plenty of money.
2.70.20 ருக்மநிஷ்கஸஹஸ்ரே த்வே ஷோடஸாஸ்வஸதாநி ச ।
ஸத்க்ருத்ய கைகயீபுத்ரம் கேகயோ தநமாதிஸத் ॥
rukmaniṣkasahasrē dvē ṣōḍaṡāṡvaṡatāni ca ।
satkṛtya kaikayīputraṃ kēkayō dhanamādiṡat ॥
The King of Kēkaya ordered
two thousand gold pieces and sixteen hundred horses
to be given to the son of Kaikēyee, with all honor.
2.70.21 ததாऽமாத்யாநபிப்ரேதாந்விஸ்வாஸ்யாம்ஸ்ச குணாந்விதாந் ।
ததாவஸ்வபதி: க்ஷிப்ரம் பரதாயாநுயாயிந: ॥
tathā'mātyānabhiprētānviṡvāsyāṃṡca guṇānvitān ।
dadāvaṡvapatiḥ kṣipraṃ bharatāyānuyāyinaḥ ॥
And Aṡwapati deputed forthwith his favorite officials,
who were men of virtue and trustworthy, to accompany Bharata.
2.70.22 ஐராவதாநைந்த்ரஸிராந்நாகாந்வை ப்ரியதர்ஸநாந் ।
கராந் ஸ்ரீக்ராந்ஸுஸம்யுக்தாந்மாதுலோऽஸ்மை தநம் ததௌ ॥
airāvatānaindraṡirānnāgānvai priyadarṡanān ।
kharān ṡrīghrānsusaṃyuktānmātulō'smai dhanaṃ dadau ॥
His uncle bestowed upon him as presents
elephants of pleasing appearance
from the lineage of Airāvata
born on Indraṡira mountains,
and fleet mules broken to the saddle.
2.70.23 அந்த:புரேऽதி ஸம்வ்ருத்தாந் வ்யாக்ரவீர்யபலாந்விதாந் ।
தம்ஷ்ட்ராऽऽயுதாந்மஹாகாயாந் ஸுநஸ்சோபாயநம் ததௌ ॥
antaḥpurē'ti saṃvṛddhān vyāghravīryabalānvitān ।
daṃṣṭrā''yudhānmahākāyān ṡunaṡcōpāyanaṃ dadau ॥
He also gifted him several huge canines
that bore the strength and power of tigers,
which had been bred and raised
with great care in the inner quarters.
2.70.24 ஸ தத்தம் கேகயேந்த்ரேண தநம் தந்நாப்யநந்தத ।
பரத: கைகயீபுத்ரோ கமநத்வரயா ததா ॥
sa dattaṃ kēkayēndrēṇa dhanaṃ tannābhyanandata ।
bharataḥ kaikayīputrō gamanatvarayā tadā ॥
However, Bharata, the son of Kaikēyee,
Could not enjoy any of those gifts
given by the King of Kēkaya,
as he was in all anxiety to leave.
2.70.25 பபூவ ஹ்யஸ்ய ஹ்ருதயே சிந்தா ஸுமஹதீ ததா ।
த்வரயா சாபி தூதாநாம் ஸ்வப்நஸ்யாபி ச தர்ஸநாத் ॥
babhūva hyasya hṛdayē cintā sumahatī tadā ।
tvarayā cāpi dūtānāṃ svapnasyāpi ca darṡanāt ॥
His mind, indeed, was preoccupied with great anxiety,
born out of the omens in his dreams and
the urgency bid on him by the messengers.
2.70.26 ஸ ஸ்வவேஸ்மாப்யதிக்ரம்ய நரநாகாஸ்வஸம்வ்ருதம் ।
ப்ரபேதே ஸுமஹச்ச்ரீமாந்ராஜமார்கமநுத்தமம் ॥
sa svavēṡmābhyatikramya naranāgāṡvasaṃvṛtam ।
prapēdē sumahacchrīmānrājamārgamanuttamam ॥
Then, after leaving his residence that was
full of people, elephants and horses,
that man of great fortunes came on
to the splendid and unparalleled royal highway.
