Re: அஷ்டகா அனுஷ்டகா என்றால் என்ன
The sastras mentioned that a person should perform 96 srathas in a year. They include 12 new moon days(Amavasai) ; 12 first day of the month (Madha pirappu); Mahalayam-16; Yuhadhi -4;Manvathi-14; Vaidruthi-13; Vyathe patham 13; Ashtaka-12.
When suitable sastrigals/purohiths are not available to perform the sratha it is said that the preparations should be made , and it should be given to a cow; or put in water. or in fire.
Some nithya and nymithik sradhas are said to bring some benefit as well. For that reason they should not be considered Kya. The eighth day of the fortnigt following the newmoon in the month of thai ( Mddle of january to middle of February) is called AShtaka and it is necessary to perform sradham on that day.
Our sastras says if you do 40 samskarangal it will purify your atmand it will merge with Paramatma.BAAGA YAGYANGA: 7- Astaka; Sthali bagam; Parvanam; AAgrahaayani; Shraavani; chaithri and aashwauiji. These are simple and we can do.
HAVIR YAGYANGAL: 7- Agni aadhaanam Agnihothram; Darsa pooornamasam; Aagrayanam; Chaathurmaasyam; Niruda pasu bandham; sowthraamani.
SOMA SAMSTHAIGAL: Agnishtomam; Adhyagishtomam; ukthyam; shodasa vaajapeyam;Athi raathram; Abdhoryaamam;
Jadha karma; naamakarnam; Anna praasnam; sowlam; Upanayanam; Praajaapathya,sowmya, aagneya, vaiswadeva Vratangal; Snanam; marriage; Garbha dhaanam; pumsavana seemantham; Vaiswadevam= deva, pithru, bootha, manushya, brahma yagyam these are 19, total 40 samskaarams.
Ashtaka: In the month of Maasi you have to do Ashtakaadi sratham. the previous day night do oupaasanam and prepare one variety of "adai" and do one homam with this adai to ashtakaa devadai and do swastakrith homam. and keep the remaning adai safely. on the astaka day( the next day) you have to give the remaining adai to the sastrigals.
You have to do Ashtaka sratham . for this 2 viswedevars, pithru vargam 3, Mathru vargam 3, total 8 sastrigals do aavaahanam on them like paarvana sratham with some variations. do oupaasanam at night and on the next day navami thithi do aavaahanam on 5 sastrigals ( viswedevar2;pithu vargam1; matha maha vargham 1; maha vishnu 1) do paarvana sratham on navami also with some alterations.
Navami sratham is called anvashtakai. Instead of this curd(dadhi anjali) homam is being done. Taking curd on both palms and do homam one for astakai one for swastakrith. Now a days only tharpanam is being done on ashtakai days.
This year 5-1-13 and on 6-1-13 ashtaka and anvastaka punyakaala sratham thila tharpana roopaena adhya krishyae . you may do like this. and on 3-2-13 and on 4-2- 13 you may do like this. and on 5-3-13 you may do ashtakaa and anvashtakaa tharpanam.
