Ayodhya Kaanda - Sarga 16
In this Sarga, Sumantra tells Rāma that his father wants to see him.
Having no clue about the situation in Daṡaratha’s palace, he considers it as invitation and conformation of the coronation. He shares his excitement and happiness with Seetā in his being consecrated as the crown prince that day!
Men, women, kings, chiefs and warriors cheer him along the royal pathway as he proceeds to the king’s palace.
2.16.1-2 ததந்த:புரத்வாரம் ஸமதீத்ய ஜநாகுலம் ।
ப்ரவிவிக்தாம் தத: கக்ஷ்யாமாஸஸாத புராணவித் ॥
ப்ராஸகார்முகபிப்ரத்பிர்யுவபிர்ம்ருஷ்டகுண்டலை: ।
அப்ரமாதிபிரேகாக்ரை ஸ்ஸ்வநுரக்தைரதிஷ்டிதாம் ॥
tadantaḥpuradvāraṃ samatītya janākulam ।
praviviktāṃ tataḥ kakṣyāmāsasāda purāṇavit ॥
prāsakārmukabibhradbhiryuvabhirmṛṣṭakuṇḍalaiḥ ।
apramādibhirēkāgrai ssvanuraktairadhiṣṭhitām ॥
Passing through the crowded entrance to the inner apartments,
that chronicler reached the courtyard that was
free from the bustle of crowds,
where alert, keen and devoted young men
wearing bright ear-pendants
and armed with spears and bows were in attendance.
2.16.3 தத்ர காஷாயிணோ வ்ருத்தாந் வேத்ரபாணீந் ஸ்வலங்க்ருதாந் ।
ததர்ஸ விஷ்டிதாந் த்வாரி ஸ்த்ர்யத்யக்ஷாந்ஸுஸமாஹிதாந் ॥
tatra kāṣāyiṇō vṛddhān vētrapāṇīn svalaṅkṛtān ।
dadarṡa viṣṭhitān dvāri stryadhyakṣānsusamāhitān ॥
There, at the entrance to the inner rooms,
he saw elderly attentive chamberlains,
well dressed in ocher robes and with staffs in their hands.
2.16.4 தே ஸமீக்ஷ்ய ஸமாயாந்தம் ராமப்ரியசிகீர்ஷவ: ।
ஸஹஸோத்பதிதாஸ்ஸர்வே ஸ்வாஸநேப்யஸ்ஸஸம்ப்ரமா: ॥
tē samīkṣya samāyāntaṃ rāmapriyacikīrṣavaḥ ।
sahasōtpatitāssarvē svāsanēbhyassasambhramāḥ ॥
All of them, who were zealous to please Rāma,
rose from their seats
with alacrity and excitement upon seeing him.
2.16.5 தாநுவாச விநீதாத்மா ஸூதபுத்ர: ப்ரதக்ஷிண: ।
க்ஷிப்ரமாக்யாத ராமாய ஸுமம்ந்த்ரோ த்வாரி திஷ்டதி ॥
tānuvāca vinītātmā sūtaputraḥ pradakṣiṇaḥ ।
kṣipramākhyāta rāmāya sumaṃntrō dvāri tiṣṭhati ॥
The modest son of the charioteer said to them in very kind words,
“Please tell Rāma immediately that Sumantra is at the door!”
2.16.6 தே ராமமுபஸங்கம்ய பர்து: ப்ரியசிகீர்ஷவ: ।
ஸஹபார்யாய ராமாய க்ஷிப்ரமேவாபிசக்ஷிரே ॥
tē rāmamupasaṅgamya bhartuḥ priyacikīrṣavaḥ ।
sahabhāryāya rāmāya kṣipramēvābhicakṣirē ॥
Eager only please their master,
they quickly went to Rāma, who was with his wife
and told him accordingly.
2.16.7 ப்ரதிவேதிதமாஜ்ஞாய ஸூதமப்யந்தரம் பிது: ।
தத்ரைவாநாயயாமாஸ ராகவப்ரியகாம்யயா ॥
prativēditamājñāya sūtamabhyantaraṃ pituḥ ।
tatraivānāyayāmāsa rāghavapriyakāmyayā ॥
When the arrival of the charioteer,
who enjoyed his father’s confidence was announced,
Rāghava felt pleased and told them to bring him in.