2.70.27 அப்யதீத்ய ததோऽபஸ்யதந்த:புரமுதாரதீ: ।
ததஸ்தத்பரதஸ்ஸ்ரீமாநாவிவேஸாநிவாரித: ॥
abhyatītya tatō'paṡyadantaḥpuramudāradhīḥ ।
tatastadbharataṡṡrīmānāvivēṡānivāritaḥ ॥
The noble minded Bharata, after crossing it,
headed to the inner quarters and entered it unchecked.
2.70.28 ஸ மாதாமஹமாப்ருச்ச்ய மாதுலம் ச யுதாஜிதம் ।
ரதமாருஹ்ய பரதஸ்ஸத்ருக்நஸஹிதோ யயௌ ॥
sa mātāmahamāpṛcchya mātulaṃ ca yudhājitam ।
rathamāruhya bharataṡṡatrughnasahitō yayau ॥
After taking leave from his grandfather
as well as from his uncle Yudhājit,
he boarded the chariot and left,
along with Ṡatrughna.
2.70.29 ரதாந்மண்டல சக்ராம்ஸ்ச யோஜயித்வா பரஸ்ஸதம் ।
உஷ்ட்ர கோऽஸ்வபலைர்ப்ருத்யா பரதம் யாந்தமந்வயு: ॥
rathānmaṇḍala cakrāṃṡca yōjayitvā paraṡṡatam ।
uṣṭra gō'ṡvabalairbhṛtyā bharataṃ yāntamanvayuḥ ॥
And his staff, yoking camels, oxen, horses and mules,
to more than a hundred chariots that
were studded with a variety of gems
followed Bharata.
2.70.30 பலேந குப்தோ பரதோ மஹாத்மா
ஸஹார்யகஸ்யாऽத்மஸமைரமாத்யை: ।
ஆதாய ஸத்ருக்நமபேதஸத்ரு-
ர்க்ருஹாத்யயௌ ஸித்த இவேந்த்ரலோகாத் ॥
balēna guptō bharatō mahātmā
sahāryakasyā'tmasamairamātyaiḥ ।
ādāya ṡatrughnamapētaṡatru-
rgṛhādyayau siddha ivēndralōkāt ॥
Mahatma Bharata, whom no enemy dared to confront,
started from the house of his grandfather
like an accomplished person from the world of Indra,
taking Ṡatrughna along with him,
guarded by the army, and accompanied by
the ministers who were comparable to him!
இத்யார்ஷே ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே வால்மீகீயே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அயோத்யாகாண்டே ஸப்ததிதமஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīyē ādikāvyē
ayōdhyākāṇḍē saptatitamassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the seventieth Sarga
in Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Vālmeeki.

āpṛccē'haṃ mahārājaṃ dūtāssantvarayanti mām ॥
Thus told, Bharata responded to them:
“I will let the King know that
the messengers are hastening me”.
2.70.14 ஏவமுக்த்வா து தாந் தூதாந்பரத: பார்திவாத்மஜ: ।
தூதை ஸ்ஸஞ்சோதிதோ வாக்யம் மாதாமஹமுவாச ஹ ॥
ēvamuktvā tu tān dūtānbharataḥ pārthivātmajaḥ ।
dūtai ssañcōditō vākyaṃ mātāmahamuvāca ha ॥
The prince Bharata, thus urged by those messengers,
said to his grandfather:
2.70.15 ராஜந்! பிதுர்கமிஷ்யாமி ஸகாஸம் தூதசோதித: ।
புநரப்யஹமேஷ்யாமி யதா மே த்வம் ஸ்மரிஷ்யஸி ॥
rājan! piturgamiṣyāmi sakāṡaṃ dūtacōditaḥ ।
punarapyahamēṣyāmi yadā mē tvaṃ smariṣyasi ॥
I must go to my father, O King,
being urged by the messengers to do so.
But I shall come again, whenever you think of me!
2.70.16 பரதேநைவமுக்தஸ்து ந்ருபோ மாதாமஹஸ்ததா ।
தமுவாச ஸுபம் வாக்யம் ஸிரஸ்யாக்ராய ராகவம் ॥
bharatēnaivamuktastu nṛpō mātāmahastadā ।
tamuvāca ṡubhaṃ vākyaṃ ṡirasyāghrāya rāghavam ॥
Thus told by Bharata, the King, his grandfather,
smelled his head and spoke these pleasing words
to that scion of the Raghu dynasty:
2.70.17 கச்ச தாதாநுஜாநே த்வாம் கைகேயீஸுப்ரஜாஸ்த்வயா ।
மாதரம் குஸலம் ப்ரூயா: பிதரம் ச பரந்தப ॥
gaccha tātānujānē tvāṃ kaikēyīsuprajāstvayā ।
mātaraṃ kuṡalaṃ brūyāḥ pitaraṃ ca parantapa ॥
My child, Kaikēyee has a good son in you.
