  • Recipes for Chaaturmaasya Vrata





    The dishes that are traditionally offered to God during chaaturmaasya.
    As per the name there are four Vratas to be followed in Chaaturmaasya, viz.,
    1. Shaaka Haara Vrata (leafy veges)
    2. Dadhi Vrata (yogurt)
    3. Ksheera Vrata (milk)
    4. DvidaLa vrata (lentils that come away in two halves - split urad, toor, masoor, etc)
    5. Shaaka Haara

    In this vrata, which begins from Aashada Shudda Dwadashi to Sharavana Shuddha Dashami, one should not offer Vegetables, Plaintain, Coconut , fruits as Neivedya or Hastodaka to God and also he should not eat.
    The following things are NOT used in this month:
    • Tamarind
    • Chana dal
    • Vegetables
    • Coconut
    • Fruits (Mangoes are allowed)
    • red chillies (substitute with Black pepper)
    • Turmeric
    • Asafoetida(Hing)
    • Mustards(add cumins in place of mustards)
    • No dry fruits(like cardamoms, raisins, cashews, almonds., )

    Recipes for shaaka haara vrata:
    • Majjige PaLidya
    • Vrata Saaru (Rasam)
    • Moong beans VusuLi/Moong beans Curry
    • Kosambari
    • Vada
    • Cracked Wheat Paayasa(godi nuchchu Paayasa)
    • Rava Kesari
    • Pepper Rice
    • One can also eat the dishes like Idli, dosa, chapati, poori and so on., which does not contain the above mentioned things

    Dadhi vrata
    In this vrata, which begins from Shraavana Shudda dasahmi to bhadrapada Shuddha Dashami, and also he should not eat.

    The following things are NOT used in this month:
    • Yogurt
    • Ksheera Vrata