2.16.8-10 தம் வைஸ்ரவணஸங்காஸமுபவிஷ்டம் ஸ்வலங்க்ருதம் ।
ததர்ஸ ஸூத: பர்ய்யங்கே ஸௌவர்ணே ஸோத்தரச்சதே ।
வராஹருதிராபேண ஸுசிநா ச ஸுகந்திநா ।
அநுலிப்தம் பரார்த்யேந சந்தநேந பரந்தபம் ।
ஸ்திதயா பார்ஸ்வதஸ்சாபி வாலவ்யஜநஹஸ்தயா ।
உபேதம் ஸீதயாபூயஸ்சித்ரயா ஸஸிநம் யதா ॥
taṃ vaiṡravaṇasaṅkāṡamupaviṣṭaṃ svalaṅkṛtam ।
dadarṡa sūtaḥ paryyaṅkē sauvarṇē sōttaracchadē ।
varāharudhirābhēṇa ṡucinā ca sugandhinā ।
anuliptaṃ parārdhyēna candanēna parantapam ।
sthitayā pārṡvataṡcāpi vālavyajanahastayā ।
upētaṃ sītayābhūyaṡcitrayā ṡaṡinaṃ yathā ॥
The charioteer saw that scorcher of foes
who resembled Vaiṡravaṇa.
He was beautifully adorned, with scarlet sandal paste,
that is shining like boar’s blood
of rich fragrance applied to his body.
Seated on a golden couch with a superfine coverlet
with Seetā by his side holding a fly-whisk in her hand,
he shone like the moon joined with the star Citra.
Vaiṡravaṇa is another name for Kubēra.
2.16.11 தம் தபந்தமிவாதித்யமுபபந்நம் ஸ்வதேஜஸா ।
வவந்தே வரதம் வந்தீ விநயஜ்ஞோ விநீதவத் ॥
taṃ tapantamivādityamupapannaṃ svatējasā ।
vavandē varadaṃ vandī vinayajñō vinītavat ॥
The eulogizer who knew all about modesty,
bowed to him, the granter of wishes,
who was endowed with radiance that
rivaling that of the scorching sun.
2.16.12 ப்ராஞ்ஜலிஸ்ஸுமுகம் த்ருஷ்ட்வா விஹாரஸயநாஸநே ।
ராஜபுத்ரமுவாசேதம் ஸுமந்த்ரோ ராஜஸத்க்ருத: ॥
prāñjalissumukhaṃ dṛṣṭvā vihāraṡayanāsanē ।
rājaputramuvācēdaṃ sumantrō rājasatkṛtaḥ ॥
With palms joined in reverence,
Sumantra, the esteemed servant of the King,
greeted the prince seated on the lounge couch, and said:
2.16.13 கௌஸல்யாஸுப்ரஜா ராம! பிதா த்வாம் த்ரஷ்டுமிச்சதி ।
மஹிஷ்யா ஸஹ கைகேய்யா கம்யதாம் தத்ர மா சிரம் ॥
kausalyāsuprajā rāma! pitā tvāṃ draṣṭumicchati ।
mahiṣyā saha kaikēyyā gamyatāṃ tatra mā ciram ॥
O Rāma, Kousalyā’s noble son!
Your father, with his queen Kaikēyee, wishes to see you.
Be pleased to go there without delay!
2.16.14 ஏவமுக்தஸ்து ஸம்ஹ்ருஷ்டோ நரஸிம்ஹோ மஹாத்யுதி: ।
ததஸ்ஸம்மாநயாமாஸ ஸீதாமிதமுவாச ஹ ॥
ēvamuktastu saṃhṛṣṭō narasiṃhō mahādyutiḥ ।
tatassammānayāmāsa sītāmidamuvāca ha ॥
Thus told, that lion among men of supreme radiance
felt happy, accorded due respect to him, and said to Seetā:
2.16.15 தேவி! தேவஸ்ச தேவீ ச ஸமாகம்ய மதந்தரே ।
மந்த்ரயேதே த்ருவம் கிஞ்சிதபிஷேசநஸம்ஹிதம் ॥
dēvi! dēvaṡca dēvī ca samāgamya madantarē ।
mantrayētē dhṛvaṃ kiñcidabhiṣēcanasaṃhitam ॥
My dear lady! The king and queen must have
met to discuss something related to my coronation!