Please go, O scorcher of foes, you have my permission!
Give my greetings and good wishes
to your mother as well as to your father!
2.70.18 புரோஹிதம் ச குஸலம் யே சாந்யே த்விஜஸத்தமா: ।
தௌ ச தாத மஹேஷ்வாஸௌ ப்ராதரௌ ராமலக்ஷ்மணௌ ॥
purōhitaṃ ca kuṡalaṃ yē cānyē dvijasattamāḥ ।
tau ca tāta mahēṣvāsau bhrātarau rāmalakṣmaṇau ॥
Convey greetings also to the Purōhita and
to all the other great Brāhmaṇas,
as well as to the duo of brothers,
Rāma and Lakshmaṇa, the mighty archers!
2.70.19 தஸ்மை ஹஸ்த்யுத்தமாம்ஸ்சித்ராந்கம்பலாநஜிநாநி ச ।
அபிஸத்க்ருத்ய கைகேயோ பரதாய தநம் ததௌ ॥
tasmai hastyuttamāṃṡcitrānkambalānajināni ca ।
abhisatkṛtya kaikēyō bharatāya dhanaṃ dadau ॥
Then the King of Kēkaya
honored him with well-bred elephants,
beautiful carpets and deer skins
and gave him plenty of money.
2.70.20 ருக்மநிஷ்கஸஹஸ்ரே த்வே ஷோடஸாஸ்வஸதாநி ச ।
ஸத்க்ருத்ய கைகயீபுத்ரம் கேகயோ தநமாதிஸத் ॥
rukmaniṣkasahasrē dvē ṣōḍaṡāṡvaṡatāni ca ।
satkṛtya kaikayīputraṃ kēkayō dhanamādiṡat ॥
The King of Kēkaya ordered
two thousand gold pieces and sixteen hundred horses
to be given to the son of Kaikēyee, with all honor.
2.70.21 ததாऽமாத்யாநபிப்ரேதாந்விஸ்வாஸ்யாம்ஸ்ச குணாந்விதாந் ।
ததாவஸ்வபதி: க்ஷிப்ரம் பரதாயாநுயாயிந: ॥
tathā'mātyānabhiprētānviṡvāsyāṃṡca guṇānvitān ।
dadāvaṡvapatiḥ kṣipraṃ bharatāyānuyāyinaḥ ॥
And Aṡwapati deputed forthwith his favorite officials,
who were men of virtue and trustworthy, to accompany Bharata.
2.70.22 ஐராவதாநைந்த்ரஸிராந்நாகாந்வை ப்ரியதர்ஸநாந் ।
கராந் ஸ்ரீக்ராந்ஸுஸம்யுக்தாந்மாதுலோऽஸ்மை தநம் ததௌ ॥
airāvatānaindraṡirānnāgānvai priyadarṡanān ।
kharān ṡrīghrānsusaṃyuktānmātulō'smai dhanaṃ dadau ॥
His uncle bestowed upon him as presents
elephants of pleasing appearance
from the lineage of Airāvata
born on Indraṡira mountains,
and fleet mules broken to the saddle.
2.70.23 அந்த:புரேऽதி ஸம்வ்ருத்தாந் வ்யாக்ரவீர்யபலாந்விதாந் ।
தம்ஷ்ட்ராऽऽயுதாந்மஹாகாயாந் ஸுநஸ்சோபாயநம் ததௌ ॥
antaḥpurē'ti saṃvṛddhān vyāghravīryabalānvitān ।
daṃṣṭrā''yudhānmahākāyān ṡunaṡcōpāyanaṃ dadau ॥
He also gifted him several huge canines
that bore the strength and power of tigers,
which had been bred and raised
with great care in the inner quarters.
