Why Seevarisai for death & Subham all? Why is it?

when someone dies, immediately after doing the rituals the food should be served from sambhandhi house. And the person (Kartha) is offered sweet and some palaharams. Why is it? and for the 13th day Subhasweekaram Kartha's in-laws must give him seervarisai like modhiram, dresses for the entire family, and the things. Why in our custom it is a costly affair even if you live or die? sometimes it is a burden on middle class families
Is it really there in our custom?

Sri:
There is no specific rule that Sambhandhi should supply the food on the day of death!
But, there is no possibility of cooking at death house, so, the food should be brought from some where else,
if it is convenient to prepare the food at sambhandhi house, as they will not be affected by any theetu can do this
as a help in time.

Doing Seervarisai in all good and bad from a girls house is different, which is having lot of thathparyam.

பழைய காலங்களில் பெண்களுக்கு சொத்தில் உரிமையில்லை. ஆனால் பெண் காலம் முழுவதும் நன்றாக வாழும்படியாகப் பார்த்துக்கொள்ளவேண்டியது பெற்றோர் மற்றும் ஸஹோதரர்களின் கடமை.
அதனால்தான் கல்யாணம் செய்து போகும் பெண்ணுடன் பிறந்தவீட்டுச் சீர் என்று அவள் பங்குக்குச் சொத்தாகக் கொடுக்காமல் தங்க நகைகள், பாத்திரம், பண்டங்கள் என்று கொடுக்கவேண்டும்.

பின்னர் தம் சொத்திலிருந்து ஆண்டு முழுவதும் வரும் வருமானத்திலிருந்து சித்திரை புது வருடம், ஆடி, தீபாவளி, கார்த்திகை, பொங்கல் என்று ஒவ்வாரு பண்டிகைக்கும் தொடர்ந்து ஸஹோதரர்கள் தங்கள் ஸஹோதரிகளைச் சென்று பார்த்து, குசலம் விசாரித்து தேவையானதைச் செய்து கொடுத்துவிட்டு வரவேண்டும் என்பதைக் கடமையாக வைத்தார்கள்.

அதுபோலவே, பெண் குடும்பத்தில் வரும் நல்லது, கெட்டது எல்லாவற்றுக்கும் சீர் செய்யவேண்டும் என்பதையும் ஸம்ப்ரதாயமாகக் கொண்டார்கள்.

நல்லதுக்குச் சீர்செய்யலாம், கெட்டதுக்கு என்னத்துக்கு செய்யறது? என்று கேள்வி எழலாம்!
நம் ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்தைப் பொறுத்தவரை கெட்டது என்ற ஒன்றே கிடையாது.
இறைவன் எது கொடுத்தாலும் அது நல்லதற்கே.

"நீயும், நானும், இங்குள்ளவர்களும் இதற்கு முன் எப்போதும் இருந்ததில்லை என்றோ
இனி எப்போதும் இருக்கப்போவதில்லை என்றோ யாருமோ கிடையாது" என்கிறான் கண்ணன்
அர்சுனனிடம்.
பஞ்ச பூதத்தாலன உடம்பு மட்டும்தான் அழிகிறதே ஒழிய ஆத்மாவிற்கு என்றும் அழிவில்லை
என்று விளக்குகிறான்.
"உறங்குவதுபோலும் சாக்காடு உறங்கி
விழிப்பது போலும் பிறப்பு“ – குறள் 339
என்றார் வள்ளுவரும்.
இந்த தத்துவத்தை உணர்ந்தவர்கள் துக்கப்பட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கமாட்டார்கள்.
அதனால்தான் நம் ஸம்ப்ரதாயத்தில் 12 நாள் துக்கம், 13ம் நாள் "சுப ஸ்வீகாரம்" என்று சுபத்தை
அவசியம் ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளச் செய்தார்கள். (இது தனி விஷயம் இதுபற்றி தனியாக விவாதிப்போம்.)

ஒரு ஸஹோதரியின் நல்லது கெட்டது அனைத்திலும் முதல் பங்காற்றவேண்டியவன்
உடன் பிறந்தவனே என்பதை வலியுறுத்தவே எந்த கர்மாவானாலும் அதில் பிறந்தவீட்டு
சீருடன் செய்யவேண்டும் என்பது தாத்பர்யம்.
அங்கே வைக்கப்படும் பொருட்களின் விலை மதில்பில் பெருள் இல்லை,
நல்லது கெட்டது அனைத்திற்கும் பிறந்தவீட்டாரின் துணை என்றும் தனக்கு உண்டு
என்ற தளராத உறுதியான நம்பிக்கையை ஒரு பெண் அடையவேண்டும் என்பதே குறிக்கோள்.

அதனால்தான் எந்த விஷயமானாலும் ஆசீர்வாதம் பண்ணும்போது
அம்மான் (தயாரின் உடன் பிறந்தவன்) ஆசீர்வாதம்தான் முதலில் பண்ணப்படுகிறது!

இந்த சீர்செய்தல் என்கிற ஸம்ப்ரதாயமே "கல்யாணம் செய்து கொடுத்துவிட்டோம் இனி அவள்பாடு கணவன் பாடு" என்று பெண்ணை கழற்றி விட்டுவிடாமல் கடைசீவரை அவளுடன் பந்த, பாசங்களை தொடரச் செய்வதற்காக ஏற்படுத்தப்பட்ட இந்த ஏற்பாடு எவ்வளவு பொருள் பொதிந்தது?!

குறிப்பு:- சீர் என்பது தங்கள் சக்திக்குத் தகுந்தாற்போல் தகப்பனாரோ, ஸஹோதரர்களோ தாமாக
மனமுவந்து செய்வது. இதுதான் செய்யவேண்டும், இவைஇவை இவ்வளவு இவ்வளவு இருக்கவேண்டும்
என்று கேட்பதில் நியாயமில்லை.

My nephew who lost his 3 year old son in blood cancer, after the cremation he was offered food with payasam and the stuff. He got wild and want explanation of these things.

Sorry for the delayed response due to not in station.
No need to do such things for children and less age (dhukka) death.
Most of the elders will not eat the food offered on less age peoples death normally.

While the reply is very good, I have a doubt as to the answer that sambanthis willnot be having asoucham. It is quite possible that they may be 3 days or 11/2 days asoucham. Generally is prepared from Mutt/Temple/or no-theetu home and served.