2.16.16 லக்ஷயித்வா ஹ்யபிப்ராயம் ப்ரியகாமா ஸுதக்ஷிணா ।
ஸஞ்சோதயதி ராஜாநம் மதர்தமஸிதேக்ஷணா ॥
lakṣayitvā hyabhiprāyaṃ priyakāmā sudakṣiṇā ।
sañcōdayati rājānaṃ madarthamasitēkṣaṇā ॥
That capable and well wishing dark eyed lady,
must be prompting the king about my future,
keeping his intentions well in her mind!
2.16.17 ஸா ப்ரஹ்ருஷ்டா மஹாராஜம் ஹிதகாமாநுவர்திநீ ।
ஜநநீ சார்தகாமா மே கேகயாதிபதேஸ்ஸுதா ॥
sā prahṛṣṭā mahārājaṃ hitakāmānuvartinī ।
jananī cārthakāmā mē kēkayādhipatēssutā ॥
She enjoys keeping the best interests of the king in mind.
That daughter of the king of Kēkaya wishes the best for me
as if she is my own mother.
2.16.18 திஷ்ட்யா கலு மஹாராஜோ மஹிஷ்யா ப்ரியயா ஸஹ ।
ஸுமந்த்ரம் ப்ராஹிணோத்தூதமர்தகாமகரம் மம ॥
diṣṭyā khalu mahārājō mahiṣyā priyayā saha ।
sumantraṃ prāhiṇōddūtamarthakāmakaraṃ mama ॥
It is our fortune that the king and
his dear queen have sent Sumantra,
who is ever intent on furthering my wishes and wellbeing.
2.16.19 யாத்ருஸீ பரிஷத்தத்ர தாத்ருஸோ தூத ஆகத: ।
த்ருவமத்யைவ மாம் ராஜா யௌவராஜ்யேऽபிஷேக்ஷ்யதி ॥
yādṛṡī pariṣattatra tādṛṡō dūta āgataḥ ।
dhruvamadyaiva māṃ rājā yauvarājyē'bhiṣēkṣyati ॥
As is the conclave so is the envoy.
It is certain that the King will,
this very day, install me as crown prince!
2.16.20 ஹந்த! ஸீக்ரமிதோ கத்வா த்ரக்ஷ்யாமி ச மஹீபதிம் ।
ஸஹ த்வம் பரிவாரேண ஸுகமாஸ்வ ரமஸ்வ ச ॥
hanta! ṡīghramitō gatvā drakṣyāmi ca mahīpatim ।
saha tvaṃ parivārēṇa sukhamāsva ramasva ca ॥
Excellent indeed! I shall immediately go from here
to see the lord of the lands!
Meanwhile, may you have fun and good times
with your attendants here!
2.16.21 பதிஸம்மாநிதா ஸீதா பர்தாரமஸிதேக்ஷணா ।
ஆத்வாரமநுவவ்ராஜ மங்கலாந்யபிதத்யுஷீ ॥
patisammānitā sītā bhartāramasitēkṣaṇā ।
ādvāramanuvavrāja maṅgalānyabhidadhyuṣī ॥
The dark eyed Seetā, who enjoyed high esteem of her husband,
followed him up to the door, thinking of the good times ahead.
2.16.22 ராஜ்யம் த்விஜாதிபிர்ஜுஷ்டம் ராஜஸூயாபிஷேசநம் ।
கர்துமர்ஹதி தே ராஜா வாஸவஸ்யேவ லோகக்ருத் ॥
rājyaṃ dvijātibhirjuṣṭaṃ rājasūyābhiṣēcanam ।
kartumarhati tē rājā vāsavasyēva lōkakṛt ॥
As the creator of the worlds did on Vāsava,
may the King confer on you the sovereignty of this kingdom
that is well served by Brāhmaṇas, and would
qualify you for the Rājasooya Yāga in due course!