2.70.24 ஸ தத்தம் கேகயேந்த்ரேண தநம் தந்நாப்யநந்தத ।
பரத: கைகயீபுத்ரோ கமநத்வரயா ததா ॥
sa dattaṃ kēkayēndrēṇa dhanaṃ tannābhyanandata ।
bharataḥ kaikayīputrō gamanatvarayā tadā ॥
However, Bharata, the son of Kaikēyee,
Could not enjoy any of those gifts
given by the King of Kēkaya,
as he was in all anxiety to leave.
2.70.25 பபூவ ஹ்யஸ்ய ஹ்ருதயே சிந்தா ஸுமஹதீ ததா ।
த்வரயா சாபி தூதாநாம் ஸ்வப்நஸ்யாபி ச தர்ஸநாத் ॥
babhūva hyasya hṛdayē cintā sumahatī tadā ।
tvarayā cāpi dūtānāṃ svapnasyāpi ca darṡanāt ॥
His mind, indeed, was preoccupied with great anxiety,
born out of the omens in his dreams and
the urgency bid on him by the messengers.
2.70.26 ஸ ஸ்வவேஸ்மாப்யதிக்ரம்ய நரநாகாஸ்வஸம்வ்ருதம் ।
ப்ரபேதே ஸுமஹச்ச்ரீமாந்ராஜமார்கமநுத்தமம் ॥
sa svavēṡmābhyatikramya naranāgāṡvasaṃvṛtam ।
prapēdē sumahacchrīmānrājamārgamanuttamam ॥
Then, after leaving his residence that was
full of people, elephants and horses,
that man of great fortunes came on
to the splendid and unparalleled royal highway.
2.70.27 அப்யதீத்ய ததோऽபஸ்யதந்த:புரமுதாரதீ: ।
ததஸ்தத்பரதஸ்ஸ்ரீமாநாவிவேஸாநிவாரித: ॥
abhyatītya tatō'paṡyadantaḥpuramudāradhīḥ ।
tatastadbharataṡṡrīmānāvivēṡānivāritaḥ ॥
The noble minded Bharata, after crossing it,
headed to the inner quarters and entered it unchecked.
2.70.28 ஸ மாதாமஹமாப்ருச்ச்ய மாதுலம் ச யுதாஜிதம் ।
ரதமாருஹ்ய பரதஸ்ஸத்ருக்நஸஹிதோ யயௌ ॥
sa mātāmahamāpṛcchya mātulaṃ ca yudhājitam ।
rathamāruhya bharataṡṡatrughnasahitō yayau ॥
After taking leave from his grandfather
as well as from his uncle Yudhājit,
he boarded the chariot and left,
along with Ṡatrughna.
2.70.29 ரதாந்மண்டல சக்ராம்ஸ்ச யோஜயித்வா பரஸ்ஸதம் ।
உஷ்ட்ர கோऽஸ்வபலைர்ப்ருத்யா பரதம் யாந்தமந்வயு: ॥
rathānmaṇḍala cakrāṃṡca yōjayitvā paraṡṡatam ।
uṣṭra gō'ṡvabalairbhṛtyā bharataṃ yāntamanvayuḥ ॥
And his staff, yoking camels, oxen, horses and mules,
to more than a hundred chariots that
were studded with a variety of gems
followed Bharata.
2.70.30 பலேந குப்தோ பரதோ மஹாத்மா
ஸஹார்யகஸ்யாऽத்மஸமைரமாத்யை: ।
ஆதாய ஸத்ருக்நமபேதஸத்ரு-
ர்க்ருஹாத்யயௌ ஸித்த இவேந்த்ரலோகாத் ॥
balēna guptō bharatō mahātmā
sahāryakasyā'tmasamairamātyaiḥ ।
ādāya ṡatrughnamapētaṡatru-
rgṛhādyayau siddha ivēndralōkāt ॥
Mahatma Bharata, whom no enemy dared to confront,
started from the house of his grandfather
like an accomplished person from the world of Indra,
taking Ṡatrughna along with him,
guarded by the army, and accompanied by
the ministers who were comparable to him!
இத்யார்ஷே ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே வால்மீகீயே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அயோத்யாகாண்டே ஸப்ததிதமஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīyē ādikāvyē
ayōdhyākāṇḍē saptatitamassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the seventieth Sarga
in Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Vālmeeki.
