    CHENNAI: A Class 10 boy who was travelling on the footboard of an MTC bus slipped and died near Palavakkam on Friday morning.

    Police said the boy, T Kannan (14) of Neelangarai, boarded a Kovalam-Boardway bus to reach the corporation school at Thiruvanmiyur where he was studying. When the bus reached Palavakkam at 8.45am, the boy lost his grip, fell from the bus and came under the rear wheels of the vehicle.

    The other passengers rushed him to a nearby private hospital where he was declared brought dead.

    His father, Thangaraj, is a construction worker.

    The body has been sent to the Government Royapettah Hospital for postmortem. The Adyar traffic investigation police took bus driver Harikrishnan into custody.