‘Creator of the worlds’ refers to Brahma.
2.16.23 தீக்ஷிதம் வ்ரதஸம்பந்நம் வராஜிநதரம் ஸுசிம் ।
குரங்கஸ்ருங்கபாணிம் ச பஸ்யந்தீ த்வாம் பஜாம்யஹம் ॥
dīkṣitaṃ vratasampannaṃ varājinadharaṃ ṡucim ।
kuraṅgaṡṛṅgapāṇiṃ ca paṡyantī tvāṃ bhajāmyaham ॥
I shall be delighted to wait upon you and see you
clad in excellent deer skin and holding the deer horn in hand,
having taken the vows and gone through
ceremonial purification and observances.
2.16.24 பூர்வாம் திஸம் வஜ்ரதரோ தக்ஷிணாம் பாது தே யம: ।
வருண: பஸ்சிமாமாஸாம் தநேஸஸ்தூத்தராம் திஸம் ॥
pūrvāṃ diṡaṃ vajradharō dakṣiṇāṃ pātu tē yamaḥ ।
varuṇaḥ paṡcimāmāṡāṃ dhanēṡastūttarāṃ diṡam ॥
May the wielder of the thunderbolt protect you in the East,
Yama in the South, Varuna in the West,
and the lord of wealth in the North.
Indra is the wielder of the thunderbolt.
Kubēra is the lord of wealth.
2.16.25-26 அத ஸீதாமநுஜ்ஞாப்ய க்ருதகௌதுகமங்கல: ।
நிஸ்சக்ராம ஸுமந்த்ரேண ஸஹ ராமோ நிவேஸநாத் ।
பர்வதாதிவ நிஷ்க்ரம்ய ஸிம்ஹோ கிரிகுஹாஸய: ।
லக்ஷ்மணம் த்வாரிஸோऽபஸ்யத்ப்ரஹ்வாஞ்ஜலிபுடம் ஸ்திதம் ॥
atha sītāmanujñāpya kṛtakautukamaṅgalaḥ ।
niṡcakrāma sumantrēṇa saha rāmō nivēṡanāt ।
parvatādiva niṣkramya siṃhō giriguhāṡayaḥ ।
lakṣmaṇaṃ dvārisō'paṡyatprahvāñjalipuṭaṃ sthitam ॥
Then Rāma, dressed appropriately for the auspicious occasion,
took leave of Seetā and departed
from his palace along with Sumantra,
like a cave-dwelling lion emerging from the mountain
and saw Lakshmaṇa standing at the exit
with palms joined in reverence.
2.16.27 அத மத்யமகக்ஷ்யாயாம் ஸமாகச்சத்ஸுஹ்ருஜ்ஜநை: ।
ஸ ஸர்வாநர்திநோ த்ருஷ்ட்வா ஸமேத்ய ப்ரதிநந்த்ய ச ॥
atha madhyamakakṣyāyāṃ samāgacchatsuhṛjjanaiḥ ।
sa sarvānarthinō dṛṣṭvā samētya pratinandya ca ॥
Then he proceeded to the middle courtyard,
where he met his friends.
He met with everyone who was
waiting to see him and greeted them.
2.16.28 தத: பாவகஸங்காஸமாருரோஹ ரதோத்தமம் ।
வையாக்ரம் புருஷவ்யாக்ரோ ராஜதம் ராஜநந்தந: ॥
tataḥ pāvakasaṅkāṡamārurōha rathōttamam ।
vaiyāghraṃ puruṣavyāghrō rājataṃ rājanandanaḥ ॥
Then, that tiger among men mounted the splendid chariot
That was covered with tiger-skin
and was shining like a glowing fire.
