  • Madhva-Srimat Vadiraja-24 February

    Dear All,

Greetings and Namaste. On 24-Feb-2012, the Aradhana of Srimad Vadiraja Yati of Sri Madhva lineage falls. Though He is from a different philosophical school, He was a great Yati and Tapasvi and belongs to one and all.

Though he has composed severy hymns on Lord Vishnu (and also Durga and Navagraha), I am attaching a short prayer which is a jewel containing the essential teachings of all Vedas. This is titled Hitopadesha. This is somewhat similar to Sri Adi Shankara's Shatpadi Stotram in terms of purport. Many of his works have been published (and some are not in print and some have been permanently lost, as I learn).

Some quick snippets on Srimad Vadiraja:
    1. He was an exponent of Dwaita philosophy and helped in reinvigorating it during the 15-16th century.
    2. Like Sri Nigamanta Desika, he was an ardent devotee of Lord Hayagriva and has composed many hymns on Lord Hayagriva (as well as other forms of Vishnu). He has also composed several Carnatic compositions in Kannada
    3. He is said to have had the darshan of both Sage Vyasa and Sri Madhwa during his visit to Badarikashrama. He is said to have got Trivikrama idol from Sri Madhva.
    4. Though from Vaishnavite philosophy, he was respectful of all different faiths and he was instrumental in building the famous Dharmasthala Temple (Sri Manjunatha Swamy). He also had visited Mookambika Temple. His Vrindavana has Brahma, Vishnu, Rudra, and Vayu shrines installed on 4 sides.
    5. Several miracles are attributed to him - including Lord Hayagriva personally came in the form of horse and eating the Neivedya, resurrection of many dead people, etc.
    6. He chose the time to enter into Brindavana at the age of 120 (much before Sri Raghavendra). His Vrindavana is in Sondhe near Sirsi in Karnataka.

May Srimad Vadiraja bless us all

    Thanks & Regards,