2.16.29-30 மேகநாதமஸம்பாதம் மணிஹேமவிபூஷிதம் ।
முஷ்ணந்தமிவ சக்ஷூம்ஷி ப்ரபயா ஸூர்யவர்சஸம் ।
கரேணுஸிஸுகல்பைஸ்ச யுக்தம் பரமவாஜிபி: ।
ஹரியுக்தம் ஸஹஸ்ராக்ஷோ ரதமிந்த்ர இவாஸுகம் ।
ப்ரயயௌ தூர்ணமாஸ்தாய ராகவோ ஜ்வலிதஸ்ஸ்ரியா ॥
mēghanādamasambādhaṃ maṇihēmavibhūṣitam ।
muṣṇantamiva cakṣūṃṣi prabhayā sūryavarcasam ।
karēṇuṡiṡukalpaiṡca yuktaṃ paramavājibhiḥ ।
hariyuktaṃ sahasrākṣō rathamindra ivāṡugam ।
prayayau tūrṇamāsthāya rāghavō jvalitaṡṡriyā ॥
Rāghava, then, like the god of thousand eyes
raced on that chariot which rumbled like a rain-cloud,
decorated with gems and gold,
astounding the eyes with its Mēru mountain-like dazzle,
drawn by magnificent horses that resembled young elephants.
2.16.31 ஸ பர்ஜந்ய இவாகாஸே ஸ்வநவாநபிநாதயந் ।
நிகேதாந்நிர்யயௌ ஸ்ரீமாந்மஹாப்ராதிவ சந்த்ரமா: ॥
sa parjanya ivākāṡē svanavānabhinādayan ।
nikētānniryayau ṡrīmānmahābhrādiva candramāḥ ॥
That chariot emerged from the palace,
like the moon out of a great cloud,
rumbling like the clouds in the sky.
2.16.32 சத்ரசாமரபாணிஸ்து லக்ஷ்மணோ ராகவாநுஜ: ।
ஜுகோப ப்ராதரம் ப்ராதா ரதமாஸ்தாய ப்ருஷ்டத: ॥
chatracāmarapāṇistu lakṣmaṇō rāghavānujaḥ ।
jugōpa bhrātaraṃ bhrātā rathamāsthāya pṛṣṭhataḥ ॥
Holding a fly-whisk and an umbrella in his hands,
Lakshmaṇa, the younger brother of Rāghava,
also mounted the chariot from the rear to guard his brother.
2.16.33 ததோ ஹலஹலாஸப்தஸ்துமுலஸ்ஸமஜாயத ।
தஸ்ய நிஷ்க்ரமமாணஸ்ய ஜநௌகஸ்ய ஸமந்தத: ॥
tatō halahalāṡabdastumulassamajāyata ।
tasya niṣkramamāṇasya janaughasya samantataḥ ॥
As he departed, loud cheers and huzzas reverberated
from the multitudes of crowds that gathered all around.
2.16.34 ததோ ஹயவரா முக்யா நாகாஸ்ச கிரிஸந்நிபா: ।
அநுஜக்முஸ்ததா ராமம் ஸதஸோऽத ஸஹஸ்ரஸ: ॥
tatō hayavarā mukhyā nāgāṡca girisannibhāḥ ।
anujagmustadā rāmaṃ ṡataṡō'tha sahasraṡaḥ ॥
Hundreds and thousands of horses of best breed
and elephants, majestic like mountains, followed Rāma.
2.16.35 அக்ரதஸ்சாஸ்ய ஸந்நத்தாஸ்சந்தநாகருபூஷிதா: ।
கட்கசாபதராஸ்ஸூரா ஜக்முராஸம்ஸவோ ஜநா: ॥
agrataṡcāsya sannaddhāṡcandanāgarubhūṣitāḥ ।
khaḍgacāpadharāṡṡūrā jagmurāṡaṃsavō janāḥ ॥
Heroic soldiers, with sandal and Agaru applied on their bodies,
equipped with armor and holding swords and bows,
went ahead of Rāma proclaiming his arrival.
2.16.36 ததோ வாதித்ரஸப்தாஸ்ச ஸ்துதிஸப்தாஸ்ச வந்திநாம் ।
ஸிம்ஹநாதாஸ்ச ஸூராணாம் ததா ஸுஸ்ருவிரே பதி ॥
tatō vāditraṡabdāṡca stutiṡabdāṡca vandinām ।
siṃhanādāṡca ṡūrāṇāṃ tadā ṡuṡruvirē pathi ॥
Sounds from musical instruments, roars of the warriors
and cries of the eulogists were heard all along the path.
2.16.37 ஹர்ம்யவாதாயநஸ்தாபிர்பூஷிதாபிஸ்ஸமந்தத: ।
கீர்யமாண ஸ்ஸுபுஷ்பௌகைர்யயௌ ஸ்த்ரீபிரரிந்தம: ॥
harmyavātāyanasthābhirbhūṣitābhissamantataḥ ।
kīryamāṇa ssupuṣpaughairyayau strībhirarindamaḥ ॥
Well-attired women from the balconies
of the palaces along the way
showered heaps of flowers
from every side on that subduer of enemies.
2.16.38 ராமம் ஸர்வாநவத்யாங்க்யோ ராமபிப்ரீஷயா தத: ।
வசோபிரக்ய்ரைர்ஹர்ம்யஸ்தா க்ஷிதிஸ்தாஸ்ச வவந்திரே ॥
rāmaṃ sarvānavadyāṅgyō rāmapiprīṣayā tataḥ ।
vacōbhiragyrairharmyasthā kṣitisthāṡca vavandirē ॥
Women of perfect curves standing
atop the houses and also on the ground,
praised Rāma in choice words to express their pleasure!
2.16.39 நூநம் நந்ததி தே மாதா கௌஸல்யாமாத்ருநந்தந! ।
பஸ்யந்தீ ஸித்தயாத்ரம் த்வாம் பித்ர்யம் ராஜ்யமவஸ்திதம் ॥
nūnaṃ nandati tē mātā kausalyāmātṛnandana! ।
paṡyantī siddhayātraṃ tvāṃ pitryaṃ rājyamavasthitam ॥
Your mother Kousalyā, O mother’s delight, shall now rejoice,
seeing you on your fulfilling procession,
to be established in the kingdom of your father!
2.16.40 ஸர்வஸீமந்திநீப்யஸ்ச ஸீதாம் ஸீமந்திநீ வராம் ।
அமந்யந்த ஹி தா நார்யோ ராமஸ்ய ஹ்ருதயப்ரியாம் ॥
sarvasīmantinībhyaṡca sītāṃ sīmantinī varām ।
amanyanta hi tā nāryō rāmasya hṛdayapriyām ॥
All those women, blessed with the best of conjugal glories,
thought of Seetā, the darling of Rāma’s heart,
as the most fortunate woman of all.
2.16.41 தயா ஸுசரிதம் தேவ்யா புரா நூநம் மஹத்தப: ।
ரோஹிணீவ ஸஸாங்கேந ராமஸம்யோகமாப யா ॥
tayā sucaritaṃ dēvyā purā nūnaṃ mahattapaḥ ।
rōhiṇīva ṡaṡāṅkēna rāmasaṃyōgamāpa yā ॥
That lady must have done
many good deeds and great Tapa in the past,
to be united with Rāma, as Rōhiṇi with the moon.
2.16.42 இதி ப்ராஸாதஸ்ருங்கேஷு ப்ரமதாபிர்நரோத்தம: ।
ஸுஸ்ராவ ராஜமார்கஸ்த: ப்ரியா வாச உதாஹ்ருதா: ॥
iti prāsādaṡṛṅgēṣu pramadābhirnarōttamaḥ ।
ṡuṡrāva rājamārgasthaḥ priyā vāca udāhṛtāḥ ॥
That best of men heard such heart-warming words
uttered by the women standing on the top of the mansions
while he proceeded through the royal pathway.
2.16.43 ஸ ராகவஸ்தத்ர கதாப்ரபஞ்சாந்
ஸுஸ்ராவ லோகஸ்ய ஸமாகதஸ்ய ।
ஆத்மாதிகாரா விவிதாஸ்ச வாச:
ப்ரஹ்ருஷ்டரூபஸ்ய புரோ ஜநஸ்ய ॥
sa rāghavastatra kathāprapañcān
ṡuṡrāva lōkasya samāgatasya ।
ātmādhikārā vividhāṡca vācaḥ
prahṛṣṭarūpasya purō janasya ॥
Rāghava also heard the many people assembled there,
delighted about his ascendance to power,
speaking of it in various ways!
2.16.44 ஏஷ ஸ்ரியம் கச்சதி ராகவோऽத்ய
ராஜப்ரஸாதாத்விபுலாம் கமிஷ்யந் ॥
ஏதே வயம் ஸர்வ ஸம்ருத்தகாமா
யேஷாமயம் நோ பவிதா ப்ரஸாஸ்தா ॥
ēṣa ṡriyaṃ gacchati rāghavō'dya
rājaprasādādvipulāṃ gamiṣyan ॥
ētē vayaṃ sarva samṛddhakāmā
yēṣāmayaṃ nō bhavitā praṡāstā ॥
By the grace of the king,
Rāghava will now be endowed with a great bounty.
Our wishes will be fulfilled having him as our governor.
2.16.45 லாபோ ஜநஸ்யாஸ்ய யதேஷ ஸர்வம்
ப்ரபத்ஸ்யதே ராஷ்ட்ரமிதம் சிராய ।
ந ஹ்யப்ரியம் கிஞ்சந ஜாது கஸ்சி-
த்பஸ்யேந்ந து:கம் மநுஜாதிபேऽஸ்மிந் ॥
lābhō janasyāsya yadēṣa sarvaṃ
prapatsyatē rāṣṭramidaṃ cirāya ।
na hyapriyaṃ kiñcana jātu kaṡci-
tpaṡyēnna duḥkhaṃ manujādhipē'smin ॥
It will be the great fortune of these people
to have him as the ruler of this kingdom for a long time.
Under his rule, no one would experience
any adversity or find a source of sadness.
2.16.46 ஸ கோஷவத்பிஸ்ச மதங்காஜைர்யயை:
புரஸ்ஸரை ஸ்ஸ்வஸ்திகஸூதமாகதை: ।
மஹீயமாந: ப்ரவரைஸ்ச வாதகை-
ரபிஷ்டுதோ வைஸ்ரவணோ யதா யயௌ ॥
sa ghōṣavadbhiṡca mataṅgājairyayaiḥ
purassarai ssvastikasūtamāgadhaiḥ ।
mahīyamānaḥ pravaraiṡca vādakai-
rabhiṣṭutō vaiṡravaṇō yathā yayau ॥
With the sounds of elephants, horses,
cheering eulogists and the best of musicians
moving ahead of him, he proceeded along like Vaiṡravaṇa.
2.16.47 கரேணுமாதம்ங்கரதாஸ்வஸம்குலம்
மஹாஜநௌக பரிபூர்ணசத்வரம் ।
ப்ரபூதரத்நம் பஹுபண்யஸஞ்சயம்
ததர்ஸ ராமோ ருசிரம் மஹாபதம் ॥
karēṇumātaṃṅgarathāṡvasaṃkulaṃ
mahājanaugha paripūrṇacatvaram ।
prabhūtaratnaṃ bahupaṇyasañcayaṃ
dadarṡa rāmō ruciraṃ mahāpatham ॥
Rāma proceeded along that great and clean highway,
filled with shops selling precious stones and other merchandise,
thronged by elephants, horses and chariots
and cross roads crowded with multitudes of people.
இத்யார்ஷே ஸ்ரீமத்ராமாயணே வால்மீகீயே ஆதிகாவ்யே
அயோத்யாகாண்டே ஷோடஸஸ்ஸர்க: ॥
ityārṣē ṡrīmadrāmāyaṇē vālmīkīyē ādikāvyē
ayōdhyākāṇḍē ṣōḍaṡassargaḥ ॥
Thus concludes the sixteenth Sarga
in Ayōdhyā Kāṇḍa of the glorious Rāmāyaṇa,
the first ever poem of humankind,
composed by Vālmeeki.
